RELIGION IN ENGLAND STUNTED LONDON, Feb 3.—England is faced with a recrudescence of paganism, in the opinion of the Right Rev. Guy P. Warman, Bishop of Chelmsford and noted writer and publicist on religious questions. In an address to a recent clerical congress here, the bishop averred that the country, in addition to being faced with an era of paganism, was also faced to some extent with the failure of its Church. "The World War," he told his audience, "has changed the whole situation in England. Although it is possible to exaggerate the extent of this change, we know that there has settled on the community a profound discontent with things as they are at present and a restless, inchoate longing to put them right. "The great mass of the people of England," he continued, "have either considered and found no use for religion or they have accepted the opinion of others that it is useless. The reason for this is to be seen partly in the failure and incapacity of the Church and partly in the materialistic methods in the life of the world. "Marriage is a problem—or is postponed. Money is scarce. Unemployment seems to have become permanent. The struggle for existence is fiercer than ever, and the result is immorality, immersion in pleasures and callous materialism. "The pagan gods are fighting for their own again, and they seem to be fighting with the odds" in their favor." FIND BRITONS UNFIT FOR ARMY LONDON, Feb. 9.—The rising generation of Britishers is becoming weedier and weedier, in the opinion of army recruiting officials. Recent official recruiting statistics show that of every hundred men who try to enter the British army 82 are now being regularly rejected as physically unfit, or double the percentage of those re-entering the World War. ASK CONFIRMATION OF CHAS. B. WARREN WASHINGTON, Feb. 12.—President Coolidge today called on the administration forces of the senate to wage a finish fight for confirmation of Chas. B. Warren of Detroit as attorney general. This was the message carried to the senate by Senator Cummins. Rep. of Iowa, after an hour's conference with the president at the White House. The president was reported to have ignored all attacks on Warren's connection with anger interests and to have demanded the right to name his own choice for cabinet posts. He was said to be willing to assume all responsibility for Warren's fitness and to be vigorously opposed to withdrawal of the appointment. WASHINGTON, Feb. 12.—The difficulties confronting administration forces in the senate where efforts to seek confirmation off Charles Boecher Warren as attorney general were outlined to President Coolidge today by Senator Cummins. Rep. of Iowa, chairman of the judiciary committee. Atty. Gen. Stone also took part in the conference. THEY'VE ALWAYS PESTERED HUMANS Speaking of fleas, a German savant, rumors run, has just discovered a flea with a birth certificate of 3,000 years ago! Dr. Damps, of the University of Grenoble, has also recently come across a flea fossil which wasn't born yesterday. It was in a piece of amber in the Baltic Sea. And everyone must remember the little flea which was preserved through long ages in the bottom of an Egyptian tomb. And so the Egyptians had even more than their golden charms and fabulous temples," says Louis Forrest in Le Matin. "So they scratched a little tool! There is always some flea in the ciment." According to R. L. Loueks, engineer in charge, the last length of tile will be laid in a few days. Prof. W. W. Weir, drainage engineer from the College of Agriculture, with the county agricultural agent, will conduct an educational tour to point out some of the important features of construction. The growers will assemble at Blankenbeckler's corner, West Fifth and Buaro-rd, at 9:30 am., Saturday. Representatives from the other ten drainage districts in the county will be on hand to witness the completion of construction. A crop map of the Newhope district, which has recently been completed, will be shown to the growers. This map was made at the request of the directors of the Newhope district for the purpose of watching the development of orchard crops in the district following drainage reclamation. A similar map will be completed five years from date to draw a comparison. It is better to have an ounce of wisdom than a hundredweight of muscle. PROFESSIONAL Phones—1169J; Office 207 Dr. Walter R.
