STATE HEAD CONGRESS P-T.A. TO COME HERE AN allday meeting of the Fourth District Congress of Parents and Teachers, meeting in Anaheim high school all day Saturday, Jan. 10, will be the more interesting through the presence of state president, Mrs. Hugh Bradford, of Sacramento, who has notified Mrs. J. Edmund Snow, president of the district organization, of her coning. Mrs. Bradford will give one of her inspiring talks along general lines of P-T-A, work. The local associations, east and west side, will be hostesses of the day, an dwill provide hot rolls, butter, coffee and escalloped potatoes. Everyone attending is asked to bring along one covered dish to complete the luncheon. There will be an attendant in charge of the nursery that mothers bringing small children may be assured of their good care. Other speakers of the day include the Rev. Wilsie Martin, pastor of Hollywood First Methodist church; E. J. Marks, Fullerton, who will explain the import of the Child Welfare amendment. Mrs. W. W. Wilson, of South Pasadena, who is state chairman of Child Welfare, has also been asked to speak. As February 17 is the anniversary of "Founder's Day," suggestions for its observation will be discussed. The date will mark the 28th anniversary of organization of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. Mrs. Snow will preside and it is expected there will be a large representation from all parts of the county. Guest of Clubwoman Mrs. Nellie E. Terry was the guest yesterday of Mrs. Helen Gardner, at a breakfast served in the Biltmore, honoring Mrs. J. T. Anderson, president of the Los Angeles Opera and Fine Arts club. Clever little place cards with a hospitable greeting, surmounted by a Dutch doll head in bright red bonnet, marked the covers, and a gorgeous red rose set in maidenhair fern were given as favors. The company then repaired to Morococo theatre where they witnessed the opera, Hansel and Gretel, presented by the Opera and Fine Arts club with the co-operation of the Women's City club, of which Mrs. Anderson is vice president. The quaint old fairy tale was a civic gift to the community and was the initial presentation of the club in this capacity. Members of the Philharmonic orchestra were under direction of Christian Sprotte and gave hearty support to the numbers, all presented in English. Stage settings and lightings added much to the beauty and effect. Classmates Reunion A reunion of A. U. H. S. class of '05 last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Borth, 797 W. Broadway, called together the members and their "better halves" who are within convenient distance for attending the annual event. Cards provided the interest of the evening, with Mrs. LaMont winning first lady's prize; Mrs. Evans, second; and Mr. Folkers first for the men, with Mr. Skinner, second. Christmas decorations lent their galley to the rooms, including the pretty tree with colored lights and candles. B. AND P. XMAS PARTY LEADS DOOR TO DOOR THE Business and Professionals Women said they reminded themselves of the old fashion hoboes who go from door to door soliciting aims, for every when they were given food and present. The fact was, however, a happy social affair was never conducted, for at each home there was Santa Claus, a delicious menu and oodles of hearty laughs. The party began at the home of the president, Mrs. Helen Hardin who is the personification of charm and hospitality as a hostess. The girls were served with china beans. Mr. Hardin, being the only man present, slavishly (?) took in dishing up the legumes in generous portions, Santa Claus, whose energy was similar to that of M.Callye Sparks, passed out present to a number of the guests—not all of them. Even the smoother of the Harden household would compelled to go 'way back and down, that the girls might use gifts Santa left him, and partially his cherished pogo stick. The next place visited was with Dr. Bessica Raische, where Santa Claus had gone ahead of the girl but his proportions had grown considerably, perhaps from an extra supply of beans served through sympathy of Mr. Hardin, until real "wurklin" men of the evening. Shrimp salad and salath formed a delicious light repast for more gifts were passed out. So telling was the amusement for sure: "Mary had a Little Land was elaborated upon until the famous animal assumed any proportion between that of a flea and a dinosaur." Concluding: the Jaunt at Children Plant Tree "Trees," says Mrs. John D. Sherman, president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs "are our friends. We cannot plant too many of them to take the place of our rapidly disappearing forests, and I know of no ready way to quicken the interest of the small children in trees and their planting, than through the living Christmas tree idea." Carrying out this idea with a pretty ceremony the little sons and daughters of members of the Yorba Linda Woman's club planted a living Christmas tree in a corner of the club grounds as one of the feathers of an enjoyable children's Christmas party for which Mrs. B. M. Selover and Mrs. A. P. Yerington were hostesses. The tree planting was in charge of Mrs. O. J. Dyckman, chairman of the grounds committee, and after the names of the 50 children present had been written on slips of paper and placed in a bottle at the roots of the tree, Miss Marsha Vernon club president, threw the first shovel of earth, and then each child marched past and helped to plant the tree, which it is hoped in coming years will grow into a real community Christmas tree. Formal Club Opening Fullerton Ebell is putting on her best bib and tucker for Friday afternoon and evening when the club will formally open and dedicate the new clubhouse in that city. The regular club meeting will be held in the afternoon at 2:30, with several guests from neighboring clubs, and in the evening all residents within the Fullerton school district will be entertained. Mrs. Kitchen Improving Mrs. George Kitchen, who was very ill following the birth of her daughter at the Anaheim Community hospital, is now recovering rapidly and with the little girl, Jacqueline, will be allowed to return home within a short time. Of course Grandpa and Grandma Kitchen are eagerly awaiting their coming as this is the first grandchild, consequently she is a great favorite. A reunion of A. U. H. Mrs. Borth served light refreshments after the games and another event dear to the hearts of the "old grads" became a matter of history. Attending the pleasant affair were the Messrs and Mesdames V. W. LaMont, Merton Skinner, Leonard Evans, J. O. Schwentker and B. H. Folkers, who were guests of the classmates, and Mr. H. Christensen. Widweek Services There will be short services beginning at 7:30 on Sylvester Eye in Zion Lutheran church, and again on New Year's morning at 10:30. Everyone is invited to the meetings. Yes, we're writing about that Hi School affair last night. More than 150 were present, the most on record. As President Raymond Nebelung declared today, there wouldn't have been tom for any more of the old "grads" in the school cafeteria. Nebelung and the others who have been getting the alumni together again after a complete lapse of meetings for years, were more than delighted. The Hi School jazz orchestra played and L. A. Lewis of '06, gave a speech which might have been entitled "Reminiscences of an Old Time Graduate and What an Alumni Ass'n Should Accomplish." In the latter connection he asserted that more active interest should be taken by the alumni in the school's problems. Alumni should visit the school occasionally; take more interest in the election of trustees, voting for candidates who were themselves alumni and kept in touch with educational affairs. Stella J.
