'Not in Real Estate Biz' - NBC Passes Deal of Year!
HOLLYWOOD—It is reported that NBC is feeling mighty sorry these days, especially after the bang-up opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., for they were first approached to help with the initial financing of the multi-million project.
It is also reported that their answer, in giving a definite thumbs-down rejection was that: "We're not in the real estate business." Bet they wish they were now, for this Disneyland project which was financed by monies from United-Paramount-American Broadcasting Company, and several banks, looks like a sure winner.
With crowds ranging from 30,000 to 75,000 per day since the opening, and with even the nominal prices for admission and varied rides the success story of this project will closely resemble that of one of the more fabulous spots in Las Vegas (one in particular that I'm thinking of that made 10 percent of their original investment in the first 72 hours of operation, Original cost, $5,500,000!)
Now watch the stock of United-Paramount-American Broadcasting Company and through the tiny hole in the fence, two mighty sorry eyes are peeking through. Those of a very sorry NBC!

And while on the network kick, Tom Harmon sports director for the CBS-Pacific network, tells me that at last CBS is getting back into sports swing. After many years (six to be exact) it finally looks like Tom will do his first football sportscast for CBS even though he's been working for them all these many years.
Tom says, "I am very happy that CBS is getting back into sports, and know they will do a great coverage of the Pacific Coast games as well as the Big Ten regional games." He goes on with, in his note to me, "It was wonderful having that thing with the lemon peel in it with you the other day. Let's do it again soon." From one Tom to another—I'm with you, boy!
Tipping off a planned return to the night club circuit, Carmen Miranda has engaged Jackie Barnett to prepare special material for a new act, to bow in sometime in October. Barnett, Jimmy Durante's special material man for 14 years also writes for Sophie Tucker, Helen Traubel and other top bistro performers. At present, Barnett and Durante are busily engaged in filming seven shows in the NBC-TV series for fall showing.

DANSON ON AIR ... One of Milton Berle's color shows from Burbank for NBC-TV next fall will be a satire written by Gore Vidal in which Berle will be co-starred with Tallulah Bankhead. This should be a dilly! ... There's talk that NBC's prez. Pat Weaver, is being considered very seriously as Time mag's "Man of the Year" because of his TV genius. And his less serious brother "Doodles" recently announced that his gagging days are over forever. I don't believe it!
After all of the constructive and most pointed criticism I've recently bombarded Chris well with, all he can come back with is "This Tom Danson is insulting the intelligence of my TV audience." Looks like I'm winning!
