Any word defined in the text under "HORIZONTAL" will be given at its number, shown on the diagram, and will extend all the way across to the first black space to the right of that number. That is, the word must begin in the square that contains its identifying number, and extend as far as the white squares continue uninterruptedly.

Samuel M. Vauclain of Philadelphia, president of the Baldwin Locomotive Works, cannot take single little "nip" before his sixth birthday on May 18 with forefitting $10,000. On his eighth anniversary he was able his private car in Texas with W. Garrett, now dead. A. B. Goble St. Louis, and R. A. Hoyt Houston. All three guests officials of the Baldwin company By the terms of a "dry" agreement they signed they agreed to for large amounts if they took a d within the borders of the United States within a year. Vauclain was to forfeit $10,000 and end the others $1,000; the money used for charitable purposes.

STATE ATTACKS PURDY DEFENSE
TULSA, Okla., April 10—State attorneys made plans today to attack weak spots in the defense of Eugene Purdy, Tulsa church deacon, on trial for the murder of E. S. Hutchison, his wealthy rival in love.
The state will center its rebuttal attack on the defense story of the alleged deal by which Purdy waived all claim on the affections of his young wife for $60,000.
Purdy wound up the defense case yesterday afternoon with his own story of the killing of Hutchinson.

WINSLOW, Ariz., April 10—John Cavaggio, 19, drove to his death near here in a racing machine which bore the number 13. Cavaggio was killed outright at a sharp curve when his mount or-erturned.
