SALES OF GRAHAM TRUCKS FAR AHEAD
Graham Brothers' truck sales, according to Charley Mann, local Dodge Brothers dealer, have been increasing steadily in California and reached a new high level during the last month. Considering only larger than one-ton capacity, more Graham Brothers' trucks were sold than any other make.
Business has been brisk on this line and deliveries were for use in many varied kinds of business. While truck sales in California, including all makes, taken together, have decreased as compared to 1923, Graham Brothers' truck sales for 1924, to date, show an increase of more than 35 percent. This is largely due to the fine records of satisfactory performance and low cost for hauling made by these trucks. Graham Brothers' trucks are 1½-ton capacity and are cold and serviced by Dodge Brothers' dealers everywhere.

A Little Talk on Thrift
By S. W. STRAUS
(President American Society of Thrift)
One of the most successful business men of our day recently said: "Early in life, when a poor boy, I formed the habit of jotting down a record of every penny spent. This taught me the value of system and frugality, I soon found myself able to save a little money. As I grew I developed habits of general thrift from the simple beginning, and, with a small amount of capital that available when I reached the age of maturity, I was able to take advantage of opportunities that led to subsequent success."
While it may seem a waste of time to laboriously keep a record of every cent one spends it in fact that many of our successful men hold themselves to this rigid discipline.
Every business concern keeps strict account of every penny received and spent, and a business which transacted its affairs in another manner would be most likely managed. The same principle should hold true in the case of the individual.
Carelessness in small things leads to carelessness in larger afairs and likewise the careful handling of small amounts of money fits one for the greater and larger responsibilities of life.
The value of budget keeping specially valuable to the young for the habit thus formed earlier in life is quite apt to be carried along as a permanent routine.
If you are endeavoring to go ahead in the world and be prepared for the rainy days, then come into all lives, adopt first one...

Miss Phebe T. Sutliff
Women have had a larger part in the present political campaign than ever before in the history of the country. A number have been nominated to distinguished positions and we are looking forward with interest to the result of the elections in November to see how many are elected.
Ohio hopes to have at least one woman representative in the legislative halls at Washington, Miss Phebe T. Sutliff, of Warren, Ohio, having been nominated on the Democratic ticket for the lower house.
Miss Sutliff has largely devoted her life to educational work and has never before held public offices although she is a member of the Trumbull county Democratic committee and also of the central committee of the 19th district.
Miss Sutliff's family were among the earliest settlers of New England and later of the Western Reserve, Ohio. Her father and uncle were lawyers, the latter, the late Milton Sutliff, having once been chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court. They were also active in the anti-slavery movement, the home in which Miss Sutliff was born and where she now lives having been a station on the underground railway.
Miss Sutliff graduated from the Warren high school, was an honor graduate from Vassar from which she hold the Phi Beta Kappa key for her scholarship. She took her A.M. degree at Cornell university and post-graduate work at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and the University of Chicago.
She was professor of history and economics at Rockford college, Rockford, Ill., and later president of the school. She is founder of a night school for foreign born in Warren, organized the Warren branch of the American Association of University Women and was its first president. She is a member of the National Historical Assn., the Academy of Political and Social Science and the Societe Académique o Histoire Internationale.

Miss Eural Owens, of Booneville, Arkansas, aged 13, won first honors in a recent state-wide bread making contest. She represented Arkansas at the tri-state fair at Memphis where a loaf of her bread was one of the features of the woman's building exhibit.
Clara Louise Zinke, of Cincinnati, Ohio, 16 years old, was the winner of the state single title in the recent championship tennis tourney. She triumphed over many older players and will represent Ohio in the national tournament next season.
Nearly 100 lines of work, business, professional and artistic were represented in the third Annual Women's Activities Exhibit recently held at the Hotel Commodore in New York City. Real estate, automobile selling, electrical appliances, stocks and bonds, life-insurance and banking are among the lines of work in which women have made good and which had booths. Photography, engineering, cosmetics, editorial work, a dog and bird shop, silver fox ranch, hotel work, potteries, brasses, dolls and novelties were also lines represented by exhibitors.

FINANCE COMPANY DOING BUSINESS
A brief announcement appearing in these columns a month ago to the effect that there was in process of organization a corporation which would co-operate with merchants, automobile dealers and electric appliance concerns in the discounting of contracts and bills receivable has progressed to the point where business is now being conducted at 119 N. Los Angeles-st.
The Old Colony Finance Co. composed of Anaheim men and managed by Harry P. Dlegker of this city will occupy a peculiar alchee in the business life of the community because it will function as a lender of money where established financial institutions are unable on account of the existing banking laws to render assistance to those of their clients who are entitled to credit.
The department which will be given the closest attention and which will be productive of the greatest benefit to the business interests of Anaheim will be in the handling of auto contracts. Few people have an appreciation of the enormous amount-of money required to conduct an agency but when it is realized that eight out of ten cars sold in the United States are purchased on the monthly payment plan the need of an organization such as the Old Colony Finance Co. is at once apparent.
The phenomenal success of similar institutions not only in California but throughout the country inevitably leads to the condence in budget keeping is valuable to the young habit thus formed early as quilty apt to be carried on all the world and be prefered to the rainy days that find that by the adoption of keeping an accury record of your expenses.
I find that by the adoption of budget system your success will be made doubly good and you will soon be surtied to the difference these practices make in the
of your savings.
Ten pounds or a few dollars here and there do not seem
to much at the time apart, but when you see
of these extravagances figures they assume their
imports and significance, our thrift practices containe a consele, definite system.
Country is being stopped.
