Colonists Top Panthers
To Tie For Third Place
Anaheim's Colonists moved into a tie for third place in the Sunset circuit by trimming the Orange Panthers, 5-3 at La Palma Park yesterday.
Anaheim and Orange now have identical 6-6 records with three games to go.
The Pullerton Indians retained their grip on the loop lead by lacing Huntington Beach, 10-3, and Newport kept pace one game behind with a 1:0 triumph over the Saints of Santa Ana.
The Colonists jumped off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning yesterday, tallying all of their runs on a pair of errors after two were out. After Bob Loustau walked and Luke Gonzales singled, Joe Avitia hit a line drive to right field that slipped off the Panther outfielder's glove to score two runs. Avitia then raced home on an infield bobble.
Roy Weaver and Loustau accounted for Anaheim's final two runs in the second and fourth. In both cases Weaver stole second and scored on a single by Loustau.

City League Softball Play Warms Up
Thursday's City League softball play saw a tight pitcher's dual broken up by a left field homer in the top of the tenth inning as the Elks edged Ballman's, 3-2.
In other games, the Magnolia Cobras seemed to have had their fangs extracted as they went down 1-0 to the Teamsters. A slightly higher scoring fracas resulted in P and L Transmission beating Hunt Foods, 6-5, P and L manure of the game was a seventh in-geed 11 h'ts to 7 for Hunt's A fea-ing homer by Frank Perez after a good inning had already put the winner's into a 5-4 lead.
