A long range interdenominational program to encourage use and understanding of the Bible in America has gotten under way for sponsorship of the National Council of the Churches of Christ U. S. A.

Scientist Topic To Be Probation
Spiritual understanding brings freedom from the fear of death declares the Sunday lesson-sermon on "Probation after Death" in all Christian Science churches.
The golden text is from Isaiah, "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined."
In John's Gospel Jesus declares, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
"The universal belief in death is of no advantage," writes Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. She says, "It cannot make life or truth apparent. Death will be found at length to be a mortal dream, which comes in darkness and disappears with the light." "Universal salvation rests on progression and probation, and is unattainable without them."
Final Evangelistic Service Are Sundays
Representatives of the largest church women's organization last week declared them opposed to any form of racial segregation in the U.S. public school meeting in Atlantic City, N.J., proximately 2,500 delegates of ted Church Women also unmotely dedicated themselves "eternal vigilance" against any rogation of the U.S. Constitution and Bills, expressed grave concern at "the extent to which the U.S. States has become a vast whig gallery of charges and couch charges."
In other resolutions the clergy women urged the U.S. government to separate the Point to Program from U.S. military gramps, adopt the United Nations Covenant on Human Rights, support the United Nations and UN International Children's Emergency Fund, and strive to assist international reduction and eradication of armaments. In addition, the national delegation — sentencing 2,000 local and state cliffs of church women through the U.S. and Hawaii — added statements calling on the membership of United Church men to work urgently toward racially inclusive councils of clergy women throughout the nation; undertake programs to provide social assurances and financial port for new citizens emigrating from the U.S. States under the George Relief Act of 1953.
United Church Women, who represents 10,000,000 Protestants Eastern Orthodox church women in the U.S., Hawaii and Canada—the lay women's arm of the National Council of churches.
To Church of Nazarene
The Anaheim Church of the Nazarene has named the Rev. Murray L. Morford, from Hammond, Ind., as the new pastor. Morford has just concluded a four year pastorate at the Woodlawn Church of the Nazarene in Hammond.
The formal education of Mr. and Mrs. Morford includes Cascade College in Portland, Ore. and Asbury College in Willmore, Ky. Former pastoral work has been done in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana.
Three sons make up the remainder of the family. The oldest son, Ray, is a sophomore at Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Ill. Gene is a freshman at Anaheim Union High School and Allen is in the seventh grade at Premont School. The parsonage is located at 1001 West Broadway.
FAITH TO FREEDOM
President Eisenhower headed the list of major speakers invited to address the assembly of United Church Women at Atlantic City, N.J. The President told an audience of 5,000 delegates and guests that "with your neighbors you can join in work that — even as it remakes your own town or hamlet — helps remake the world." Emphasizing the choice between atomic destruction and "a world ever advancing in peace and prosperity," the Chief Executive declared his belief that "one of the supreme hopes for the world's destiny lies in the American community; in its moral values, in its sense of order and decency, in its cooperative spirit."
Final Evangelistic Services Are Sunday
The Rev. J. W. Ellis of Pasadena, who has been holding a series of revival services for the past week at the Cypress Church of the Nazarene, will speak at the Sunday morning service.
Sunday begins the 50th anniversary of the church and is set aside as the annual homecoming day. There will be a basket lunch during the noon hour with all members and friends invited to bring a favorite dish and enjoy a time of fellowship.
Several presons have been invited to speak from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. as ministers who have served the church in the past.
Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m.; Luncheon at 12:45 p.m.; Afternoon services 2:30; and the Youth services at 6:30. At 7:30 p.m., the Reverend Ellis will give his final sermon of his Evangelistic series.

End of Korean War Brings Rejoicing
Men and women everywhere rejoiced that the killing has suspended in Korea even for a months, notes Dr. Wayland Zwolowicz of Church World Seven. But these rejoicings are tempestuous by the realization that an army or even a political agreement will leave Korea divided still within an area of tension and uncertain comparable with those in Germany and the Holy Land, he adds.
The boundaries will still be by armed forces, and Korea still be a factor in the total plan of world unrest until some comprehensive and world-wide settlement is reached. Until Koreas is united, the refugees in South Korea not return to the north of present line of demarcation, means they the South will have to bear the burden of nomic rehabilitation.

EVERY MEMBER CANVASS
FALL IS TRADITIONALLY every member cavass time in the Episcopal church, when a concentrated effort is made to instill in churchmen a spirit of Christian giving and to enlist their support for the Church's work. The theme of the Episcopal Church's 1953 Every Member Canvass, "Of Thine Own Have We Given Thee," stresses Christianewardship, or returning to God a portion of His gifts to man. The thought expressed by the Episcopal church is one that has been caught by other churches in the Southland with great emphasis placed on persons becoming affiliated with a church during the holiday period.

Superintendent Comes to White Temple Methodist
Dr. Maurice G. Ballenger, new superintendent of the San Diego district of the Methodist church, will be welcomed by the congregation of White Temple in Anaheim at the 7 o'clock evening service on Sunday.
Coffee hour in his honor will follow the service, after which he will address the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Dr. Ballenger comes to this district after a distinguished pastorate at the Catalina Methodist church in Tucson, Ariz., to which charge the Rev. Hayden S. Sears, former San Diego District superintendent and former pastor of White Temple, was appointed last June. During Dr. Ballenger's pastorate, the Tucson church built up a membership of over 2,000, and conducted a Sunday night community forum regularly attended by over 1,000 persons, according to records. The new leader has also won wide recognition for his spiritual life "ashrums" for youth, adapted from his missionary experience in India.
At both the 9 and 11 o'clock morning services, the Rev. Frank E. Butterworth will preach on the question, "Are We Nearing the End of the World?"
