SPORTS BOB ZIMMER, Editor Fullerton Nips Anaheim To Annex Division Title Fullerton's Junior Legion squad edged Anaheim, 5-3 in a sudden-death playoff game to annex the Northern Division title at Fullerton yesterday. The new Northern champions will play Huntington Beach in a best two-of-three series for the Orange County title, beginning with a single game at Fullerton tomorrow and a doubleheader, if necessary, at Huntington Beach Sunday. Carl Pennington twirled a four-hitter for the victorious Fullerton nine. Paul Grover hurled a steady, seven-hitter for Anaheim, but two infield errors in the first inning ruptured his cause. The Fullerton nine registered three runs in that frame, only one of them on singles by Larry Fishel and Joel Newkirk and the two errors. Al Storey played a singular role in a doubleheader that ended the inning. He made a diving catch of a bunt for the second out, then threw wildly to third, permitting a run to score. He finally ended up a home plate to take a throw from the shortstop and retire another Fullerton runner as he came charging home. The winners built up a 5-0 lead with two runs on three hits in the third before Anaheim dented the Elks Squeeze by Teamsters, 1-0; P & L Wins, 8-1 Anaheim's Elks and P & L Transmission stretched their lead over the rest of the City A League by defeating the Teamsters and the Magnolia Cobras last night. The Elks shaded the Teamsters, 1-0, on a fifth-inning home run by Swede Rayburn to duplicate the score of their first-14 battle. Ralph Sutliff pitched a two-hitter for the Elks while Johnny Fouch fired a three-hitter for the losers. The Transmissions dealt the Cobras their worst setback of the season, 8-1. Art Altheide pitched a three-hitter and fanned nine batters for the victors. In the other game last night, Hall's Drive In nipped Ballinman's TVers, 2-1, as Felix Orosco fired a two-hitter. Bill Hull smacked a home run and two singles for Hall's. By DON THACKREY SAN FRANCISCO (UP) — Donoso, the Cuban fireball of the Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League, may not always "fustest" but during the week he has certainly been "mostest." Donoso split a doublehit with Seattle last night, with the second game 6-4 in 10 innings in relief, after he had gone distance to lose the opener. This gave the man from Caribbean three wins and a win in the past week since he won Friday and again Sunday in the San Francisco Seals. Winning from the Seals is to be a habit for both Donoso and San Diego Padres. Last year the Pads dropped the Seals 4-4 their third straight over San Diego and a win streak of six in the men of Lefty O'Doul. Sacramento dropped to sixth hind the Seattle Rainiers they lost a 8-3 game to Los Angeles and the Oakland Oaks solidly to third place with a triumph over Portland. Donoso gave up only seven in the opener for the night but bleacher, but made the misfit of giving two of them to cat Ray Orteig. Orteig pickled a pitch over fence in the fourth with two and then doubled home two innings in the fifth to account for all Seattle runs. His performance gave the Bob Hall, ex-Hollywood player, who only made it through in the second game. Don pitched from the sixth to the when the Stars scored the Al Storey played a singular role in a doubleheader that ended the inning. He made a diving catch of a bunt for the second out, then threw wildly to third, permitting a run to score. He finally ended up a home plate to take a throw from the shortstop and retire another Fullerton runner as he came charging home. The winners built up a 5-0 lead with two runs on three hits in the third before Anaheim dented the scoring column. Joe Avitia scored in the fourth on a walk, stolen base, error and single by Frank Doretti. Two more Anaheim tallies crossed home plate in the seventh on a pair of walks, a pair of sacrifices and one error. Pennington retired Anaheim in order in the eighth and got through the ninth unscatched although he walked two batters. ANAHEIM AB R H French, 2b 4 0 Storey, 2b 4 0 Avita, ss 2 1 Doretti, c 2 0 R.
