CALUMPIT CAMP
OFFICERS BUSY
Calumpit Camp No. 28, Department of California, United Spanish War Veterans, held one of its regular meetings in the K.P. Hall Santa Ana, last Tuesday night. Not much routine business was conducted but much time was taken up with reports of officers and committees of partially conducted affairs.
Patriotic Instructor R. H. Lee made glowing reports of progress on the program of the spreading out of the Flag Etiquette by the Spanish War Veterans and the American Legion.
Chas. E. Dixon, the Camp Historian read the second chapter of the History he is writing of Calumpit Camp.
Motions were made, seconded and carried, for the purchase of six old style, Springfield rifles so that the Camp could conduct military funerals in the proper manner. Comraded M.C. Copeur and Chas. E. Dixon, appointed to assist the Chaplain in the Memorial Day program, Chas. E. Chatino, E. E. Patner and Chas. E. Dixon to frame and send telegrams supporting the Bursaunt Bill, and Forrest Gay a receipt for two years paid up dues for meritorious services to the Camp.
The Patriotic Societies of Santa Ana, packed the Supervisorial Chambers with their committees, Tuesday morning, and presented eight petitions from that number of Patriotic Societies for the Board of Supervisers to provide a Patriotic Hall as a Memorial to the Soldiers of the several wars, and to be dedicated to the use of the Patriotic Societies of Orange co.
After the petitions had been read by the clerk, Chairman Talbert asked for remarks. Each society was represented by a speaker who presented the matter from the standpoint of that organization.
Fear Children on Way to Mexico
Authorities are looking for Bernardino Aparejo of Placentia, alleged to be fleeing toward Mexico with three of his four children, their ages ranging from 2 to 7. The charge of kidnapping was issued on complaint of Cerilla Raya, admitted common law wife of the fugitive.
Aparicio, it is claimed, is rightfully or wrongly married to two other women, one of whom lives at La Habra and from whom he was estranged about eight years ago. At that time he went to live with Miss Raya, then 13 years old, she told the authorities, and to this union four children were born.
Then the prolific wooer 'broke' with his third affinity. She kept the children and he paid for their support until a month ago. Saturday he appeared at her house in Placentia, she told officers, and stated he would take the kiddies for a ride, buy them candy and find them new clothes. The mother claims he never returned, and she fears he is headed toward Mexico, where another wife lives.

Tuesday morning, and presented
eight petitions from that number of Patriotic Societies for the Board
of Supervisers to provide a Patriotic Hall as a Memorial to the Soldiers
of the several wars, and to be dedicated to the use of the Patriotic Societies of Orange-co.
After the petitions had been read by the clerk, Chairman Talbert asked for remarks. Each society was represented by a speaker who presented the matter from the standpoint of that organization.
Many questions were asked by the supervisors and considerable discussion arose over ways and means. The supervisers were favorable to the proposition of a Patriotic Hall and a Resolution favoring it was passed by them but left the question of providing funds an open one for the present.
The committees were in charge of Chas. E. Dixon, department inspector, of the Spanish War Veterans, who is chairman of the committees for a patriotic hall.
That the supervisors would take the action they did was expected by the various Soldier Societies and now it remains for a decision as to the method of raising the necessary funds. Section 4041 F Page 1141, of the Political Code, contains at act approved, May 18, 1921, authorizes county boards of supervisers to provide patriotic halls in three ways: To levy a tax of three mills on the dollar, to appropiate from the general fund or to bond the county.
It was stated that the general fund would not take care of the proposition in the fiscal year, that a three mills tax would raise about $45,000.00 but that a bond issue would be the quickest method.
The means employed will be taken under advisement by the board; meanwhile, the patriotic people can feel that their battle has been partially won and victory is in sight.

WITH SERVICE COURTESY
Gas Service--Not GAS
We speak of various kinds of service, mail service, train service, telephone service. Why not Gas Service?
Gas Service is what you buy, use and pay for, not merely the GAS.
Gas without service is a mere vapor. With the service rendered by your company it becomes the finest of fuels—clean, reliable and economical. And what's more it is ready when you want it.
The term "gas bill" is misleading. It should be "bill for gas service."
