Avocado Institute Slated Oct. 24 LA HABRA — Arrangements for the 25th annual Avocado Growers' Institute of Los Angeles and Orange counties were hearing completion today for the event scheduled Oct. 24 at La Habra's Washington School. Up to 1000 growers from the two counties will be present at the day long sessions or at some of the discussions which will concern avocado culture, research and marketing; diseases, rootstock, varieties, tree care and soil adaptability; and other phases of production. Panel discussions will deal with many of the topics and growers will have an open forum discussion on particular questions they wish to propound from the floor, according to the sponsoring Agricultural Extension Service and the farm bureau avocado departments of the two counties. While the institute is of particular importance to the growers, anyone else is invited to attend, it was announced. "Sessions begin at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 24 and will conclude at 4 p.m." Gunman Robs Puente Bank of $1500 PUENTE (UP) — Police questioned possible witnesses today in their search for a gunman who eluded officers after robbing the Puente Bank of America branch of $1,500.
