Musical Arts Club
To Meet Third Monday
Opening with the winter season in October of this year, the members of the Musical Arts club of Orange County will meet each third Monday of the month instead of the third Friday evening which has been the policy of the organization for many years.
Meeting in the Carol Haughton studios for the June meeting, Mrs. Willard Bassett, presiding, the group voted the change. At the business session two new members, Mrs. Frances Conover and Mrs. John McCoy were presented.
Program featured Janet Rosenberg, pianist, recently from Africa, and Miss Linda Williams, violinist, winner of a recent contest which gave her the honor of playing with the Long Beach Symphony.
Long Beach College Opens Art Conference Saturday, July 3
In an attempt to stimulate a greater interest in art education and teacher training, Long Beach
Sisterhood of Beth Sholom and Young Matrons Seat Officers
Sisterhood of Temple Beth Sholom, and Young Matrons, held combined donor installation luncheon at the Club Gardens banquero on Wednesday. Installing officer was Mrs. G. Zofness, this vice-president of Western Federation of Temple sisterhoods.
Mrs. Helen Mixes was made a honorary life member, a tribute to outstanding work in the organization. Donor chairman was Mr. M. Pischel, assisted by Mrs. Rassin and Mrs. M. Rice.
Officers of Sisterhood installment were: Mrs. J. Wilkes, president; Mrs. R. Tucker, Mrs. P. Rosenbergh; Mrs. B. Grant, vice presidents; Ms. S. Rice, Mrs. M. Reich, Mrs. Klein, secretaries; Mrs. C. (Canetti) treasurer; Mrs. M. Rice, parliamentarian; Mrs. S. Glikohn, auditor; Mrs. C. Beigel, Mrs. M. Neimar; Mrs. H. Stein, and Mrs. M. Riitrustees; Mrs. H. Gerber, counselor.
Installed for Young Matrons were Mrs. B. Grant, president; Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. M. Reichler, vice president; Mrs. M. Bloom, Mrs. Glasser, secretaries; Mrs. H. Weiberg, treasurer; Mrs. D. Wenne-liaison officer; and Mrs. S. Goldberg, auditor.

Long Beach College Opens Art Conference Saturday, July 3
In an attempt to stimulate a greater interest in art education and teacher training, Long Beach State college is sponsoring a conference for teachers and art students in the Southern California area on Saturday, July 3. Last year over 200 art teachers attended the conference of a similar nature.
The program will consist of two phases. In the morning, Charles and Ray Eames will present material relative to the topic, "The Teacher: The Student: The Problem." It will be followed by a panel discussion lead by Dr. George Cerveny, chairman of the division of arts and languages at the college. The members of the panel will be both students and teachers.
Those participating will be: Teachers, Daryl Ahlgren, Miss Phyllis Barker, John Ed Herbert, Dr. Virginia Purcell; students, Vic Smith, Marianne Koontz, Ann Wolverton, Frank Di Santo.
The afternoon part of the program will be a film festival with all of the films related to art education.
Admission to the morning presentation by the Eames is by ticket only but will be free. Tickets may be reserved by phoning the Art Department of Long Beach State college: Long Beach 343-471.

Tell Engagement of Carol Ann Sloman
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Ellmore of 702 South Los Angeles St. announce the betrothal of their daughter, Carol Ann Sloman, to Dennis Earl Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl R. Ryan of 706 Grafton Pl. Both young people are graduates of Anaheim High school, Carol's class, June 1954 and Dennis from the class of 1953.
The bridegroom-elect is associated with his parents, owners of the French Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Anaheim. Miss Sloman, whose father is Burt F. Sloman of Kraft Foods, is employed at the dry cleaning establishment.
Set Fiesta of Stars
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Big Hollywood stars are headed for Orange County! They're scheduled for appearances in the fifth annual fiesta of stars, Saturday night at Santa Ana High school auditorium. The big show is put on by the Catholic Welfare Bureau, Bob Crosby and Bill Lundigan will share honors as MC for the show.
King Winter, and "The Butterfly" were the numbers played by Jane Ellen Sympson with Judy Sympson heard in Burgmuller "Innocence." Mary Youngman played "Cradle Song" and "Peasant Dance."
Beethoven's "Moderator" from Sonatina in G and Tchaikowsky "Song of the Lark," were played by Miriam Easton. "Lightness and Grace," and "The Butterfly," by Wright Sharon Troutman's numbers, and Lois Battle played "Preclude in A Minor" by Chopin and "The Wild Horseman" by Schuemann.
Diabelli's "Rondo in G," "To Wild Rose," by MacDowell, and Bloch's "Teasing" were Jeannette Lehr's compositions and Janet Easton was again heard in "Meadow Brooklet" by Gephard and "Elf Dance," by Grieg.
Wright's "Rondino" and Kargan off "Petite Vaise" were Carol Edcott's number with Susan Savill closing the recital with "Allegro from Sanatina in C." "About Strangling Lands and People," Schumann, and "Butterflies," by Grant-Schaeffer.

Royal Colors, Candlelight Installation Held
For Job's Daughters; Doris Simmons, New Queen
With their royal purple robes against white satin gowns, the officers of Bethel No. 5 Job's Daughters were installed. Doris Simmons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Simomns of 1435 Wedgewood was seated as honored queen.
Officiating at the ceremonies was Georgian Ehrle, retiring honored queen assisted by Sandra Johannes, Elva Glenn, Eleanor Ausburn, Janet Waters, Betty Stockwell, Jeri Lumsden and Kynn Rae Barnes, as her staff.
Jean Foster was instale a dia Nipp, Junior princess and Charlotte Pruitt and Jeri Ehrle, guide and marshal, respectively.
Appointive officers seated at the formal ceremonies were Mary Bradley, senior custodian; Judy Smith, junior custodian; Susan Brown, outer guard; Shirley Newman, inner guard; Recorder, Joyce Bokelman; asst. recorder, Diane Fellbaum; treasurer, Sunny Smith; chaplain, Arvella Legg; musician, Rita Ramsay; librarian, Shirley Maise; second messenger Kathy Gleemaker.
Third messenger, Gail Parsons; fourth messenger, Jacqueline Brenchley; fifth messenger, Karen Chariton; choir director, Karen Ellitt; soloist Emilie Bradley; electrician Trudi Borden; page, Mildred Yates.
Special Honors
Special escort honors were also accorded the retiring queen, Georgian Ehrle, honors including the presentation of the past honored queen pin by the senior princess of the past year and the new queen of 1954 Doris Simmons. Miss Simmons, in turn received her honored queen pin from Miss Ehrle and the Job's Daughters white Bible. Her father gave her a gavel inscribed with "to Doris from Mom and Dad." As she was being crowned Doris Rutledge sang, "Queen's Song."
Impressive moments included the entrance of the officers, escort the Holy Bible, presentation of colors and the entrance of the Carol Rutledge gave the installation prayer and was heard in the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" preceding the benedication given by the Rev. Al Casebeer.
The candlelight rites opened with a musical prelude with Betty Stockwell at the piano. Candlelighters were Anita Perry and Phyllis Travis with George Alden serving as master of ceremonies.
"Upwards and Onward" is the theme named by the new honored queen for her six months of service. When she took her vows of leadership she carried a white cross tied with purple streamers. Each officer also carried white crosses accented by flowers, the spiritual emblems adding to the dignity of the rituals.
Another program feature was the music by the Mozart Choir form Anaheim High school. Receptio and dancing followed the installation rites.
The lodge hall was beautiful with arrangements of spring flowers, their colors reflected by the candlestick.
Usher duties for the evening were in charge of Reese Worden, Warren Ashworth, Jerry Fall and taking care of the gift book. Fred Roberts with Betty Benson Guardian council assisting included Elsie Glenn, Pete Pruitt, Evelyn Newman, Murietta Organ, Callie Pruitt, Elva Glenn, Frances Bokelman, Clark Smith, Beadee Smith, Dorothy Theisen, Addie Belle Hunt, Hugh Nipp, George Ehrle, and Herman Johannes.
The ceremonies were held at the Masonie Temple.

To Be Installed
The Philomela Toastmistress club of Anaheim will have its installation dinner at the Villa Marina, Newport Beach, tonight at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Evelyn Hershey, past president of the Fortniter Toastmistress club will be installing officer.
Incoming officers to be installed are: Mary Kennerly, president; Rose Veyna, vice president; Peggy Sullivan, secretary; Betty Morgan, treasurer; Alice Gallager, club representative.
Retiring officers are: Thelma Clay Shipley, president; Frances Zurbruggg, vice president; Mary Kennerly, secretary; Alice Gallager, treasurer; Inez Willcutt, club representative.
The invocation will be given by Kathryn Cobb, club representative of the Santa Ana Toastmistress club, and table topics will be presided over by Leo Guolo of the Northrop Toastmasters club. The welcome and introductions will be extended by Alice Gallager, incoming treasurer of the Philomela Toastmistress club.
Speakers for the evening include Britt Grey, winner of the International Toastmasters Speech Contest and Betty Morgan, incoming treasurer of the Philomela Toastmistress club.

Coons Country Home Setting for Bridge Luncheon for Twelve
Mrs. R. A. Coora of East Ball Road, entertained three tables of bridge at a luncheon in her country home with her daughter, Mrs. Raymond Binns, assisting her in hostess duties.
The interesting living room was attractive with arrangements of spring flowers with the centerpiece featuring a unique scene in which a duck, and swan figures were used with fern, sweet peas and gladioli. Pleasantry of the afternoon was augmented with the serving of cool punch and coffee.
Taking the score awards were Mrs. Darrell of Nelson of Garden Grove, Mrs. A. Bowfan of Long Beach and Mrs. Clay Keilogg of Garden Grove.
Funeral Notice
Funeral services for Frank P. Fairbank whose death occurred early Tuesday morning at the family home at 414 W. Cypress Street after an extended illness, will be conducted from the Hilgenfeld chapel tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Rev. Chester J. Padgett, pastor of Calvary church in Placentia, will officiate and burial will be made in the family plot in the Downey cemetery.
