DAILY GREETING TO OUR READERS
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits; who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all they diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction.—Psalm 103:2-4.
The bright hours pass like birds on pinions golden.
And leave their empty nests in Memory's halls;
And in the past, with all its mysteries olden,
Obligion, like a twilight, o'er them falls
They have sweet songs to cheer, they have glad voices,
Their flashing wings like flaming sunbeams burn;
But, ah! even while the listening car rejoices,
They speed away and never more return
—Ernest W Shurtleff.
ARIZONA ABOUT TO JOIN
COLORADO PACT
The Arizona Legislature seemingly is about to ratify the Colorado River compact, which has been accepted by the six other states lying in the Colorado River Basin. The fate of this pact has been hanging in the balance, so far as Arizona is concerned, for a long time. There has been opposition to the ratification of the compact, on the ground that Arizona's interests were not being safeguarded sufficiently. But the longer the question is debated and pondered, the more convincing does it become to Arizona that their state should ratify and not stand in the way of instituting this great project for the control of the flood waters in the Colorado, and useful allocation of water and power among the several states in the Colorado basin. It will require a long time to build the proposed dam, even after it is started. And to delay the starting of the great work seems folly, in view of the imperative need of flood control, conservation of flood waters and development of hydro electric power.

The Colorado River is destined to become of stupendous usefulness to the Southwest. Each and every state and portion of this Southwest should appreciate the great advantages of its development, and should give aid and encouragement. Action from the federal government waits upon the acceptance of the compact by all the states. Arizona is the only holdout. The sister commonwealth soon may follow the example of California and other states of the Colorado Basin. Then united efforts could be put forth to get early affirmative action from Congress.

HEALTH & DIET ADVICE
By Dr. Frank McCoy
Author of "THE FAST WAY TO HEALTH"
PROTEID FOOD (Continued)
NOT SO GOOD
NUTS are a form of proteid recommended mostly by vegetarians as a substitute for meat. I have made many experiments in a endeavor to use nuts in place of the meat products, but have never yet been able to find that I could get any more satisfactory results with patients than if they lived on pork, salmon, lobster, and others in the "Not so Good" class. Most nuts have a very high percentage of fat, and I am of the opinion that this interests with the proteid digestibility. If they are used in place of meat it will take several hours longer for the stomach to digest the meal and get the material completely into the intestines. This involves a waste of energy without a gain of anything in particular far as I have been able to discover.
Nuts may, however, occasionally be substituted for meat in order to add variety to the diet. Peanuts, cocoanut, and chestnuts should not be considered in the proteid class, as they contain such large amount of starch and so small a quantity of proteid.
ROCOQUEFORT CHEESE is quite a strong tasting cheese, and would not be relished if enough of it were used to supply the meat element in the meal. For those in good health who are very fond of this cheese, a very small portion may be used with a piece of water cracker, as an after dinner delicacy. But, remember, only very small portion should be taken and not more than one small hard water-cracker, or a small piece of toast.
CATFISH OR MACKEREL are two fish that are not good for anyone with weakened digestive ability, as they contain such a large percentage of fat.

He is well known thru Orange-co as a pioneer in the oil industry and still retains valuable holdings here.
A group of friends were invited to listen-in over the radio at the home of Mrs. J. Campbell the feature of the evening was the grand opera which was being broadcasted.
The Essences club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howell Denton for an afternoon of cards and a social time. The favored game was Bridge and several tables were filled. The Denton home was tastefully decorated with fresh spring flowers and delicious refreshments were served to the guests during the afternoon.

MURDER SUSPECTS GRILLED AGAIN
SAN DIEGO, March 4.—Thos. A. Johnson and Hugh McGovern, Chicagoans, held pending investigation of the murder of George Byrnes, or Frank J. Harrington, were subjected to another gruel-in examination today by Captain of Defectives Paul Hayes with hones of breaking down their assortments that they knew nothing of. Byrnes met his end.
Having gained the admission from Johnson that two of the three revolvers found in his residence in San Marcos ave here where he and McGovern were arrested Monday belong to him. Hayes announced he was satisfied with his interrogation so far and felt confident that he would wring more valuable and condemning statements from the day is over. Hayes also resolved today that one of guns of which Johnson adults ownership had been fired recently and that examination of the bullet taken from Byrnes brain showed it had been fired from the Johnson gun. The other revolver, Hayes said, was dented about the built and several strands of human hair hanging to it.
That Johnson's Chicago address was the Atlantic hotel was gained from him by the officers last night and was established by the fact the several receipts showing Johnson had stayed there during January of this year were found among his effects. McGovern said his Chicago residence had been 511 Fifth-first-st.
"Other than Johnson admitting the ownership of two of the revolvers found the men refuse to say anything, damaging," Hayes stated. "In reply to all question but to them they simply say they will not talk at this time. However I have not finished questioning them."
COMMENTS OF THE PRESS
What Editors Are Saying
BARRING NATION'S BACK DOOR—San Bernardino Sun:
Secretary of Labor Davis would shut the back door of the country and permit no passage inward through it with the legend: "No assistance without a pass." That is a sign Secretary Davis would be erected all along the thousands of miles which constitute the boundary lines between the United States and Mexico on the south of Canada on the north. He has so recommended in his annual report and is trying to push legislation to accomplish it. This is not being done in a spirit of hostility to those countries or their people, or to a desire to keep them out of our own country, but for the purpose of putting an end to bootlegging immigrants, as he phrases it.
To do this he would place all the American States on the same ratio we apply to the rest of the world. According to his estimate hundreds of thousands of aliens not nationalis of either Canada or Mexico, entered the United States across these boundary lines during the year ending June 30, 1924. The quotas of their native hands become exhausted, they took passage to Canadian or Mexican ports and entered our back doors as citizens of those countries. If our quota law was applied to our neighbors, their governments would see that the benefit of it was reaped by their own citizens and not by aliens. That there has been considerable back door immigration of this sort is quite true, but it can not have reached anything like the great numbers reported by the secretary, simply because there has not been sufficient steamer transportation to the ports north and south of us to have created such a volume.
However, it is true enough, that through such a channel the average character and desirability of immigrants entering this country must be much lower than should in the future be the case under the selective principle of our new law, provided it is applied with intelligent discretion inspired with a desire for the public welfare on the part of our representatives abroad to whom is intrusted power of issuing certificates. They can be really selective and give us only the best; or they can be merely perfunctory and certify who apply until the quota is filled and then abruptly shut the door, as has been the custom in the past. We have under the new law, especially if extended to include our near neighbors as the secretary recommends, the power to choose the very best of those who want to come to live with us, and we should do it.
