Varsity Eleven Rolls to 13-0 Win Over Seniors Coach Claire Van Hoorebeke's Varsity gridders struck for a touchdown on the first play and went on to defeat the Seniors. 13-0, in the third annual flag ball game at Anaheim High School yesterday. A snafu in the Senior backfield resulted in the first Varsity six-pointer. Taking over on their own 35, the ball flew high in the air on the first play from scrimmage. After a mad scramble, End Joe Villasenor of the Varsity picked up the ball on the 20 and romped to the goal line. Paul Grover added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. The Varsitymen registered their second touchdown with 1½ minutes to play on a trick pass play of 73 yards from Roy Weaver to Paul Grover, who caught the ball in the lear and out - distanced the secondary. The pass carried approximately 45 yards in the air. The Seniors threatened several times, but most of their scoring forays were frustrated by intercepted passes. Joe Avitia halted a second-quarter Senior march when he intercepted a pass on his own 10. The Seniors had started the drive on their own 32. It featured a 21-yard dash by Fullback Hiro Shinoda. The Seniors opened the second half by penetrating to the 13 before being held for downs. The drive included a 17-yard pass from Don Leigh to End Gabe Vasquez and runs of 10 yards by Leigh and Vince Deveney. Deveney also reeled off a 35-yard run following the Varsity's second touchdown and Dean Philpott romped 30 yards following their first. Bob’s Market Nine Continues to Set Bee League Pace Bob's Super Market of Buena Park continued to pace the City "B" Softball League by nipping M & L Bates Cafe, 3-2, at Cypress Recreation Park last night. Ray Neumann tossed a three-hitter as the Buena Park nine registered its fifth victory without a loss. In other "B" League engagements this week, the Anaheim Optimists chalked up their fourth triumph by drubbing the Cypress VFW, 13-0, and VerHoeven Feed downed the La Palma Drive-In, 6-3. By DON THACKREY United Press Sports Writer SAN FRANCISCO (UP) — Oakland and Seattle improved their positions, Sacramento improved Marino Pieretti's record and the Los Angeles Angels improved their disposition in Pacific Coast League baseball games last night. The Oaks moved into second place by beating San Francisco I-0 while the Rainiers were moving into fourth with an A-8-7 decision over Portland. Sacramento downed San Diego5-4 to give Pieretti his ninth victory of the year and the Angels made themselves feel much better by beating league-leading Hollywood4-2, and drawing15,350 fans for their best crowd of the year. Don Ferrarese pushed the Seals down into third place almost single-handedly as he drove in the only run of the night and capped Seal bats with a three-hitter. Ferrarese doubled in the seventh inning to drive in an unearned run after the Seals had had chances to make four outs already in the frame. Two Errors Chuck Stevens gummed up a grounder to let Pete Milne aboard and then Jim Moran threw wild on the downhill side of an easy attempted double play. In addition Ferrarese added 11 San Francisco scalps to his league leading strikeout total. He was in trouble only through the seven walks he issued as the Oaks bopped the Seals for the third straight night. Seattle got a secure hold on fourth place the hard way.The Rainiers spotted Portland a6-0 lead and then came back with home runs by Ray Orteig,Tommy Byrne and George Schmees. Byrne and Schmees hit then homers in the eighth inning to account for three runs that gave the Suds the lead for the first time in the ball game。它 was all the Two Fullerton Players Gain All-CIF Honors Two members of Fullerton High Sunset League championship and CIF runner - up baseball squad gained recognition on the ALL-CIF selections, announced today by the Helms Athletic Foundation. As the story goes, this type of racing is expensive so KCOP made arrangements for a special ARB "rating" of this telecast to see whether or not the size of the TV audience would justify stretching the pocketbook to make it a regular Thursday night TV fare. It would appear the midget fans had two strikes on them to start with. Strike one: With only two days advance publicity, most Southland baby-racer fans didn't know the game had even started. Strike two: It's bad enough for any sport show to buck the homethis show—the one they chose to town baseball team on TV, but for "rate"-they put it opposite BOTH hometown teams- Oh well, "it only takes one!" so if you are a midget fan who missed the race but want to see them continued, we suggest you take pen in hand and let your wishes be known—KCOP, 1000 No. Cahuenge, Hollywood. Santee, Barthel Set for Epic Mile Battle in Coliseum LOS ANGELES — American mile champion Wes Santee and Olympic 1500-meter king Josy Barthel of Luxembourg clash tonight for the first time and barring chilly weather the lanky Kansan believes she can break the "Bannister Barrier." It was just one week ago tonight that Santee set his American record of 4:00.6 in the Compton Relays. He was out that cool night to break Roger Bannister's world mark of 3:59.4 but visibly tightened during the last 200 yards. Santee figures his duel with the personable Luxembourg "fireball" in this "Meet of Champions" may push him to a new mark. The weather—it won't be too warm—and the track, rated a fraction slower than Compton, may be big and only last week KO'd an attempted "fix" on this bout. 7:30 (2)—Guesting: On Person to Person, Ed Murrow will visit the training camps of heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano and challenger Ezzard Charles who will meet for the title this Thursday in Yankee Stadium.
