Leigh Picked Most Valuable Colonist; Lupe Gonzales Re-Elected as Captain
Don Leigh was selected as the most valuable player and Lupe Gonzales was re-elected captain of the squad by members of the Anaheim High School baseball squad yesterday.
Leigh was the mound mainstay of the Colonists with an earned run average of 1.20 in Sunset League competition and the second-leading hitter on the club with a .304 average.
Gonzales sparked the Mother Colony nine in loop batting with 17 hits in '45 at bats for a .378 mark. Bob Loustau was the No. 3 hitter on the squad with a .294 average and Ben Mattox ranked fourth with a .273 figure.
The Colonists will lose four regulars by graduation, including Leigh, Loustau, Mattox and Dean Philpott, and Substitutes Roger Pinkstaff and Ronnie Sabo.
However, Coach John Wallin will have a good nucleus for a strong squad in Pitchers Paul Grover and Dave Stephenson, who was out most of the season with a broken ankle; Catcher Frank Doretti, the keystone combine of Lup Gonzales and Joe Avitia. Third-baseman Al Storey and Outfielders Roy Weaver and Roy Heitman.

Eloise Bielefeld of Anaheim tossed a one-hitter as the Buena Park Lynx romped to a 6-1 triumph over Hollywood in an exhibition game on the winners' diamond last night.
Bielefeld had a no-hitter going with two out in the sixth when Mary Riding of Hollywood dropped a double into right field to score the visitors' lone run.
Doris Ray and Carolyn Broady collected three hits each to spark the Lynx' 11-hit onslaught. Ray rapped a triple and Broady a double.

Brash Seals Learn Facts of Life in Loss to Rainiers
By DON THACKREY
United Press Sports Writer
SAN FRANCISCO (UP) — The brash, young San Francisco Seahorses learned the facts of life last night but apparently nobody has told the Hollywood Stars about the birth and the bees and the adage that "you can't win 'em all."
Ray Orteig, Seattle Rainier co-chair, imparted the information to the Seals with two home runs and a double, good for five runs, as the Suds turned back the San Francisco co-upsurge with a 7-4 victory.
But the Hollywood skeptics were apprently out to "win 'em all." The Stars took the challenging Diego Padres into camp for third straight time 4-2 to make eight in a row over first division opposition—or at least opposition that was in the first division when it took on Hollywood.
Oakland helped rearrange the first division by downing Sacramento 7-4 and Los Angeles did similar job on the second division with two wins over Portland Nine and 7-4.
Orteig Enough
Orteig's blasts were enough carry the Rainiers to the series evening win. Bill Evans got the victory on his chart and Elm loss.
Hollywood took full advantage its five hits and three errors by the Padres to hand the loss on Bok Kerrigan as Bob Hall pitched good enough to win, scattering eight hits by the border towners.
Oakland moved up into a with Seattle for second place downning Sacramento 7-4.

Marino Pieretti had to sign for the loss and George Bamberger took the win although he needed help before the end from Allie Gettel.
Pitching Duel
Bob Spicer and Dick Walbostaged a nifty seven-inning pitching duel in the opening game at Portland. Los Angeles finally shoved across a run in the top seventh to take t. The Angels got only three hits off Walbel, and Spicer scattered the five Portland blows to notch the shutout.
Neither pitcher got through the first inning of the second game since each team came through with four runs. However those were the only four the Beavers could get, two them coming on Eddie Basinski home run.
The Angels added three more runs, one on a homer by Dixie Ungar right, to win by that favorite 7-count.
The double Angel win moved Cherubs a single percentage point ahead of the Seals for sixth place each club eight games off pace.
