Segregation in Schools Outlawed by Court (Continued from Page 1) nation. Only in this way can it be determined if segregation in public schools deprives these complaints of the equal protection of the laws." "Today, education is perhaps the most important function of state and local government..." "In these days, it is doubtful that any child may reasonably be expected to succeed in life if he is denied the opportunity of an education." "Such an opportunity, where the state has undertaken to provide it, is a right which must be made available to all on equal terms." Warren then took up the question whether segregation of children in separate buildings, solely on the basis of race even though physical facilities are equal, deprives colored children of equal educational opportunities. "We believe that it does," he said. Warren recalled twin decisions of the court in 1950 which required admission of Negro students on an unsegregated basis to state-supported graduate schools in universities in Texas and Oklahoma. Henning Withdraws From Trustee's Race (Continued from Page 1) have thus far shown no particular business acumen in keeping the high school's financial head above water? 5. Why does the board permit the presence in the school of books refrencing the writings of authors who have been cited by responsible government agencies, as belonging to Communist or Communist front organizations?" and taken to Orange County General hospital when his crashed at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Euclid avenue and Katella Road with a car driven by Russell O. May Send Sea, Air Aid to Indo-China (Continued from Page 1) said the United States should press forward with its proposed 10-nation alliance without waiting for India Indonesia, Burma and other Asian "neutrals" to join. Down The Drain "I think it is highly unlikely that presently at least they will join in such a pact," he said. "And if we wait for them to make up their minds, I am afraid that all of Southeast Asia will go down the drain." Knowland also proposed that South Korea and Nationlist China be invited to join the alliance, saying that between them they have over 1,100,000 men under arms. Sen. Mike Mansfield (D-Mont) objected that for the present at least Formosa and South Korea should join Japan in a separate alliance. Why does the board permit the presence in the school of books referencing the writings of authors who have been cited by responsible government agencies, as belonging to Communist or Communist front organizations? 6. Why does the board insist upon placing itself in the delicate position of refusing to acknowledge the danger of Communist-Socialist aims at using the public schools to shape the minds of American youth at the earliest possible age-level? Can't be that the present board of trustees is no naive as to assume that Anaheim High School has been left out of the Communist timetable? 7. By what reasoning does the board evade its legal responsibilities by shifting its duties, in part, to a "Citizens Advisory Board"? Upos this set of all important questions. I rest the case of the citizens of the AUHS district, versus the policy - making principles of the present board of trustees. Very respectfully, (signed) Dick Henning Henning's withdrawal from the race leaves only incumbant Art Shipkey opposing Holve and Coons for two posts.
