At that time Bishop Gerald Kennedy will grant Children's Worker Director of children's work at the White Temple Methodist church, Hazel Anne Burnett will be honored Sunday afternoon at the ordination service closing the annual conference session of the Methodist churches of Southern California and Arizona at University of Redlands. At that time Bishop Gerald Kennedy will grant to her certification as a Director of Christian Education, which is the equivalent for this lay field of ordination for a minister. It means that she is certified on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and ability to serve this post in any Methodist church anywhere in the world. Miss Burnett came to Anaheim last summer after her graduation with a Master's degree in Christian education from Hartford Seminary in Connecticut. She is a graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle, and holds an elementary teaching credential from that college. She has had nursery school experience in New England, and during the summer of 1952 she served as the Conference Director of Vacation Church Schools for the entire Pacific Northwest annual conference. This year, as Director of Children's Work at White Temple, she has won conference-wide recognition for her administration of a double extended-session program for six children's departments, and is also serving in the junior camping program for all of Southern California. Immediately following her certification, Miss Burnett will leave for a one week workcamp at Neighborhood House in Calexico, conducting a group of White Temple young people on a vacation church school project. They will direct day-camp activities for border children and operate a vacation school at the border city. Youth accompanying her include Ernie Leonard, Kay Eldred, Jim Harned, and Dorothy Thomas.
