BUILD TOWN FOR "THE SEA HAWK"
Among the big achievements in Frank Lloyd's production of "The Sea Hawk" was Camp Lloyd on the Isthmus at the northeast end of Santa Catalina Island, off the California coast. "The Sea Hawk" is a First National picture which will be shown at the California Theater 4 days starting tomorrow.
Camp Lloyd sprang into being when the early sea scenes for the photoplay were being made. Sixty-five miles from the Hollywood studio, forty miles from the harbor of San Pedro, the nearest source of supply, it consisted of 150 tents, each equipped with an electric light, a bureau and mirror, an iron hospital cot, two chairs and a supply of blankets; a mess hall accommodating 700 men at one time and under the supervision of two former army commissary sergeants and eighten assistants; an assembly hall where nightly orchestral concerts, radio concerts, wrestling matches, boxing bouts and impromptu entertainments were given for the men; a makeup tent, a barber shop, a canteen, a hospital teht, a wardrobe building, a bathhouse, a film vault and an executive office.
Also an ocean pier had to be constructed and at the seaward end of it a three-story Algerian slave house with a high minaret had to be built. Three other Algerian buildings also were constructed for atmosphere.
The four ancient ships, ranging from 105 to 192 feet in length and manned by from 100 to 400 men each, were anchored in the core harbor. Two barges and four motor boats brought supplies

version into a county trunk line.
The government bridge over an arm of Los Alamitos bay at Anaheim Landing is completed, and the road extending over it will be put into shape shortly. This 60-foot steel and concrete span is a distinct improvement to the vicinity.
The road from Garden Grove to the Anaheim boulevard is all graveled, ready for paving.
Meantime work was progressing on several road improvements that the county has launched. These include the highways where preparations have been made or concrete has been poured in the road beds. On Grand-ave for a mile and a half north of Burna Park, culverts have been laid, and when this paving work is completed one of the widest if not the widest highway in the state will be made available. From edge to edge the distance will be eighty three feet.
Progress also was being shown on Cedar-st, extending west from Brea to connect with the state highway at a point between Fullerton and La Habra. Soon to be opened will be the five-mile strip on the Arrow highway, an extension of Seventh-st, Santa Ana, to Westminster-bldd.
County workmen were engaged today in laying curb in preparation for extending to full width the pavement on South Main-st, Santa Ana, from Edingerst south to the Delhi-rd.

"The Turmoll," a study in human life itself, and a spectacular expose of the working of the souls of American men and women, will be seen at the United Theater Sunday and Monday, Hobert Henley's latest production is adapted from the celebrated novel by Booth Tarkington, and is literally the author's story transcribed page for page to the screen. Henley made a great success a year ago with another Tarkington story "The Flirt," but his second Tarkington Transcription is hailed by pre-release critics as a veritable masterpiece.
The story deals with the turmoll in the home of a self-made millionaire arrogant, powerful and stubborn, who with iron hand, bends a rebellious family to his will. An artistic son is forced to the unhappiness of a money mad struggle in business; a daughter-in-law, waspish and fortune-hunting, puts her wits against his drives one man to drink, another to the grave, his daughter into the arms of a scoundrel, and nearly wrecks the entire family on the

An easy mark may be a man who bought German war bonds and now is rich. — Birmingham News.
The powerful story is acted by a cast carefully chosen for the task. Bibbs, the dreamy artistic son of the family, is pictured by George Hackathorne, while Eileen Perey plays Sybil, the daughter-in-law with the soul of a wasp. Pauline Garon plays the flapperish baby daughter of the family, and Emmett Corrigan appears as the old millionaire, Eleanor Boardman plays a role that adds love interest to the picture, and Kitty Bradbury, Victory Bateman, Theodore Von Eltz, Edward Hearn and other well known artists also appear.
The sets are lavish, especially the settings showing the gaudy magnificence of the new-made millionaire's week-old palace. This is contrasted in a striking way with the home of a cultured family which is skillfully used as a foil in the dramatic plot. Several striking climaxes mark the swift movement of the story; the battle of daughter and daughter-in-law over the love of a fortune-hunter who invades the home, and the renunciation scene between Hackathorne and Miss Boardman.
On this splendid program will be Hal Roach's little Rascals Our Gang in their latest comedy, "The Cradle Robbers," a treat for the old as well as the young. You just can't help but laugh at the pranks of these little youngsters.
