Pupil-Chorus Featured on PTA Program; Horace Mann Teacher 22 Years Honored
The voices of 60 children joined in chorus was one of the highlights of the final meeting; of the Horace Mann PTA held in the school auditorium. Led by Mrs. Harmon, sixth grade teacher, with Mrs. Harriet Schadewald, music consultant, as accompanist, the combined sixth grade chorus presented five songs. Prior to their vocal selections, Dora Jean Wollin presented both Mrs. Harmon and Mrs. Schadewald with corsages from the PTA in appreciation of the time and effort spent with them in rehearsal.
Miss Emille Axtell, faculty member, who has taught 22 years at Horace Mann school, was and who retires from the schools this year, was honored. A beautiful table lamp and an orchid corsage was presented Miss Axtell by Mrs. Vernon Starr, in behalf of the Parent-Teacher association.
Sharing the program of the evening were three speakers from the Premont Junior High school and a panel of sixth grade students from Horace Mann school.
Participating from Premont Junior High were Mrs. Tommy Thomason, principal; Mrs. Melva Williams, dean of girls, and Avon Carlson, dean of boys, each of whose gave a short resume of the type school program to be set up. Thiamason stated that the Junior high plan offers students a better opportunity for satisfactory exploratory experiences, better social adjustment, better counseling and guidance program for the child.
The student panel was composed of students from each of the three sixth grades at Horace Mann school. Participating were Linda Monell, Marilyn Bain, Janice Mitchell, Russell Copeland Marie Jenkins, and Stephen Brandon.

John P. Mary, with the aid of interesting charts, explained the elementary school bond issue to be voted for in June. Enrollment in our Anaheim Elementary schools has jumped from 1,462 children in daily attendance in 1950 to an expected 3,555 in September 1954. This number is expected, from housing developments in progress,

On June 5 a committee of fathers, headed by Carmen Franco, is planning a dance to honor the women who have served as room mothers this past year. "They are promising an enjoyable evening with the admission price to be a cake, pie, or cookies," states Mrs. O'Brien.
Fourth grade room-mother hostesses were Mrs. A. P. Mitchell, Mrs. Don White, Mrs. Roy Schiebel, Mrs. C. J. Blue, and Mrs. C. E. Gilpin. Pouring at the tea table were Mrs. Windsor Seapy and Mrs. Frank Del Giorgio.
Woman of Year to Be Named by FJC Students
To dramatize the qualities which women admire in one another, women students at Fullerton Junior College will select, for the first time this year, a coed to be titled "Woman of the Year."
Sponsored by Associated Women Students, the contest will be joined by all women's groups on campus, said Edith Myers of Norwalk, AWS president. Ten coeds will be nominated by clubs. Five will become finalists.
Popular vote of women students will elevate one of the finalists to the title of "Woman of the Year." She will be introduced and awarded at the annual rose tea, May 26. Ten points of judging will be considered.
The screening committee will select finalists by ranking the nominees of these qualifications as follows: one point for these qualifications as president; two points for these qualifications as chairman; three points for these qualifications as vice president; four points for these qualifications as secretary; and Mrs. Ethel W Berkeley, treasurer.

BPW Endorses Mildred Young Elects Officers
SAN FRANCISCO (UP)
Mildred Younger, Republican candidate for the state Senate Los Angeles, has been enlisted by the board of directors California Federation of B and Professional Women's Association.
The endorsement was yesterday at the closing of the group's 34th annual convention.
In other action, the 103 gates elected Helen J. Madukia president for the year.
Other new officers are Gladys Anne Sheerin, Vivian Elow, Los Angeles, 2nd vice president; Mrs. LoDocha Ellis, 3rd vice president; Mrs. Mae secretary; and Mrs. Ethel W Berkeley, treasurer.

Women's League at Zion Lutheran to Get Convention News
Reports on the Riverside convention will be given in Thursday's 2 p.m. meeting of Zion Lutheran Womens League. Mrs. Walter Knigge, president, and Mrs. Elroy Oldenburg will present reports.
The program will feature a showing of color slides on the workings of the guild system within Fairh Lutheran church of os Angeles. Mrs. William Scharnwebber, former member of that church and now an Anaheim resident, will show the slides.
The Rev. E. H. Pflag, pastor of the church, will give a brief talk on "Stewardship." The league is considering giving up all kinds of money-making projects and making their gifts to church work entirely free - will donations.
Herb Society Slates 'Open Garden' Event
The Orange County Herb Society will have its "open garden" Thursday at the junction of North Flower and North Park Boulevard, Santa Ana. Cuttings from the small herb plants will be on sale.
It is by such a sale in the spring and herb products in the fall that money is received to aid in maintaining the garden which has proved to be a civic beautification project as well as a means for products to those who desire the herbs.

Y Indian Guide Tribal Hold Dinner Meeting

Recreation Director Outlines Summer Program for Youths at Lincoln PTA Meet
Outlining a most impressive summer recreation program, Don Derr, recreation director of Anaheim, spoke to the members of the Lincoln Parent Teacher Association at a recent meeting at the school. New activities this year will include dancing, tap or ballet, and summer orchestra and band. Otherwise the program will follow that of past summers with swimming, juvenile league baseball, tennis, arts and crafts being featured. Derr announced that during the first part of June programs will be distributed to acquaint the parents with the available facilities for their youngsters during the summer.
An interesting demonstration in aluminum craft was given by Mrs. Marge Burchell's after-school Kraft Klub.
The three members taking part were Catherine Gates, Dot Nankervis, and Linda Backus.
Speaks on Bond Issue
Paul Cook, superintendent of elementary schools, explained the forthcoming school bond issue. With the tremendous growth of Anaheim, the need for a projected school program was stressed.
Brownie Scouts of troop 17, Mrs. Edward Real and Mrs. Tad Cook leaders, gave the flag salute to open the meeting. Brownies taking part were Judith West Mary Koch, Janice Coehlo, Christine Miles, Connie Libby, Helen Louise Rea Paula Venable, Carol Wagner and Judy Cook.
State convention news was given by Mrs. Jack Polley and Mrs. Herbert Taylor. Parent interest in PTA and class demonstrations were suggested by Mrs. Polley to be emphasized in the coming year. The thought for the day was given by Mrs. Jim Mesnazd.
Enroll Kindergarten
Announcements were made that Kindergarten enrollment will be held May 24 through 28 from 9 until 12 in the morning at Lincoln for both Lincon and Thomas Edison schools. Also Thomas Edison PTA will hold their organization and charter meeting on May 27. An invitation was extended to all sixth grade mothers to attend the next Premont PTA meeting.
P. S. Doane, who is retiring at the end of this term after 18 years as principal of Lincoln School was presented a gift on behalf of the Parent association by Mrs. Ben Wright.
Presiding at the tea table which was decorated with spring flowers, were Mrs. James Hull and Mrs. Robert Davis. Hostesses for the social hour were fifth grade room mothers, Mrs. Otto Trapp and Mrs. George Donnell.

Mrs. Gail Burnett of Buena Park was elected president of the Orange County Federation of Women's clubs. Junior membership at the general meeting in the Santa Ana Woman's clubhouse in the neighboring city. Recognition Ceremony
A recognition graduation ceremony for past county board members was given by county advisor, Mrs. Marion F. Spencer. Those honored were Meadames Grover Hermes, W. E. Martin, Ralph Fore, Robert Bidwell, Buell Brown, William Rosenfeld and Milton Johnson.
Advisors trophy for Junior-Senior cooperation was presented by Mrs. T. R. Coleman, past county advisor, to the outstanding club in Junior-Senior cooperation. Seal Beach were the winners. Attendance trophy was won again by Huntington Beach Juniors.
Program was presented by Mrs. Upton Pett, first vice of Santa Ana Woman's club. Men's double quartet of the First Christian church sang four delightful numbers; "Stout hearted men," "No man is an Island," "When Day is Done"; "Dry Bones"; "Skip to M Lou".

Candidates to Speak
Here Tuesday Morning
Four candidates for the office of county district attorney will present their qualifications and reasons for filing at the Tuesday morning meeting Women's club. The meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Tommy Kuchel headquarters at the corner of Clementine and West Center Streets.
Candidates to be presented are Robert Kneeland of Santa Ana, Robert Fraser of Tustin, Frank Linnell of Newport Bleach, Elmer Guy of Fullerton. They will each speak approximately 10 minutes with question period to follow.
Hospitality half hour will precede the session with Mrs. George Alden, president of the club to extend the welcome. Invitation is issued to any person interested in these Orange County candidates for one of the most important officers in the county courts.
The meeting is open to the public with the speakers scheduled at 10 a.m. Mrs. Coalson Morris is program chairman.

Between 4 and 5 p.m. today over Channel 7, Cherry Bailey, Beverlin Griffin and Jane Leopard, students of Val Moore, Hawaiian dance teacher appear. This is the Al Jarvis show. On a recent date the dancers from the Moore studios presented a show at Costa Mesa, honoring the approaching fish fry. One of the students, Shelby Tunell is a queen contestant for the fish fry.

AUGUST WEDDING—Mary Ann Loralne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Loraine at Huntington Beach and Ronald Legg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Legg at 129 Flower, Anaheim, will wed this summer in the St. Simon and Jude sanctuary at Huntington Beach. The bride-elect is a student at Orange Coast college and met her bridegroom elect on that campus. He is a graduate of Anaheim High school and is employed with Yellis Dairy.

Anaheim High School Colonist Band did allright this weekend in their parade competitions Friday afternoon at the Spanish Fiesta parade Santa Ana college, they took first place. At the Alahembra "Hi Neighbor" parade Saturday might they won third place.
Four foreign students from the Fullerton Junior College attended a Visiting International Students Association Conference at Palm Springs recently. Together with approximately 40 other students from various college in Southern California, Carmen Alvarado, Ursula Schmitz, Bah'eh Khalili, and John Kahkonen presented a program to the Rotary Club members (sponsors of VISA) at a banquet Saturday night at the Deep Well Inn.

Louise Gallagher Heads FJC Service Club for Next Term
Louise Gallagher of Anaheim has been elected 1954-55 president of Phi Alpha Omega. Fullerton Junior College service club.
Sharing responsibilities with Louise will be Beverly Old of Fullerton, vice-president; Judy Mills of Anaheim secretary; Ellen Cockrell of Whittier, treasurer; and Rae Ramsbarger of Garden grove, parliamentarian.
New officers will be installed at a special meeting May 19 in the college lounge, with Louise Newton of Placentia, this year's president officiating. Mothers of members are invited and refreshments will be served after the installation.
North Lenz Dr. welcomed their infant daughter Friday at St. Joseph hospital. The baby is the grand-daughter of City Councilman and Mrs. L. N. Wisser of 126 North Helena St.

Film Fair Slated Tonight, Tuesday, Wednesday Nights
Persons interested in attending Film Fair, sponsored by the county libraries and taking place at the Fullerton Wilshire School auditorium today through May 19, may call the Anaheim library.
The program takes place each evening at 7:30. Admission is free with Anaheim limited to 75 tickets.
