DULLNESS MARKS STOCK MARKET NEW YORK, Sept. 19.—Dullness and irregular price movements prevailed in the stock market today. With the exception of a small number of the specialty stocks, notably the Tobacco Co. shares, the movement which has been under way since Wednesday morning seemed to have been halted, temporarily at least, as professional traders poured their stocks on the market. A sudden wave of selling around the noon period brought an abrupt reaction among the stocks which had been in the lead of the week's recovery and in which therefore a sixteen paper profit had been built up. The American Tobacco stocks, Worthington Pump, G. R. Kinney, Davison Chemical and Colorado Fuel and Iron were the principal lenders in the forward movement and activity in these stocks, with the constant marking up of prices, was used to advantage by the hubs. Canadian Pacific and Great Western Sugar, both of which have benefitted by the sale of large blocks of stock outside of the listed market, were also in good form today. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to batter down the oil stocks in the wake of the continued slashing of crude oil and gasoline prices all over the country. The big eastern distributors, including the Standard Oil Co.'s marked down retail prices to below 20 cents a gallon today as reports of "dirtress" gasoline on the western market and flooding of storage facilities in mid-continent reached the financial district. Standard Oil stocks were irregular and some of the independents which led the advance earlier in the weak retest rather easily, Marland at 34% was down a point from yesterday's high and Phillips at 32, showed a loss of one point from the high of the day. Trading broadened out in the fourth hour and buying of the industrial leaders in good volume resulted in a higher price level throughout the whole district. MINISTER FACES NET OF EVIDENCE MOUNT VERNON, Ill., Sept. 19. Mr. Lawrence M. Hight, 45, Methdon minister of Ina, 12 miles from here, waived preliminary carriage when arraigned here today before Justice of Peace T. Ose, on a charge of first degree murder, in connection with the death of his wife, Anna, 34, deanded an immediate trial and was ordered held without bail for battery by the October grand jury. A network of circumstantial evience which police say tended todict Hight, was being woven here today. And while the investigation of this was being pushed, another robber into the death of Wm. sweetzer, with whom widow the name of the pastor has been linked, was under way. A positive statement that Mrs. Wright died from arsenic poisoning and not from ptonaline, as had been believed, is in the hands of the coroner today. Another report on the Sweetzer case was expected by afternoon from the coroner's chemist, to whom the hummed vital organs of the man were sent yesterday. Pending the second report, the ostrator is in fall here, formally charged with the murder of his life, but is still protesting his innocence. Dr. Wm. D. McNally, who named the vital organs of Mrs. Wright, was decided in his opinion to cause of death. "There were large amounts of arsenic in the liver, kidneys and stomach," his statement reads. "There is doubt in my mind that the woman's death was caused by the ostrator." Coupled with this report today some word from police that a box which contained arsenic had been found in the pastor's home and that employees in the restaurant where he had said he had caught the canned meat which he claimed caused his wife's fatal illness, denied having made such him to him. Further action in the county is expected this afternoon. BILLY WHISKERS BY FRANCES TREGO MONTGOMERY Billy was all ready to make a rush at the panther when suddenly the animal was jerked back and lay sprawling on its back, its feet in the air. This is what had occurred. The men had come up to the yard behind the panther and goats so none of the animals had seen them. The man with the lasso had climbed the fence and thrown it, catching the panther around the neck just as he was about to spring while the other men stood with pistols aimed and ready to fire did the lasso fail to go around. SAN DIEGO WILL WELCOME FLIERS SAN DIEGO, Sept. 19.—Fifty army and navy airplanes from North Island will greet the American round the world flyers at the edge of Imperial Valley 100 miles east of here, and escort them to Rockwell Field. It was announced today. Captain T. T. Craveh, commandant of the naval air station, said he would send 35 planes to greet the globe belters and Mad. S. W. Fitzgerald, commandant of Rockwell Field, said he would augment this number enough to bring the total up to 59 escort planes. Original plans were for a score of army planes to have met the flyers at Tucson, Ariza. Lieut. Smith has wired me to have three motors ready when he arrives here and the motors are ready. The question now is whether or not Lieut. Smith will fly here Sunday or Monday from El Paso. I believe, however, he will rest his men Sunday and fly Monday. In ordering the motors Lieut. Smith did not indicate whether he would change them before going on to Seattle or not. He may ordinance no. Coupled with this report today some word from police that a box which had contained arsenic had been found in the pastor's home and that employee in the restaurant where he had said he had caught the canned meat which he claimed caused his wife's fatal illness, denied having made such tie to him. Further action in the case is expected this afternoon with the chemist's report on the sweeter death. Sweeter died five weeks ago and then hardening of the arteries was given as the cause of death. Some action by the Methologist Episcopal Conference which at Carbondale Tuesday is expected. Rev. Hight has made statement denying guilt in connection with his wife's death to the ministers of the district. "I am not guilty of my wife's death," he declared. "I had nothing to do with it. It is bad enough to lose her, to have my home broken up and my children separated from me. I am not guilty of any wrong-doing."
