Japanese lying in foreign countries sent more money back to Japan in 1924 than ever before in the history of the nation, according to officials of the Yokohama Specle Bank, through which a majority of the remittances are made. The total amount received in Japan from the Japanese in other countries during 1924 was approximately 16,000,000. The best previous year was 1919, when expatriated Japanese sent about $13,000,000 to the homeland. Of the amounts received this year, Japanese living in North America sent more than $10,000,000. Japanese in the British Empire sent $2,000,000; in Brazil, $1,400,000; in Chile, $1,200,000 in Peru, $400,000; in Argentina $75,000; while an additional $800,000 came from other parts.
