Kindergarten Provides Entertainment During Recent Cypress PTA Meeting CYPRESS—Highlight of the Cypress Parent teacher meeting held in the auditorium of the school last Thursday evening, was the presentation of songs and dances by the kindergarten classes. Under the leadership of the two kindergarten teachers; Mrs. Mark Kirk and Mrs. Jean Brisendine, the pupils sang three songs. "I Went for a Ride in the Country," "The Green Grasshopper", and "The Getting Up Song." Following the songs, the group presented a short dance which they had learned the past year. These girls of the seventh and eighth grades modeled dresses, skirts, blouses, pajamas and dusters which they had made for themselves this year in their sewing class. At the close of the fashion show the group gave them a big band and president Mrs. Arthur Collins expressed regret that the girls would not be at Cypress next year since they would be attending the new Western Junior High School. The meeting was opened by the flag salute which was led by the eighth grade girls who also served as flag bearers. Special Meeting Called Mrs. Edna Mahaffe announced that a special meeting would be held at Magnolia school on Tuesday on Tuesday May 18, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is being held to explain the curriculum and other points concerning students in the new junior high school. She also announced that Principal K.R. Wines will be present to answer questions for the patients. Parents included all of those in the Cypress, Centralia, Magnolia, and Savanna districts with children in the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades next fall. President Collins announced that meeting of the fourth district would be held on May 20 at the Los Alamitos Naval Air Base and Jim Duncan — Editor News From CHRISTIAN Phone JJ Jake Van Dyke has accepted the position of general chairman of the 1954 Cypress White Gold Day, was announced last Monday evening at the meeting of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce by President Don Caul. Plans will be underway soon for the big event, with some preliminary moves already started. At the Monday meeting, secretary Beth Kroesen read a letter from O. E. Hanson of the Anaheim branch of the Bank of America, in which he answered a recent query from the local booster group inquiring as to the possibilities of establishing a branch of fice of the bank in Cypress. He said a survey had been taken several years ago but since they realized the growth that had taken place since then, he would recommend a new survey by his bank in a letter to the Los Angeles office. When an invitation to the Huntington Beach Fourth of July parade was read, the Chamber members launched into a lengthy discussion of the possibilities of building a permanent float for Cypress to be entered in all parades. Several ideas were airied, and individuals were appointed to look into the feasibility of some of them. Reports will be made at the next meeting. Plans are being made for a carnival and dinner to be held at the Lindbergh school: Friday, May 21, according to Mrs. John Reed, ways and means chairman of the school Parent - Teacher Association. A comedy movie will be shown to the children as well as food and game booths. A cake walk will be a feature attraction of the evening. I. Erickson of Pomona; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thompson of Kansas City; and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Boucher of Whittier. from the hospital following an emergency appendectomy which was performed last week. Mrs. William Troutman of Lincoln avenue has been confined to her home the past week with the flu. Mrs. Evie Junker and Ethel Cleveland have been attending the Assembly of the Rebekah which was held in Long Beach this week.
