NOTRE DAME HAS PLENTY OF “PEP”
SADENA, Dec. 31.—In fine time and showing a superabundance of pep that would turn the heat of the most energetic “go-go” salesman green with envy, the Dame’s famous team reached today from temporary quarters in Tueson, Ariz., needed for tomorrow’s tilt at the Bowl against the Stanford ball squad.
Several hundred ardent supporters of the fighting Indiana men were at the station from home and far when Coach Rockne his terrors of the gridiron demanded today and received the ringing reception that has seen or heard in these parts many a year.

Huge Structure For Penna College
PITTSBURGH, Pa., Dec. 27.—One of the largest, most beautiful and most inspiring buildings in this city will be erected next year by the University of Pittsburgh on the fourteen-acre quadrangle facing the entrance to Schenley Park at a cost of $10,000,000. The new building will accommodate 12,000 students. It will be the nucleus of the university and will express Pittsburgh's spirit of achievement, which has been Chancellor John G. Bowman's vision for several years.
Intensive study by business leaders, architects and engineers for the past three years has been given to the plan, and the remarkable design for the structures is the result.
An unusual feature of the proposed university building, which because of its impressive dignity and beauty has been described by enthusiastic friends who have seen the plans as "Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning," is that it will be so located that it may be seen at long distance from each side.
The building will be Gothic in style, will be 360 feet long and 260 feet wide and will be 680 feet high having fifty-two stories reached by 16 elevators.

SPORTS DONE BROWN
BY NORMAN E. BROWN
The spanking of Ban Johnson by the magnates to satisfy Commissioner Landis, appease his wrath and possibly save him to baseball, is history.
Johnson, apparently, has taken his medicine.
But now that it is all over the fans are seeking with a microscope to learn just how the game has been benefited.
They point out, and they may well do so, that it has done nothing toward clearing up the situation which brot about the upheaval, the harsh words, injured feelings and then the losing of the peace dove.
The situation referred to is the attempt of Jimmy O'Connell at the asserted instigation of Cozy Dolan, to bribe Heinle Sands or the Phillies to throw a game to the Giants last fall. They needed the game to land the National League pennant.
Johnson got in bad because no drastic steps as a result of the exposure. He came out frankly in favor of eliminating the Giants.
STANFORD MAY STOP EASTERNERS
By Tom Thorpe
NEW YORK, Dec. 31. Stanford may stop the Notre Dame four horsemen at Pasadena tomorrow. The Pacific Coast collegians have not been even credited for as much football as they know. The East has failed to understand that Harvard was the last team to make the trip across the continent for the Tournament of Roses and win.
Bob Fisher's late won from Oregon in a memorable 19 to 6 battle. Since then every team that has travelled to the pacific Coast for the Pasadena gale has lost. It would not be surprising if Notre Dame followed a general rule tomorrow.
Many believe the trip across the continent has sand the strength of the contestan.
Such is not the case. He climatic conditions in California are not so far different thn those that an eastern or mid-western team would encounter in late October or early November.
So far as travelling is concerned, the Notre Dae team should be well accustomed to the road. No team in this country makes so many extreme trips to so many distant pots as the players that perform Knute Rockne.
The gutter Shawnee was for rum runners. The suction S-9, one of eight being from Ascidia station by the cola, was lost in the foil Shawnee fired five shots the S-9 could indicate hity. Apologies followed a cutter towed in the low marine.
MUSICAL SURPRIZE AT CALIFO
George E. Turner, the organist at the California ranged a big musical sur-tought and New Year's day is a medley of some of them.
MOTHER-IN-LAW IS BLAMED IN SUIT
Blaming her mother-in-law in part for her marital difficulties, easy Lee today bolt suit for divorce in the superior court atanta Ana against Charles Lee of whom she married in Oklahoma three years ago. They went live with Lee's mother, the life avers, adding that after a strain of quarrels, the left and returned to find her husband had taken their baby and was hiding from her.
A two bit trap that prevents two dollars worth of rat depredation isn't a bad investment.
Right or two, escapes from the sheeriff and makes a sensational trip to a shin, usually with Miss Plante aiding and abetting him. Miss La Plante's beauty and charming personality are just fitted to the part.
The cast is splendidly balanced. Mithel Grey Terry plays the wife in the case, and Richard is seen but little, but that little is good. The real husband. Lee Moran offers a refreshing comedy character to the merry gathering and Muriel Frances Dana is seen as a pranksome small daughter whoERRORS and dismays her "Father" with her pranks and mischief.
"The Wolves of the North" will also be seen on this exceptional program, as this is the last episode of the play it will be shown Thursday as Friday and Saturday.

As for an Johnson. He had startling revelations he was going to make. The time for him to have made them was when his sincerity his desire to further the good of the game, were questioned. Johnson, however, kept silent. He has done the game no good by no doing.
If Johnson had facts at hand—damaging evidence that would shake the same to its foundations—he should have laid them be

SHOW HOW GREAT OUTWITS RIVER
One of the cleverest beries on record was quick wit of a bearded telephone girl in "Dear Night," the roaring speed telephone drama by Willim Fox at the theater f. Friday.
Breaking into the air bank at midnight, the ningly unroll and stretch ed canvas behind the cage, with the steel sawn thereon, so that when she the beat looks thru the window he does not disrobe robbers operating on the rear behind the camouflage. Of the robbers fumbles and a telephone receiver off the instantly replacing it, cunning.
That instantaneous white flies was enough to attract the attention of the girl night operator in the little local exchange. With quick womanly intuition, she pocts the situation, calls up bank, gets no answer, then fires the police.
How, sticking to her swimmer board, tho the building calls fire and burns up, she co-openes with a dare-devil telephone man pursuing the midnight motoramauders on a motorcycle and saved by a hair from becoming victim in the flames to her head devotion to duty, provides some of the most sensational sequence ever shown on the silver sheet.
Dainty, alluring Alyce Millis is the little telephone lady and a big cast helps her put over the big whirlwind telephone plot.
MUCH NOVELTY IN NEW PRODUCTION
One of the greatest moments is her latest Paramount production "Wages of Virtue," at the California today and Thursday, is where Gloria Swanson, as Carmelita, gives a vivid interpretation of the famous "dance of the seven veils," for the hard-bitten soldiers of the Foreign Legion.
Swathed from head to foot in golf black veiling, the first veil of the seven over veils of lighter color, she not only proves by the grace and rhythm of her postures that she is an accomplished exponent of the intoxicating beauty of the dance, but enacts a remarkable change of characterization as she ceases to be the exquisite little mother of lost men and becomes the provocative, daring little cafe dancer, striving to amuse the worshipping legionnaires and make them forget the horrible boredom of the Algerian barrack town.
Another incident which is going to set a lot of Gloria Swanson fans puzzling, is how she manages to balance a bottle on nor
