Bay Area PCL Turnstiles Swinging Slowly
By HAL WOOD
SAN FRANCISCO (UP) — The San Francisco Bay Area may be the Oakland Acorns, may be out of business when this campaign is completed.
Look at the record; open for a major league franchise in 1956 — with no strings attached.
Happy Is The Day When Backache Goes Away
Narging backache, headache, or miscular aches and pain may come on with over-exertion, emotional upsets or day to day stress and strain. And folks who eat and drink unwisely sometimes suffer mild bladder irritation ... with that restless, uncomfortable feeling.
If you are miserable and worn out because of these discomforts, Doan's Pills often help by their pain relieving action, by their soothing effect to ease bladder irritation, and by their mild diuretic action through the kidneys — tending to increase the output of the 15 miles of kidney tubes.
So if nagging backache makes you feel dragged-out, miserable, with restless, sleepless nights, don't wait. try Doan's Pills, get the same happy relief millions have enjoyed for over 60 years. Ask for new, large, economy size and save money. Get Doan's Pills today!
Pacific Coast League baseball is drawing so poorly in the area this season that it is possible that both the San Francisco Seals and 1. The San Francisco club owners are shopping around for a purchaser and unless a new "angel" comes up it is very doubtful that the "Little Corporation," headed by Damon Miller, will be able to continue the operation. The Seals will have no stadium to play in after 1958, which discourages potential buyers.
2. The Oakland Acorns have not renewed the lease on their ball park and all indications are that the club will be switched to Vancouver, B.C., for 1956.
Queried about the possibility of dropping the Bay Area franchises from the Pacific Coast League, executive secretary Jerry Donovan said today:
"I say give the San Francisco area to the majors if the fans here don't want to support Pacific Coast League baseball. I'm a native San Francisco and always have been a strong booster of baseball here. But it appears they just don't want to support PCL baseball in this section."
Donovan blames lack of port there somewhat to televised shows, but points out that we is not good baseball wear. However, this doesn't cover the fact that in 1946 the S drew three-quarters of a million fans with a pennant winning with the same type weather.
Donovan thinks that the would draw better in this area the ball parks were moved to urbs where the weather is bad.
But baseball attendance is in all leagues throughout the West. The California League recieved its Channel Cities (Barbara and Ventura) frank fold and shift to Reno, Nev., linas of the same league announced yesterday that it doubled its daily attendance during the next week or fold.
"We need major league back in the California League to play on a sound basis," said Donovan who is president of that league.
"There is going to be a merger in the East soon to discuss problems of the minors. If they can come up with some vation."
Same Trouble Elsewhere
The Northwest League, opening as a seven-team circuit Washington and Oregon, also having its problems. Only the neer League in Utah, Idaho Montana, appears to be on a id footing in the West.
Getting back to the PCL, Francisco and Oakland are the only clubs in trouble. Simento is hurting financially; Hollywood won't have a ball after another year.
San Diego, which won the nant last year and is a close tender this season, is doing at the gate. But the effort build
