Through the various committees of the Lodge, tremendous work is accomplished in various fields of philanthropy. Individual aid is given to many needy families that come within reach of this Northern Orange County area. Materials, time and financial support is offered to hospitalized veterans, crippled children, the Orange County Hospital, and victims of cerebral palsy. Generosity is displayed in the support given to the youth of this district wherever the need is felt. Through the YMCA and the various Scout organizations medical supplies are provided, dental and optical necessities are taken care of. In the past year alone, over $9,000.00 was donated through the Anaheim lodge for these and other benevolances, reports Warren Ashleigh, secretary-manager of the Elks club, who is assisting in arrangements. Name Director Director of the dance studio, Mary Lou Martin, describes the program as one the entire family can enjoy without indulging one's imagination to extremes. The costumes are an array of gorgeous colors, in original and fanciful designs. They depict such scenes as a dreamland fantasy, as the sandman turns one's thought to the beautiful chasms of a child's dream. Sleepy-time gals are aware of little star lights and lovely jewels gliding through a land of lollipops, far away castles and luscious things to eat. The costumes show the talent of mothers with Mrs. Robert Miles deserving credit for her efforts in perfecting them. S.Q.E. Gives Display Brief preview of the costuming is presented the SQR window. At the side of the main entrance, a window has been devoted to the pageant with a rain ensemble, fashioned in cellophane, complete with hat, is displayed. This costume will be worn by Linda Porter and is the art work of Mrs. Miles. Appreciation has been extended to Mrs. Martha Schumacher for "looting" the window space for supervisor and dance instructor, Lenoir Richards-Martin has thrilled local audiences with a production bigger and better annually to the present date. Many of Mrs. Martin's students have witnessed fame and performed in different parts of Europe, and America, due to the personal interest and endless efforts of their instructor. Held each year, the revue has netted all profits to charity, enabling worthy help to be placed in the hands of the less fortunate and distressed families in this locality. Distribution of these funds have been through the efforts of the sponsors, Anaheim Elks Drum Corp, Elks Band, Council of Parents and Teachers and for the past to years, the Elks Lodge of Anaheim. In 1947 the local Chamber of Commerce and Anaheim Council of Parents and Teachers, presented Mrs. Martin with a bronze plaque in recognition of outstanding community service. In grateful appreciation of her inspiration and service to the youth in this community, another beautiful plaque was given to her in 1948 from the Council of Parents and Teachers and Elks Band.
