500 EXPECTED AT REALTY BANQUET
Arrangements have been made to meet 500 guests at the Industrial Conference dinner at the Elk's Club, Dec. 6, Romaine C. Berger, chairman of the committee, took his fellow realtors today at the weekly luncheon meeting in the Legion Auxiliary headquarters. The affair is likely to be the biggest in point of attendance ever held at the Elk's club.
Of this number 200 or maybe more will be secretaries of C. of C.'s of the Southland, invited here by Secretary Geo. W. Reid.
The conference is under the auspices of the California Real Estate Assn. and was to have been held last May in connection with the fourth annual California Valencia Orange Show. Experts in real estate and topics allied with it will speak.
Berger also reported on the matter of a class in real estate at the U. of C., Southern Branch. He said he had asked Secretary H. H. Nixon of the Bullerton board to let him know how many candidates for the course the board there would furnish, and then he could go ahead and arrange for one class made up of members of both boards.
Fifty-seven letters have been sent to boards throughout the state, asking them how many members intended to take the course.
Secretary J. L. Swarthout read a clipping from The Plain Dealer a newspaper of Jennings County, Ind., containing a letter from one George Andrews, of Los Angeles, former Indianan, in which Andrews paints a doleful picture of conditions in the Southland. Andrews mentions the foot and mouth epidemic of some months ago, the drought and alleged consequent limiting of crops, and advises his old friends not to come to California unless they are well supplied with cash.
“There are hundreds, yes thousands of idle people in and around Los Angeles at this time.”

URGE REVISION OF RUM TREATY
ANCOUVER, D. C., Nov. 28
Revision of treaty between Canada and the United States designed to regulate liquor amuggilag from this country will be requested by Washington as an outcome of the upheaval at San Francisco, involving nearly 100 Vancouver and British Columbia men alleged by Americans to be Pacific Coast rum runners. It is announced here.
Formal representations will be made thru ambassador... channels early in the new year for such sweeping regulations that no further cargo of liquor will be able to leave Vancouver, or any other British Columbia or Atlantic port, ostensibly for South America, but actually for United States cities.
The draft of a new treaty is already being prepared at the American capital, the principal clause placing an insurmountable handicap upon the liquor ring which shipped many millions of dollars worth of booze thru Vancouver alone in 1924. It is proposed by the U.S. state department, acting upon urgent representations of the prohibition enforcement bureau, that vessels leaving Canada shall prove their arrival in the South American parts for which now clear, and shall also show on indoubtable authority that the cargoes they carry are actually put over the side and landed in Mexico or any other place designated in the customs and port papers.
It will be necessary if Canada agrees to the regulations requested, for a ship's captain to obtain documentary proof from a British consul, trade commissioner or other government agent, supporting his claim that he delivered the cargo to the destination stated when he obtained permission to sail from a port in the dominion.
Affidavits so obtained and impossible of forgery or "fixing" will have to be returned to the port of clearance here before the Canadian customs bend is lifted, and the deposit left by the shipper of the cargo returned.

How to Solve Puzzle
The words start in the numbered squares and run either across and down. Only one letter is placed in each white square. If the proper words are found each combination of letters in the white squares will form words. The key to the puzzle—the first word—is given in the drawing. Below are keys to the other words.
PICTURE PUZZLES FOR CHILDREN
Here's something absolutely original in cross word puzzles for the children.
It will appeal to the little ones because the drawing around the puzzle helps them solve it. Other words in the puzzle often carry out the general idea of the drawing.
We plan to give you three of these puzzles a week, the puzzle running one day and a duplicate of it with the letters inserted the following day.
