TIME TO WATCH FOR WALNUT PEST
A. A. BROCK
Horticultural Commissioner
Preparations should be made by walnut growers to take care of insect problems. Some trees are coming out and we know that with first appearance of leaves, we find our old enemy, walnut aphis, requires special attention for successful control. In addition, we should be ready to combat codlin-mother at first appearance. The best way to determine what will be necessary to control codlin-moth is to determine by careful inspection number of pupa cases in rough hark. If you find larvae and pupa numerous, it is pretty safe to say there will be infestation of sufficient importance to warrant special control measures. Of course, a truer index is an inspection of the leaves and walnuts are peak of egg-laying season. This is, in Orange-co, latter part of May or first of June and if eggs are numerous upon foliage and walnuts, spray should be applied just before they hatch so young larvae will, in eating way into walnut, obtain sufficient amount of poison to kill.
thorow application of neutral arsenite is known control is a senate of lead, two pounds to 5 gallons of water. To this should be added nicotine sulphate at rate of one part nicotine to 1500 parts water for control of walnut aphis.
If orchard is infested with aphis but you feel it unnecessary to spray for Codlin-moth, then dust with two per cent nicotine will control aphis and can be applied in a very short time and with less expense. A good many growers have also used arsenate of lead in dust form for control of Codlin-moth. This consists of combination dust two per cent nicotine
KEOGH PLAYERS WILL COME SOON
Keogh Players, high-class comedy company, will make their first appearance in this city Tuesday and Wednesday of next week at the United theatre, in a sparkling two-act comedy, "A Hickville Elopement." The Keogh Players come from the east highly recommended, having been connected with such producing managers as Joe Webber of the team of Webber and Fields, Dave Lewis, who starred in many of the best comedies, "The Royal Chef," "Isle of Spice," "Don't Lie to Your Wife" and "September Morning."
This troupe of happy comedians will offer something novel to the patrons of this popular playhouse, in good snappy comedy drama with high class vaudeville. The cast is composed of Alphonse Vandwynkie, James J. Craig, Ora Francis, Francis Keogh and John F. Keogh.
The ladies of this city will be given a treat on Tuesday night, being admitted for half the regular adult admission, which will be 30 cents. Ladies will be admitted for 15 cents that night.

You're wrong about the women folk. Their sense of humor is not poor. For if they couldn't take a joke — there'd be more single men. I'm sure!
