First presented in New York in 1938, the play has since been revived and filmed successfully. It tells the story of the affection that has developed between an older man, Gramps, and his grandson, Pud. During the course of the play an attempt is made to gain control of the boy by Aunt Demetria who is, according to Gramps, "an old pismire." Cast members are Ellen Reichert as the shrewish Aunt Demetria, Gene Benedict as Gramps, Ray Middaugh as Mr. Brink, and Barbara Pletts as Granny. Others are Mary Hammond as Marcie, Jerry Evans as Dr. Evans, Jack Starr as lawyer Pilbeam, Bill Skiles as Mr. Grimes, the somewhat demented asylum keeper, and Bing Starr as the sheriff. Songs will include "Paper Doll," "My Buddy," "Somebody Stole My Gal," and others of equal melody and interest. Flapper Period The "flapper" era comes next with the songs taking back many memories to such songs as "Ain't She Sweet," "Mountain Greenery," "Yes Sir, That's My Baby," and the Charleston dance which today is again gaining momentum but on a 1954 basis. Second World War, when the majority of the girls were still left to take care of the homefront, will be another period to be staged in song and action. The melodies will include "Dream," "In the Mood," "Old Black Magic," "You'll Never Walk Alone" and the dance, New Yorker. LEMON Hospital Supervising Nurse Is Home From National Convention of ANA at Chicago Miss Alice Coppess, R.N., supervising nurse instructor at Orange County General hospital, who represented the local District Nurses' Association at the American Nurses' Association 1954 Convention in Chicago has just returned. She states the 1954 convention was the largest in ANA history, with more than 9,000 professional nurses registered. It was one of the most significant from a standpoint of progressive action and planning for the future, Miss Coppess said. This was made plain to all when Mrs. Elizabeth K. Porter, retiring president of the ANA, in her annual report, told the convention: "High standards of professional practice, such as have already been achieved, must be extended and assured of increasing development in the years to come." In the continuing campaign to provide better patient care for the public, the assembled delegates approved establishment of a research foundation to finance further studies for improving nursing service; voted to establish demonstration projects to give assistance to state nurses' associations in the development of their economic security programs; approved a program to train leaders to aid Sate Nurses' Associations in forwarding their economic security programs; urged better licensing laws covering all types of practitioners of nursing; and considered the role of nursing in the care of the aged. Nine California nurses were chosen for national offices. Miss Shirley C. Titus, executive director of the California State Nurses' Association, was elected as a result of their re-election as chairman of three of ANA's seven occupational nurse sections. In Southern California, they are Mrs. Mina Kenworthy, Downey, general duty section; and Evelyn'M. Hamlin, La Honda, institutional nursing service administration section. EVERY TIME... FROM SAFEWAY!
