ITALY MAY SEE
CONFLICT SOON
LONDON, Jan. 5.—Private advices from Italy today said that the internal situation there was extremely serious, with both Fascists and anti-Fascists in the smaller towns aroused to a high pitch.
Conflicts are likely to break out at any moment and the police do not know what course to follow. These advisers said. Large numbers of police stood by and watched the Fascist wreck the Nuovo Glorionale, a newspaper of Florence, fearing to take a stand against the mob.
It is reported Mussolini plans a stand against the mob.
It is reported Mussolini plans to create a directory of three—himself and two generals—and impose martial law as a means of bringing order to Italy, but this is believed unlikely, at least at present.
There were evidences in London today that the heavy censorship in Italy is being maintained, if not tightened. News of the troubles there is subject to long delays in transmission.
ROME, Jan. 5.—Premier Benito Mussolini today stood in the position of a man who has staked all on one throw of the dice.
With a strong show of Fascist force and a continued campaign of suppression and confiscation of the opposition press, he was attempting to "clear the situation in 48 hours" as he promised, using the identical methods which swept Fascism into power in 1922.
To his friends, to the Fascist press, and to independent newspapers his action was the only alternative or a great leader who had done his best to conciliate his enemies and had met with continued rancor.
To his enemies, the partial mobilization of the black shirts and the ruthless confiscation of opposition newspapers were a final dramatic gesture of a leader whose popularity was waning.
There was little doubt that the position of the Fascist administration would be weakened.
Fascism into power in 1922.
There was little doubt that the position of the Fascist administration was considerably weakened and the demonstration of power somewhat bedimmed by the resignation of Gino Sarrochl, minister of public works, and Senator Casati, minister of education, who with the ministers of war and navy, were the sole remaining members of the cabinet who were not Fascists.
But the Fascist premier met this with immediately appointment of two other liberal deputies to the cabinet.
The accession from the black shirt party of former Premier Salandra also came at an loppet time for Mussolini.
"I have lost faith in Fascism," Salandra said. "My work for the past two years to insert Fascism into the normal life of the country has been destroyed."
To offset these adverse terms however, Mussolini today had the delirious approval of the Fascist newspapers, who pleaded with him to continue the renewal of force against the administration's enemies and consider the steps taken so far as only the preliminaries in the "restoration of tranquility to Italy."
It was believed a decree would be forthcoming soon, declaring that all deputies who do not attend sessions of parliament would be deprived of their seats. The boycott had been the weapon of opposition deputies and their means of showing their disapproval of "Mussolini despotism."
Mussolini practically has placed Italy on a basis of modified martial law, with the strictest orders for suppression of anti-Fascist organizations, special militia guarding the railway stations and the Fascist prefects authorized to mobilize the black shirt militia.
Fascist claim the opposition had planned to create a state of anarchy by disorganizing the railways. They claim a plot was discovered to burn the railway stations and say attempts to carry out were made in some parts of the country.
The government has ordered the dissolution of the Italia Libera Assn., composed of former soldiers who are opposed to Fascism.
Still, if there were no strangers on whom would people practice good manners?

WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 — France's much heralded "proposition" for the funding of her $4,000,000,000 war debt to the United States, was officially realized today as only an empty gesture, which for the present does not afford a suitable basis on which serious funding negotiations can be begun.
The communication which Amassador Herrick forwarded to the state department over the weekend and was not addressed to the American government nor did it come from the French government, but was a "personal memorandum" from Finance Ministerlementel which contained no definite or concrete suggestions for payment.

FULLNESS OF GOD SERMON SUBJECT
The necessity of not only being justified but also of being sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost was emphasized Sunday afternoon at the Undenominational Church of the Lord (Holliness) 511 No. Olive-st, by Rev. Jesse N Blakeley, pastor.
Rev. Blakeley preached from Ephesians 3:19: "That ye might be filled with all the fullness of God." He said that the fulness of God means the indwelling of the Holy Ghost in the human soul with all His gifts and graces, after that soul has been justified and cleansed from sin. He brot out that a soul is not a candidate for the Holy Ghost until he was clear witness that his sins are forgiven, and then that the Spirit must point out the carnal natures one by one and that soul must be thoroughly cleansed before he can exercise faith to receive the Spirit into his soul.
He said that a soul might be sanctified and not receive the filling of the Spirit, that to receive the Holy Ghost you must have asked the Father for Him, and must exercise faith to receive Him (Luke 11:13; John 6:24).
The morning sermon was preached by Miss Eleanor Henghan, assistant pastor, from II Corr. 4:19, on the Spirit of faith.
