SOCIETY
CLUB RECEIVES MESSAGE FROM ABSENT MEMBER
THE Misses Viola Lensing and Hildegarde Bruegmann entertained the Doolittle club last evening at the prytly new home of the former. Among the greatest pleasures of the evening was reading a letter from a former member, Mrs. Ida Schaeffler Twitchell, who now resides near Portland, Ore. This, of course, was much enjoyed as Mrs. Twitchell was one of the most popular members of the club.
Officers were chosen for the next year, with Miss Schaeffler elected president and Mrs. Ralph Barnes vice president. Hearts was the chosen game in which Miss Katherine Van Booven was winner and was awarded with the picture, "The End of the Trail." Mrs. Harold Larsen received consolation.
The Easter motif was the favored one furthered in the two-course luncheon serve late in the evening.
Members present included the Mesdames George Carlson, Alvin Swanson, Ralph Barnes and Harold Larsen and the Misses Lucy Ruettgers, Leona and Katherine Van Booven, Helen Jordon, Eunice Rainey, Elisa Stefena, Lydia Herbel, Katherine Huarte, Eleanore Quill, Katie Deverell, Martha Schaeffler and the hostesses, Viola Lensing and Hildegarde Bruegmann and Mrs. Bernard Lensing.

Old Time Friends Visit
Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Shoemaker entertained a trio of interesting guests Sunday at their home, 739 North Claudina-st. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. McDonnell, whom the Shoemakers had not seen since they went to Boise, Idaho, as a bride and groom 13 years ago, and Miss Edith Sbern, who is visiting her cousin, a member of a Hollywood motion picture company were the visitors.
Following a delicious dinner all went for a motor trip over the county, and upon returning home passed the time in music. Mr. McDonnell is a violinist of ability and a member of the Shrine orchestra in Los Angeels.
The day was a very happy one and many were the jolly remembrances and news of the old-time friends recounted. The McDonnells are now residents of Hollywood and the friends plan many a pleasant visit during the summer.
Evening Chicken Dinner

MUCH BUSINESS HOLDS EBELL IN LONG SESSION
A SESSION chock full of interest held Anaheim Ebell club meeting a full hour longer than the stipulated period yesterday. Besides the excellent program important business matters claimed attention, with the president, Miss E. Kate Rea, in the chair.
Two splendid addresses, one by Col. Wellington, Santa Ana, on "World Peace and International Relations," and the other, by Prof. R. W. Borst, of Fullerton junior college, on "Tendencies in Modern Literature," were presented under auspices of the Literary section, which was in charge of entertainment of the afternoon.
The Misses Elizabeth Schwainest, Sarah Fay, Lovenia O'Toole and Prudence Seitz "put on" in their usual successful manner the farce, "The Ladies Speak at Last," which was a burlesque of four Shakespearian heroines. The girls have presented the act on several occasions and never fail to get a hearty hand.
The most important matter of business, perhaps, was the nominating committee's report. Election will occur next month.
For president, the Mesdames J. P. Wilson, C. S. O'Toole and H. N. White, with Miss E. Kate Rea nominated from the floor. The committee had not submitted her name in deference to her expressed wish. Miss Rea will be unable to accept any office in the club during the coming year.
Mr. G. Peck, Mrs. J. W. Harpster, Mrs.V.W. LaMont were reported for vice president; the Mesdames V.D.Loly, J.C.Schumacher and J.P.' Probat, second vice president; Mrs.Vincent Bruce, recording secretary; Mrs.Genevieve Hapgood, financial secretary; treasurer, Mrs.Mary E.Coons; Miss Frances Backs, treasurer, Mrs.C.W.Austin, curator; Mrs.Nellie E.Terry, parliamentarian; Mrs.C.C.Randall, librarian; Mrs.T.S.Grimshaw,historian.

The hotel has sent inquiries to 13,000 women's clubs. The local club took a rising vote against the practice, which is to the approval of the hotel management. This hostelry was opened three years ago in the capitol city and has been successful far beyond expectations when the doors were opened.
The next meeting will be in compliance to Mothers, with an appropriate program. This will be held in hotel Angelina and light lunches of sandwiches and coffee will be served.

NEW GYM CLASS
The fondest hopes of Miss Irene Jacques were well realized late evening when 50 women answered her invitation to meet in the gym to organize into classes for gymnasium training.
That class fills a long furlong want in Anaheim was apparent from several local women reported that have been attending similar classes in Fullerton and Garden Grove.
Euthusiasm is high and a program of events to take every second of time each Monday night between 7:15 and 9 is being ranged by Miss Jacques. Swimming is one of the proposed activities in which much interest was expressed.
Mrs. E. C. Kendrick was named temporary chairman and Mrs. M. Fay, secretary-treasurer, charged at 75c per month is available to Mrs. Fay. The ladies cided upon regulation gym biosers, blouses and shoes and upon absolute exclusiveness for the first few weeks. Later, however, the ladies will give an exhibition for their daughters and chosen few friends.
Mrs. W. S. Ashleigh conducted a series of games after preliminary arrangements were concluded which resulted in closer acquaintance and sociability. The grand march was lead by Mrs. Kendrick and Miss Paulin Houts, and praised a very pleasant feature of the club.

CHESSUM SPEAKS
TO HI-Y CLUB
George Chessum, secretary of San Mateo-co Y. M. C. A., addressed the Hi-Y club here last evening. Always an impressive speaker, the fact that Chessum was formerly Y. M. C. A. leader in this county and had been in car with some of the boys, made his address the more forceful. He emphasized the purpose of the Hi-Y club to create, maintain and extend thruout school and community high standards of Christian character.
Jonn H. Rudd, new director of the Y. M. C. A., yesterday accompanied a committee of boys to request Warren Ashleigh to continue as leader of the Hi-Y club. Ashleigh consented to do this. This will permit Secretary Rudd to give more time to other phases of Y work.
