WOODCRAFT
CELEBRATES
NATAL DAY
It was a jolly birthday party held last evening by Neighbors of Woodcraft, in Odd Fellows hall, in celebration of the 28th anniversary of Pacific Jurisdiction of the order. Regular business claimed a large part of the evening, particularly initiation of four candidates, all active Woodman, who found the goat of that order a very hard rider. Reversing the usual order of initiating one and administering the oath to the others, all were taken through at a time and it was well, for it is familiarly known that "Misery lores company." fully tucked his radio under arm fully tucked his ardio under arm as he left for lodge and programs from several stations were enjoyed.
The company was later invited into the banquet room where cake and coffee were served. The cake and coffee were served. The cake was a great big one with 38 red and green candles, colors of the order, twinkling and glittering approval of the scene as the 55 guests marched into the room lighted only by their glow. It was encircled with flowers and ferns and ropes of greenery trailed the table from head to foot.
The Woodcraft order is looking forward to the big social affair they will stage in consultation with Woodmen of the World lodges of Prattton and Anahiem in two weeks. Committees are appointed and an entertaining program is in preparation and refreshments will be served.
Interest in Service
The rival meetings being conducted at the Nazarene Tabernacle by Evangelist S. M. Lehman are increasing in interest and attendance. A good crowd was present last night to hear Rev. Lehman as he spoke from the subject, "It is time to seek the Lord." Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Skiles sang "The Way of Holiness."
Rev. Lehman in speaking last night said "it is time that we as a nation began to seek the Lord. We may boast of advancement in science, education and invention, we may point with pride to the growth of our nation in wealth and power, but these alone will not make the stars and stripes secure. Our republic was built upon faith in God and it is time that we be aroused when the teaching of materialistic evolution is undermining this faith, when the greatest increase in divorce is wrecking our homes and when eleven states of the union have laws for bidding reading of the Bible in the public schools." In closing his talk Rev. Lehman made the application personal and showed the importance of each individual seeking the Lord.
Tonight Rev. Lehman speaks from the subject "Puncturing Seventeen Excuses."

The Ald society and Missionary meeting was held yesterday at the home of Miss Eleanor Parke 509 West Broadway, which terminated in a joyous social event. The date was the 77th birthday anniversary of Mrs. Louise Noth who makes her home with Mrs. Parker, and celebration was planned.
Rev. Eliger gave one of his excellent illustrated talks on home as referred to in the Scripture Other numbers brought the hour late afternoon and the surprise. The societies ordinarily serve coffee cake and tea but seven kinds of sandwiches and real cakes made especially for the birthday formed a special treat which more than delighted the honoree. Messages of congratulation we heaped upon her and the meeting ended in an impromptu birthday party.
The missionary department much enthused over the program in its work and is planning a special mission service to be held near date.

Memorial Day Plans
Annual Church Meeting
The annual meeting of the Placentia Presbyterian church was held on Thursday evening, at 6:30 the annual dinner was served, nearly 200 were present at this meeting, the reports of the different organizations were very encouraging, each department showed progress, a number of new activities were organized during the year, among the young people, among them two girl reserve clubs, several musical organizations, and the Presbyterian Bible class with a membership of over 50.
The Sunday school increased nearly one hundred per cent, and is still growing, there was a gain in membership and the church treasury showed a fine balance after all bills were paid, the budget for the next year is arranged for, there was a fin spirit throut the meeting, and the outlook for the coming year is very hopeful.
A number will be received into church on Easter Sunday.
Mr. Avion Basten was elected elder and Mrs. Fred Woodson was nwly elected elder. Mr. Andrew Ipsen is the superintendent of th Sunday school for another year, ths being his eighth term.
The pastor Dr. G. A Manshardt is entering upon his third year with the Placentia church.
Mission's Good Report
The Mesdames Herbert Oelke, J. H. Markle and W. N. Palmer were hostesses yesterday to the Flower Mission of the Presbyterian church at the home of Mrs. Oelke. During the business session members reported 86 calls and 21 bouquets to the sick and the shutins.
Twenty-three members and one guest, Mrs. T. H. Walker, were at the meeting. The organization maintains a nursery at the morning church service each week, two of the members volunteering to take charge of th little folks who accompany their parents. The children receive the best of care and seem to enjoy their hour at church in their way quite as well as the mothers who may hear the sermon with undivided interest.
Te next meeting will be with Mrs. Oscar Renner early in May.

Bares More Detail
Miss Irene Jacques, after having been convinced that she will not be prosecuted for keeping the now famous gymnasium mystery a secret, has consented to reveal many interesting details.
"Yes," she said. "I have decided to speak frankly about this matter. The first meeting will be held Monday night, April 6. Following a short business meeting there will be a few informal games and a chance to get acquainted."
"Yes, every woman will have a chance to revert to childhood—ladies may come barefoot if they choose; Miss Jacques continued." "Dolls are strictly forbidden, however, as well as kid-dies cars, for we want no fastidious little girls in our group. Everyone is urged to come prepared for these games. The outfits may be anything convenient. One lady has inquired if bungalow aprons will be suitable and another has announced her intention of wearing a bathing suit. Variety is the spice of life and therefore nothing will be barred. (Use care in pronunciation.)"
"I advise every woman to come at 7 o'clock, Monday night and join the class if she wishes to become younger, more beautiful and wholly fairy-like."

REAL VODE BILL AT CALIFORNIA
Five very clever and classy acts in vaudeville are at the California theater tonight and Saturday in conjunction with Johnnie Hines in its latest thrill comedy, "The Speed Spook."
"La Vern and Seven Syncopators" in "Syncopating Meiodies" is offering that for real good entertainment can't be beat. These seven young chaps are all solo artists and have an individuality in cutting over their numbers that ensure them a wonderful reception.
"The Flying Howards" present Aerial Thrills a series of breath taking stunts on rings and trapez that is as billed chuck full of thrills and sensations.
"Mills and Trevor" in their multivoking skit, "Oh, Elmer," is a pleasing offering that is full of snap and jollity.
"Joe Delvin and Co." in "Musical Moments" is another of those ever pleasing surprise acts which is a little out of the ordinary from most vaudeville presentations. They have a rapid fire line of conversation (that is new and original) "Bell and Bedell" in their offering, "A Novelty Surprise", have incorporated some very skillful tricks of wire walking and balance. It is not only thrilling but also very entertaining.
Crashing, smashing and ploughing its way through the stone wall of an arsenal, an armoured tan such as was used in the World War is seen in "The Speed, Spook" the feature photoplay at the Californias for Friday and Saturday with Johnnie Hines in the reading role.
"The Speed Spook" aside from its thrilling sequence offers a most unusual amount of thrills with its record breaking automobile race and the highly exciting exploits of a driverless car that sends the townsfolks of Westwood into a state of freenzy and fear.
There has never been a story like this. Never so much hectic excitement crammed into six reels of action and laughs. There has never been so many thrills of the unusual kind, and never has Johnnie Hines had such a ideal role as that which he carries to perfection in "The Speed Spook."
A story of the U.S. navy, "The Shake Down Cruise" an Acosop Fable and special music by Geo. E. Turner, concert organist completes the program.
