Five Married Couples Teach in Anaheim School System The Anaheim City School system welcomed 31 new teachers into Anaheim's Elementary schools this year. Of the total, five married couple are continuing their profession. William and Dorothy Cullen, 847 North Palm St., were both born in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated intendent of schools in Thornburg, Iowa for four years and spent four years as an Air Force pilot during World War II. This summer he attended summer session at the Los Angeles State College and whenever possible indulged in his hobbies of flying and athletics and seven in high school, taught in Lincoln, Nebraska to coming to Anaheim where teaching this year the fourth fifth grade combination class the Lincoln school. Mrs. Cullen holds a junior college degree and has taught school for six years. She is the kindergarten teacher at the Horace Mann school this year. Her special educational interests are art and handcraft and her hobbies and special interests are sewing and handcraft. Her husband is teaching at John G. Fremont junior high school. He has a Master of Arts degree and has taught seven years as teacher and athletic coach. He was superintendent of schools in Thornburg, Iowa for four years and spent four years as an Air Force pilot during World War II. This summer he attended summer session at the Los Angeles State College and whenever possible indulged in his hobbies of flying and athletics. His special educational interest is youth guidance work and civic interests are playgrounds and parks. The Cullents have no children. Another married couple who are continuing to teach are the John Killeen. Catherine Killeen was born in Scottsbluffs, Nebraska and received her A.B. degree at the University of Wyoming. She also attended the University of South Dakota for 11 graduate hours. She has taught for eight years. One year in a junior high school and seven in high school, taught in Lincoln, Nebraska, to come to Anaheim where she teaching this year the fourth fifth grade combination class the Lincoln school. Mrs. Killeen's special education interests lie in dramatics, journalism and art and she has been to several organizations including the LTA, NEA, NSEA, Class Teachers, National Council of Irish Teachers and the National Society of Journalism Directors. In Pickstown, South Dakota planned and purchased many and books for a complete library for high school and elementary schools. She has also soored a school paper, annual directed school plays. Mrs. Killeen revealed that civic interests are the Jobs Divers, child guidance centers organizations such as the Republican, Lincoln Artists'ety, the Mental Health Association Delta Delta Delta Alumni and the Nebraska Film Society. Her hobbies and special interests are drawing, painting, ceramics, photography and I work. John Killeen is one of the members of the Thomas Jefferson School faculty where he teaches fourth grade. He is a graduate of the University of South Dakota has an undergraduate degree DePauw University. He holds A.B. and Masters Degree in Education. His teaching experience includes elementary and secondary schools and prior to moving to Anaheim, he taught four years mentary and junior schools in Lincoln, Nebraska. College activities in which participated were the Agricultural College Student Union of the university of Nebraska in which served as a director, he was search chemist with the National Resource Research Institute of University of Wyoming, and search Fellow in Physiology Pharmacology at the University South Dakota. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development brska Vocation Guidance Association, Association for Childhood Education, National Association Science Teachers, National Association of Mathematics Teachers department of Classroom Teaching. He is interested in elementary education and a member of several professional committees in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is one of the original members of the Elementary Committee for the Gifted Child, a member of Test and Measurement Committee for elementary grades and a member of several guidance and curriculum committees on junior high school level such as textbooks selection, course of study and discipline. Last year he was chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Lincoln Teacher's Association, Chairman of the Publicity Committee of the L.T.A. and was one of the two elementary teachers to represent the L.T.A. at the Delegate Assembly of the Nebraska State Education Association. His civic interests include the Young Republican's organization, Y.M.C.A., and while in Lincoln, Y.M.C.A. and while in Lincoln, Nebraska, he was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, Lancaster County Mental Health Association, a member of the Urban League, Nebraska Film Society and a member of the Circlet Theater Group. Floyd, Lee and Carolyn Raberding have also come to California from back East and are making their home in Anaheim at 514½ East South St. Mrs. Raberding's home town is Hammond, Indiana and she attended La Verne College where she received a B.A. degree. She is teaching Kindergarten at Benjamin Franklin school. Last year, she taught Kindergarten in Barstow, California. Her hobbies and special interests are dancing, sports and music, particularly the piano. Her educational interests include several teacher's organizations such as the N.E.A., C.T.A., and other teacher's clubs. Floyd Raberding was born in Toledo, Ohio and also attended La Verne College. This is his first year of teaching and he is teaching the fifth grade at the Horace Mann school. Prior to becoming a teacher he was an engineering draftman at the Agrolet Engineering Corp. JOAN HAAG Opens New Beauty Salon Local Beauty Shop Has New Owner Patrons of Vada's Beauty Shop, 210 North Los Angeles St., will be interested to learn that the shop has been sold to Miss Joan Haag and will be reopened Friday under the new name of Joan's Beauty Salon. Miss Haag, well-known Anaheim beautician, worked in another Anaheim beauty parlor for a year and a half then went to Oklahoma City for a few months. While there she took a course in beauty shop operation and studied the latest in modern hair styling. The salon has been completely remodeled and redecorated which gives it a pleasant atmosphere and environment. Although the grand opening won't be until a few weeks, Miss Haag is opening her shop Friday and is offering some items in and out. National Debt Nears Top of Legal Limit WASHINGTON (UP)—The Treasury plans to borrow between one and a half and two billion dollars in the next few weeks to help cover the cost of the federal deficit. This borrowing could raise the national debt within 500 million of its 275 billion legal limit, but the Treasury does not expect to call it off. Officials Ponder Readiness of Russ For H-Bomb War By LYLE C. WILSON WASHINGTON (UP)—There is vigorous d'escussion within the Eisenhower Administration today on basic policies relating to taxes, defense spending and foreign relations. The situation arises from official uncertainty about the answers to a couple of fundamental questions: 1. Is the Soviet Union ready for H-bomb warfare? 2. If so, what should be done about it? Defense Secretary Charles E. Wilson gave the problems a new slant in a late news conference yesterday. He believed the United States was about three years ahead of the Soviet Union in bomb and bomber airplane development. No Reason for Panic "In other words," Wilson added, "it would be perhaps three years before they had a reasonable number of such (hydrogen) bombs and any airplanes that could deliver them." There is no reason why the Americans should be panicky over the fact that the Russians do have the H-bomb although, of course, it does present a continuing problem that must be realistically recognized." Wilson's was the latest of a series of official and semi-official statements about Russia and the H-bomb, some of them contradictory to the point of absolute confusion. The secretary thought the Russians as of now could not start and win a war. Judge of Newport Beach Judicial District Court will leave Saturday a vacation to the midwest which may extend to Nov. 12 as his first vacation in 20 years on the bench. He took time out two years ago to to Indiana for a bus which he drove back here for Newport Harbor Union High school, which he serves as president of the board of trustees. The program, submitted by County Manager Arthur J. Will, would follow final approval of a new fiscal plan which calls for a 25-year lease of the property by the Hollywood Bowl Asan.
