ANAHEIM (Cal.) BULLETIN Thursday, May 20, 1964 Sacramento Boots Hollywood Out Of First Place in Coast League SAN FRANCISCO — The Sacramento Solons booted the ball all over the diamond and the Hollywood Stars out of first place in the Pacific Coast League last night. The Solons batters and fielders accounted for 11 runs, seven for themselves and four for the Stars, to give Marino Pieretti a 7-4 victory for his seventh of the year—a win that leap-frogged the Sacs into first place. He allowed the hard-slugging Stars only two singles, doubled home three runs in the big Sac inning and contributed two of the six Sacramento errors that gave Hollywood four unearned runs. There were changes further down the PCL leader, too. Oakland went 13 frames to score a 2-1 win over San Diego and pass Seattle's Rainiers who were blanked 4-0 by Los Angeles. Portland kept pace with the Angels by stopping San Francisco's six-game winning streak with a 54 decision. Pieretti, whose 7-1 record is one of the big surprises of the astounding Sacs, allowed only a bunt single by Dick Smith in the sixth and a line single to left in the seventh by Dale Long. However his two errors afield helped nullify his fine pitching until the eighth. In that frame Pieretti doubled with the bases loaded to drive in three of the four runs as the Solons finally took a lead for the first time in the contest. Hollywood also committed three errors during the sloppy game. Art Cuitti's single following Sam Chapman's leadoff double in the 13th gave the Oaks their victory over the Padres. Chapman had driven in the run in the bottom of the ninth that balanced Dick Sisler's sixth inning home run and prolonged the game. W. L. Pet. Chapman had driven in the run in the bottom of the ninth that balanced Dick Sisler's sixth inning home run and prolonged the game. Art Schallock, down from the New York Yankees, was the winner in relief. The Angels got only three hits off Tommy Byrne of Seattle, but two of them were homers, a two-run blow by Max West and a solo clout by Dave Cunningham. Combined with the eight-hit shut-out pitching of lefty Joe Hatten, it was enough to move the Rainiers out of the first division. Glenn Elliott took the win as the Portland Beavers at least postponed the hopes of the San Francisco Seals for getting out of the loop cellar. Adrian Zabala, pitching in relief of Ken Holcombe, was charged with the loss. The Seals outhit Portland 10-6 but also outerrored them 2-1. KITCHEN LABORATORY COPR. 1953 MUTUAL CITRUS PRODUCTS, CO. ANAHEIM, CALIF. TABLE TREATS FROM THE FAMOUS M.C.P. KITCHEN LABORATORY COPR. 1953 MUTUAL CITRUS PRODUCTS, CO. ANAHEIM, CALIF. THE BEST JAMS OF ALL ARE NOW MADE WITHOUT COOKING OR BOILING! WHY IS THIS SO? Because it's the cooking and boiling that causes loss of fresh fruit flavor. M.C.P. PECTIN'S original, exclusive uncooked jam recipes (introduced a year ago) do away with this... make jams with 100% fresh fruit flavor; use less fruit and sugar, yet get more jam (for nothing is cooked away). And imagine no working over a hot stove! Make your FRESH BERRY JAMS the M.C.P. uncooked way... and see the difference! HERE'S THE RECIPE* 1. Wash, stem, crush thoroughly enough berries to make 4 level cups; put in 2 or 4 qt. kettle. Sift in slowly 3½ oz. package M.C.P. JAM AND JELLY PECTIN (no other will do), stirring vigorously. Set aside 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to dissolve pectin fully. 2. Add 1 cup light corn syrup. Mix well. 3. Measure exactly 5½ level cups beet or cane sugar into dry dish; gradually stir into crushed berries. Warming to 100°F. (temperature for baby's milk) will hasten sugar dissolving. No hotter, please! 4. When sugar is dissolved, jam is ready to eat. Makes 4 full pints. (Note: For Strawberries, add ¼ cup lemon juice in Step 3, after sugar is dissolved; mix well.) 5. Because these are uncooked jams, never store them on pantry shelf. They won't keep without refrigeration. To keep for a month or more, chill for 24 hours in freezer, or freezing or ice cube compartment of refrigerator. Then, store as you do milk and use as desired. IMPORTANT! Complete recipes for both cooked and uncooked jams are now being packed in the M.C.P. PECTIN package. If recipe folder you get does NOT include the uncooked jams, write M.C.P. Co., Anaheim, Calif., and they'll be sent promptly. *Copr. 1954 M.C.P. Co. WHY NOT GIVE THE YOUNGSTERS A TREAT THAT'S GOOD FOR THEM? PURE LEMONADE!... Everyone likes it, and it's so wholesome, too; not like so many beverages that taste good but aren't really so good for us. However, lemonade made with M.C.P. CANNED LEMON JUICE is pure... for M.C.P. LEMON JUICE is pure, unadulterated, full-strength, rich in Vitamin C. It's NOT "reconstituted" juice... contains no preservatives of any kind, such as unwhole-some sulphur dioxide or benzoate of soda. (Watch out for this in buying lemon juice, canned or bottled—read the label carefully.) M.C.P. LEMON JUICE costs less than home-squeezed... is ready for instant use for every household need. Write for a FREE Recipe Folder to the M.C.P. Kitchen Laboratory, Anaheim, California. (There's M.C.P. FROZEN LEMON JUICE, too. If your grocer doesn't stock it, he can get it for you.) Milco. some doubt about whether Hasty Road, the probable second choice in the mile-and-three-sixteenth classc, would run even though officially entered Wednesday, Harry Trotek, trainer of the Hasty House farm colt, said Wednesday just before leaving for Chicago, that Hasty Road Nation’s Crack Teams Practice for LOS ANGELES (UP) — The nation’s crack relay teams got in their last practice licks today for the 14th running of the Coliseum Relays tomorrow night. The relays plus a big list of special events are expected to attract close to 50,000 fans who hope to see a few world records either broken or tied. The classic mile relay will probably be scratched. Trotek said that Hasty Road did not like the Pimlico track and owner All'e Reuben might wish him withdrawn. The sprint relays and the two mile may draw some more top attention. USC and Texas will shoot to beat the Trojan’s own marks set in the 440 and 880—400 and 1:24.0, respectively. Texas has been whacking away at the mark. ROQUET'S MA st Broadway. Texas has tackling away at the marks for years and may have its best chance tomorrow night. The Longhorns hit 40.3 in the Kansas Relays but the mark was not accepted because of wind on the long straightaway of the track. Texas also clipped off a 1:24.8 in the 880 relay just .8 off the record. In the field events, the high jump and discus shape up as two bell ringers. USC's Ernie Shelton, who hopes to make the world's first 7 ft. leap, will be pressed by Chuck Holding of East Texas State. Holding, in fact, has a better mark than Shelton, having cleared the bar at 6-10 a quarter inch edge on the Californian's top jump this season. Shelton hit 7 ft. in a practice session but flicked the bat with the tip of his toe going down. The big boys, Partly O'Brien, Fortune Gordien, Leon Patterson, Des Koch and Ron Drummond will be the featured attractions in the discus with Gordien given the edge. Gordien, of the Los Angeles Athletic Club had a top qualifying toss of 175 feet, $8\frac{1}{2}$ inches yesterday. Koch placed second with 163 feet, 8 inches, closely followed by OBrien with 163 feet, 6 inches. The marks will count toward final results if they are not bettered. MARKET 9 A.M. to 8 P.M.
