DAYS OF DONS
MISSION SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Sept. 18.—The same
road, El Camino Real, the king's
highway, which the native Californians and neophytes traveled
to the mission on festal days will
again mark the way to Mission
San Juan Capistrano on the ocasion
of the historical pageant to
be given here every Saturday and
Sunday in October, according to
Rev. St. John O'Sullivan, resident
pastor here.
Again the mission bells will toll
the angelus at the close of day
and at the mission portal will be
the same manner of bright uniformed guards who patrolled the
entrance in the days of the Spanish control, he said.
Figures familiar to students of
California and mission history will
be presented—Fray Junipero Serra,
president of the Franciscan order;
General Hypolite Bouchard,
the Argentine buccaneer; Abraham Lincoln, who signed the deed
restoring the mission lands and
property to the church; Gaspar de
Portola, Gen. S. W. Kearney, Rev.
Fray Vincente Fuster and others,
Rev. O'Sullivan added.

DIVIDING LINE AT ORANGETHORPE
Orangethorpe-ave as the dividing line between Anhelm and Fullerton was backed by Secretary G.A.Raymer of the Fullerton C.of.C., in a talk at the weekly Rotary club luncheon. Raymer let it be understood that the movement to extend Fullerton's boundary south of Orangethorpe-ave was entirely local in its inspiration.
Dr.Herbert Johnston and C.F.Grin were chairmen of the day.
The latter told some funny stories.
Raymer could not speak for the Fullerton city council, which is obligated to put thru the annexation procedure now afoot, but did speak for his organization. In his opinion Orangethorpe-ave was the logical dividing line.
The two cities are destined to become one of the big communities of So.Calif., Raymer averred, and the secretary advocated the extension of the streets of the two cities for the purpose and establishment of an inter-city park between the two.
One of the members pointed out that it would be a good thing for the city if the newspapers, as he put it, would quit scrapping and work for Anhelm. Another member said there was a bunch of Klansmen at one end of the town and a bunch of anti-Klansmen at the other.
Major Morrison of the Salvation Army spoke in behalf of her organization. She was active on Europe battlefields during the world war and came recently from Java, where she was working in the Salvation Army's behalf.
Many visiting Rotarians were present.
TRIPLE TRAGEDY
MODESTO. Sept. 16.-Three are dead here today following a double slaying and suicide by Emery A.Crosby, 58, rancher, who in a spell of dementia beat his wife, Catherine, 40, and step-daughter, Mary Mannion, 12, to death with a hammer and after walking to a neighbor's house and notifying him of the need, calmly returned to the spot where the bodies lay and shot himself.
AGRICULTURE PAYMENT OVER HALF TAXES
The fact that agriculture pays easily more than half of the tax of Orange-co was made public by day by James Sleeper, county jailer.
In making this estimate the assessed value of sugar mill packing houses and those institutions directly dependent upon agriculture was not considered, the importance of agriculture this county is readily noticed.
"It is difficult to definitely determine how much of our country taxes comes from agriculture alone," stated Mr. Sleeper, "but knowing the valuations of those sections purely agricultural, both my office and that of the county auditor, estimate that the agriculturals may safely be 55 per cent of the whole. Some of the remaining 45 percent is levied on some of those many valuable orchard and farming tracts which lay within the boundaries of the cities, as well as city property, dustries and oil holdings."
TUSTIN MAN WILL JUDGE AT CONTESTS
Will S.Hatch, prominent poet man of Tustin, and chairman of The Seven So.Calif., Poultin A.n., has accepted an invitation to be one of the judges of the Tri-jare co-farm bureau-poultry show at Visalia Saturday. The event will also be the occasion for concluding the contest for the Poultin club of that county, which will farm bureau has been conducted last year. Each of the club members will exhibit their flocks and Hatch will be asked to determine the prize winners, according to the standard of the birds.

"AGRICULTURE READY TO EMERGE FROM RUT OF DEPRESSION," SAYS ECONOMIST
"American agriculture has just turned a corner—the final turn is the right that leads out of the slough of depression onto the high road of prosperity." said Daryl Friday, noted economist, in a recent address. Friday cited a number of historical sequences to prove that prices are to be set right by natural forces after a period of debate and legislative endeavor.
"Agriculture," he said, "has been in a state of depression almost four years. Crops and weather conditions here and abroad have once more produced a phenomenal rise in price of cotton wool and corn. It is a hopeful sign for the future of agriculture that this increase has not come about as the result of any political action, but of more fundamental causes which are likely to continue for some years."
He called attention to the fact that there are now only 15 per cent more persons engaged in agriculture than there were in 1900, "yet they bring forth 40 per cent more product, measured in actual physical units, than were produced in 1900."
Friday assailed as "arrant non-sense" and impression that the American farmer has been going from bad to worse in the last few years, calling attention particularly to the rise in value of farm lands from 1900 to 1910. This ten-year increase, he said, was from $13,000,000,000 in 1900 to more than $28,000,000,000 in 1910.
"Today," he continued, "after the decline of the last four years, it still stands approximately $40,000,000,000.
"Farmers, like other people, bid for land at higher prices because they can sell the product which they grow upon that land at a profit. The American farmer knows this. He does not belong to an improvised peasant class. He is a member of an industry which has done well by him in the past, and which promises him increased progress and well-being for the future."

The robbery occurred in the hallway of the fourth floor of the building.
Police believe the bandits must have had knowledge of the routine of the Pullman Co. and began an investigation of former employees.
The men were described as being very young and well dressed.
There was only one telephone booth in the store and the tall and aggressive person waiting to call became impatient at the uncon- sionably long time taken in the booth by the meek little chap with side whiskers.
"See here!" shouted the tall person, thrusting his head into the booth and addressing the coeupant thereof. "You've had that phone 20 minutes and not said a word!"
"Sir," returned the meek one.
"I am talking to my wife."
