Kansas City Southern moved prominently to the front with a jump of five points to 32½%; New Haven also attracted considerable attention with its sharp advance to 30½%, a new high since 1922, when the stock sold at 35½%. During this advance of the railroad shares, the oils were being heavily sold at declining prices. Sinclair was singled out for a bearish raid and sold down to 15¼% for a further loss of 1½ points. Standard Oil of California Pan-American and other active independents were thrown on the market on confusion and prices declined. 32½%; New Haven attracted considerable attention with its sharp advance to 30½, a new high since 1922, when the stock sold at 35½. During this advance of the railroad shares, the oils were being heavily sold at declining prices. Sinclair was singled out for a bearish raid and sold down to 15% for a further loss of 1½ points. Standard Oil of California, American and other activity dependents were thrown on the market on confusion and prices declined. Then, with dramatic suddenness the buying of oil stocks started as swiftly as they had retreated earlier in the day. Sinclair recovered from 15½ to 16%; Marland from 38 to 40; Standard Oil of Calif. from 59½ to 62; Pacific Oil frost 53½ to 55½ and gains of a point or more were made in other representative stocks in this group. With the exception of U. S. Steel which duplicated its best previous price of the year, the industrial leaders were not conspicuous today. Castron Pipe dropped seven points at 135 and recovered to around 130 in a small volume of sales; American Can was inactive around 150; Radio added three points to its five point decline of yesterday and sold down to 40; Baldwin and General Electric, were very inactive; American Woolen lost nearly three points. The Van Sweringen railroad stocks were most active today. Nickle plate made a gain of about three points at 117 and Chesapeake and Ohio sold up 3½ points to 91. Stock sales today, 2,604,100 shares $18,016,000. GRAIN CLOSES FIRM CHICAGO, Nov. 20.—The grain market closed up in the late trading today and closed with a stronger undertone, despite lower prices.
