Dear Abby...
The List Is Endless!
by Abigail Van Buren
DEAR ABBY: I was amused to read the letter from "DISAPPOINTED" and was surprised with your reply. So what if "Mamma's Boy" does want her to mash his potatoes and butter his toast for him? How many men DO keep their dresser drawers neat and hang up their clothes? This young lady is misinformed as to her wifely duties. It is the DUTY of a wife to fix her husband's meals (yes, mash his potatoes and butter his toast), to pick up after him and keep his dresser drawers neat. What else does she have to do all day?
HAPPILY MARRIED (FOR 8 YEARS)
DEAR MARRIED: What else does she have to do all day? Lady, I am afraid it is YOU who are misinformed. There is washing, ironing, polishing, dishwashing, waxing, scrubbing, marketing, cooking, baking and mending, and I am sure there are women who could add to this list without much effort.
DEAR ABBY: (Reader asked if a cat eats all the mouse:) Yes a cat eats ALL the mouse, beginning at the nose. Very tidy about it, too. Doesn't leave a trace. If the snack is a bird, there'll be a few feathers around, but if it's a mouse, only the cat knows what was for lunch.
L. B.
DEAR ABBY: In answer to your query, "Does a cat eat all the mouse?" I can state with some authority that the cat eats all the mouse, but he regurgitates the indigestible hair in the form of a little ball about the size of a nickel. He will also bring up any other indigestible matter, or that which repels him such as the gall bladder. If the cat is not very hungry, he will let the tail hang out of his mouth. Satisfied? Well, back to breakfast.
PHIL
DEAR ABBY: I have conferred with several experts and have been assured that cats DO eat all the mouse, including the tail. Cats will NOT eat a rat's tail, however, as a rat's tail is bitter.
SAN JOSE
DEAR ABBY: My son, age 14, was invited by a girl classmate to be her escort at a school dance. He accepted. A meeting of the School Council was held and my son's name was brought up for President. This girl stood up at the meeting and said to withdraw his name as he was too dumb. My son said, "Just for that—she can take herself to the dance." As this is the daughter of one of my neighbors and he has accepted the date, I would like to have him take her anyway. He still refuses. Answer soon.
TROUBLED MOTHER
DEAR MOTHER: If the girl actually SAID what you said she said, I don't blame your son for refusing to take her. Any girl who is that

DEAR ABBY: I was taught that a boy doesn't have any respect for a girl who lets him kiss her the first time he tries. This boy tried to kiss me and I told him NO, so he didn't try again. I like him a lot and want to know how I can get him to try again.
DEAR MISSING: If he's normal and you're attractive, time is your best ally. Be available but not eager.

$284,302 in Franchise Payments Made by Gas Co. to County, Cities
Franchise payments for 1958 have been made by Southern Counties Gas Co., to Orange County and 21 of its communities, to the tune of $284,302. Justine M. Kennedy, division manager for the utility, reported today.
The payments — for use of streets and highways — were up almost $60,000 from similar amounts paid by the gas company for 1957.
In addition to the county, which was paid $60,761, franchise payments to communities, Kennedy said, were as follows:
Anaheim, $39,381; Brea, $3,725; Buena Park, $14,470; Costa Mesa, $12,319; Cypress, $881; Dairyland, $818; Fountain Valley, $33; Fullerton, $23,340; Garden Grove, $27,229; Huntington Beach, $7,294; La guna Beach, $5,953; La Habra, $8,-725; Newport Beach, $12,519; Orange, $11,168;
Placentia, $2,045; San Clemente, $6,309; Santa Ana, $32,384; Seal Beach, $2,332; Stanton, $3,091; Tustin, $1,328; Westminster, $8,088.
When combined with real and property taxes — first installment of which the utility paid in December — Southern Counties will be responsible for more than $1,230.000 this year to Orange County communities it serves, and in which it has property located.
Over-all, the gas company paid $1,069,353 for franchises to eight counties and 86 incorporated communities. When combined with all real and property taxes throughout its system, the gas company will make payments of approximately $9 for each of the 670,592 customers it served at year-end 1958, Kennedy said.

Announce Way To Help
Drain All 8 Sinus Cavities
Without Discomfort
New decongestant tablet for sinus congestion sufferers acts both to drain clogged sinus cavities and relieve distressing head pain
New York, N.Y. (Special) Announcement has been made of a new tablet development which has the remarkable ability to help drain clogged sinus cavities and thus relieve congestion and pressure. The headaches, pressure pains, stuffed-up hend, nasal drip, clogged breathing—all the unrelenting symptoms the sinus sufferer knows so well—are attacked directly by improving drainage of the sinus areas.
Most remarkable of all is the fact that this is accomplished with extraordinary speed and without discomfort of any kind. This new tablet does its remarkable work internally, through the blood stream. It deposits into every drop of blood plasma a new medication which is carried to the sinus area, where it shrinks the swollen doors to the sinus cavities and helps drain away the pain-causing pressure and congestion.
The shrinking substance in this new tablet has been so successful topically in promoting drainage of the sinus cavities that it is now prescribed more widely by doctors than any material for this purpose. This new medication is now available at drug counters without the need for a prescription under the name, Dristan® Decongestant Tablets. Dristan Tablets cost only 98¢ for a bottle of 24 tablets. Buy and use Dristan Tablets with the absolute guarantee that they will drain away pain-causing pressure and congestion of the sinus cavities, relieve the pain and distress, or purchase price will be refunded.

Atomic Kitchens Soon To Make Appearance
SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) — The Pacific Gas and Electric Company suggested hopefully today that some California kitchens may be using atomic power for cooking within five or six years.
Company President Norman R. Sutherland said "The provincial East may think us a bit looney, but we're foolish enough to believe we can do it."
Sutherland said power company was negotiating for land on which to construct a 200,000 kilowatt plant to be run by nuclear power, costing consumers about the same as electricity generated by water power.
Sutherland said the high cost of fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal on the West Coast has stimulated atomic development. He pointed out that PG&E already has a 5,000-kilowatt pilot plant at Vallecitos.
Three out of four American men shine their own shoes, according to a shoe polish firm, which said one of the reasons for this is the shortage of shoesshine boys.
