EGGS LOWER BUT FLOUR IS HIGHER
More vegetables from growers in the vicinity of Anaheim than have reached the local markets this season, and a good many more than a year ago at this time are being offered today, according to G. E. Kitchen. The stuff is of excellent quality, also.
Prices have been declining.
The quantity of eggs offered also has been increasing with warmer weather, and prices are five or six cents below last year at this time. Prices of Los Angeles for the best eggs here is 29 cents today, another cut. Other eggs are costing the retailer 27 1-2 cents.
Higher wheat—tho wheat has been declining somewhat from its peak—has resulted in a steady top price for flour, which at $11 per 100 compares with $7.20 or thereabouts a year ago at this time.
Pink beans are due for a rise tomorrow and raisins are coating the retailer 3-4 of a cent more.

NO. CALIF. FRUIT FROST DAMAGED
With resumption of orange shipments on a large scale, the Anaheim packing house managers are watching with growing interest the conditions of various competing crops on the coast.
One of these is valencias of the No. Calif. orange belt, which have suffered considerably from frost again. This section ships around 2500 carloads if the crop is normal, and is a market factor worth thinking about. During one recent season the northern belt shipped almost no fruit.
Another competing fruit is apples. The apple crop also was hit by frost, and was at first reported to be only half normal. Already apples, like oranges, are inclined to rise to higher levels. High priced apples mean a better market for oranges, which can be sold frequently more cheaply.

PROFESSOR NOODLES
Dear Professor:
Who first conceived the valentine—that symbol of sweet love divine, the message of the heart? I'm filled with curiosity, and wish you would enlighten me—how did this custom start?
Yvonne
The valentine, in days gone by, was chiseled by the love-sick guy—he carved it on a rock. And then he dragged it to the dame, and after taking careful aim, he bounced it on her block. But now they make the valentine with lacy frills and flowers that twine, and hearts that interlock." It's only when engaged to-day, that girls prefer the ancient way—they then demand a rock!
