GOP Helps Eisenhower Celebrate Birthday (Continued from Page 1) an outdoor box supper in a stadium, a $100-a-plate roast beef dinner and a circus tent and a three-bour show in the Hershey Arena. High spot of the evening for Mr. Eisenhower was formal notification of the creation of the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships by friends across the country to promote better international understanding. This was his big birthday gift. In his only extensive, but informal remarks of the eveing, the President said he hoped the fellowships would promote "International relationships of friendship and not enmity, not prejudice, not preconceived notions that the other fellow is a skunk while we are pretty good fellows." Message of Youth The President also had a particular message for the young people in the audience: "The Republican party is trying to use all of its brains, all of the ability it has, all of its understanding of this world as it now exists...to establish the foundation from which you will carry this United States forward to greater blessings of liberty and freedom under God than it has ever known before." Mr. Eisenhower was undeniably touched by the warmth of the reception he received in Hershey. In the chilly night air of the stadium, the President's eyes glistened with appreciation as an estimated 12,000 persons sang repeated choruses of "Happy Birthday." The rise in the industrial stocks was the widest in a week. Gains in other departments were mostly in the fractional zone. A few railroad equities displayed a considerable amount of strength. The rise in the industrial group was touched off by a highly favorable earnings report by Republic Steel. That stock was the bellwether in the section. Republic was the first company to reveal its earnings for the third quarter. It had record sales and its net profit amounted to $2.30 a common share, compared with $1 cents a share in the strike ridden quarter of 1952. Investors generally feel that other major steel producers will show highly favorable results in the third quarter. Outside of the rails and the industrials, utilities only rose a few cents as measured by the averages. Low priced Benguet Mining stole the spotlight in volume. It was the most active stock. It opened on a block of 71,000 shares at $1, unchanged. Just before the close, it was traded at 1 1-8. A few of the high priced oil shares registered wide changes. Pankey, chairman of the bureau's membership committee. He said that his committeemen are "mopping up" the last of 500 memberships which must be included on the membership rolls as of Oct. 31 if the bureau is to be given credit, on a state-wide basis, for its enrollment of more than 3500 farm families. Many of the ones not yet signing or paying—are those who usually pay at conclusion of crop harvests or marketing, Pankey explained. The bureau's directors, faced with bids for too much outlay for a headquarters building on Chapman Ave. near Flower St., are revising downward their plans and soon will ask new bids. The structure as now planned should cost no more than $55,000 it was estimated. If It's News You'll See It In The Bulletin OPEN FRIDAYS 9 TIL 9 P.M. SMITH - REAFIT FURNITURE CO.
