WESTERN AUTO CO.
WILL HOLD SALE
Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, the Western Auto Supply Co. will hold a two weeks' sale, featuring many necessities for the automobile.
This sale will include portions of the entire stock, but the better offerings are made in the immediate essentials such as winter and rainy weather needs. The value of merchandise during a sale is usually determined by comparing the reduced price with that of the cost before the sale. Considering, too, that the regular "Western Auto" selling price is below the average, it is easy to see that the sale will hold many exceptional values.
With each Wear-Well cord sold, a Blue Ribbon tube will be given for an additional dollar, regardless of the size of the tire purchased. The heavy Jumbo tube, of corresponding size will be given with the Western Giant and balloon cord tires for the same consideration.
Rainy weather necessities will be more popular at this time of the year, perhaps, than any other part of the car's equipment and the winter season will be made more enjoyable and safer if an investment is made in the various accessories designed for winter use.
Manager Hunt of the local Western Auto store said that this mid-fall event will save many a dollar for the motorist and the car owner could easily profit by now buying his chassis, windshield wiper, top recover or other rainy day needs at Western Auto.

WAR ON THIEF SYSTEMATIC
(Continued from Page One)
Beaches, fruit-picking districts and large public gathering places have been watched and checked. The moral effect has been of much values, particularly in all cities near to the beaches where the checks had a very depressing effect upon joy-riders. In all cities close to the National highways that were checked up a decrease in thefts was immediately noticeable. The check-up on the highways entering neighbor states and the lessening of thefts while the check-on was convincing evidence that California cars were being stolen and diverted to other states which have no title laws on their books.
One of the chief contributory causes that make Montana a dumping ground for stolen cars from adjoining states is the lack of an engine file at the state capital, is the opinion of the Thief Bureau of the club, which is cooperating with Montana authorities in checking the epidemic of car-stealing and selling in that state.
It is reported that the Northeastern section of the state is especially afflicted as regards automobile thefts.
When the Montana legislature meets in January, a provision for the maintenance of an engine number file will come before that body.
Systems of filing engine numbers are already maintained in California, Oregon and Washington and have done much to check the activities of automobile thieves.

When balloon tires first cut out, there was some difficult steering cars equipped with them as standard equipment. New ball-bearing steering gears designed to meet balloon steering conditions, perfectlyanced the pull and eliminated friction in the working parts.

DODGE SCHOOL IS VERY SUCCESSFUL
The annual Dodge Bros. school of instruction which closed last Saturday in Los Angeles, was one of the most successful thus far held. Will W. Bartlett, foreman for Charley Mann, local distributor, attended from Anaheim.
The school was conducted by T. J. Wade of Detroit, who is touring every state in the Union, holding schools in the two or three principal cities. The school in the metropolis lasted three days.
Every imaginable mechanical trouble that the Dodge might meet with was gone into and the new tools devised the past year were used. Improvements in the car were noted.
The Graham truck was given the same sort of examination as the Dodge car.
The servicing of used cars, which is extraordinarily thorough on the Dodge, was explained.
A noon luncheon at which the California district representative of Dodge Bros. presided, was a feature. The latter was the principal speaker, emphasizing the need of thoroughly servicing used cars before reselling them and thanking dealers for their good work the past year.

Sid McGraw states that sales of Ford cars and trucks in the United States alone for the first nine months of 1924 reached the enormous total of 1,500,905, the greatest domestic retail delivery record in the history of the Ford Motor Co. for a similar period of months. It represents an increase of 11 per cent over the record of 1,353,918 cars and trucks sold during the same months in 1923.
Dealer reports from practically all parts of the country show increases over last year, so that all are sharing in the general prosperity.
The Lincoln division of the Ford Motor Co. set a new sales record during the first nine months of 1924, dealer reports show.
From Jan. 1 to Oct. 1 a total of 5858 Lincoln cars were delivered at retail in the United States, marking an increase of 25 per cent in sales over the same months of last year.

Question: Will you please discuss the operating temperatures
of automobile engine and how
affect the lubricating oil?
Answer: To completely cover
subject would require contable time and space, but a
of the most important features
are discussed here.
Generally speaking, there are
separate temperatures found
automobile engines; First, we
the heat of combustion,
is heat generated by the exction of gasses. This will range
2000 to 3000 degrees Farenalthough never in excess of
the latter. Cylinder walls will
range from 180 to 300 degrees
Fahrenheit; piston skirts from 250
to 400 degrees; piston heads from
250 to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Although this latter temperature
is the extreme, piston heads rarely becoming hotter than 800 degrees; lastly, the temperature of
the sump oil, which will range
from 80 degrees to 225 degrees
Fahrenheit.
It will be seen from these figures that the lubricating oil in
an automobile engine is subjected
to the severest treatment, and it
is this condition that necessitates
the highest type of lubricant.

Driving in the 500-mile international sweepstakes.
After the international race at Indianapolis, McDonogh accompanied Milton to Altoona, and since then has been his teammate in every speed classic of the year. Milton has coached him in driving and has coached him in preparing his car for the speed meets and it is not unlikely that in the opening race on the new Calver City track, young McDonogh will be one of the leading contenders for first honors.
Since winning the great Indianapolis classic in 1923 Milton has suffered a string of hard luck second only to that which camped on the trail of Ralph DePalma for over three years, but with his spectacular performance at Charlotte, Milton has again been declared the speed king of them all and in his wire to A.
