PAGE SIX DEPUTY SHERIFFS KILL 2 BANDITS SACRAMENTO, Sept. 16.—A duel between two deputy sheriffs and two bandits in Plantation Inn early today terminated in the death of both holdup men. Neither of the officers was wounded. The clan bandits were identified as 'Indian' Hunt, a half-breed, and Herman Schlehoff, former carpenter. Their antagonists were Deputy Sheriffs Harry Murphy and Ed Drady. A third bandit, who had been left outside the road house with a car, fled in the machine as the gunfire started, but passed thru a half of bullets from three other deputies who had been stationed in an oil station nearby. He abandoned the car a few miles from the inn, which is about three miles from here. The car was blood soaked indicating its driver had been badly wounded. Deputies had been placed in the road house following tips received by the sheriff's office that the place would be held up. Bandits apparently realised they were trapped as soon as they entered the cafe. They immediately opened fire at the proprietor, who dropped behind the counter. The two deputy sheriffs, armed with shot-guns, commanded the man to throw up their hands. Their order was met with a volley of pistol shots. Both bandits fell with the first fire of the officers but Hart continued shooting as he lay on the floor mortally wounded. He was shot three times. There were no guests in the place at the time of the shooting. A posse is combing the outlying country for the escaped holdup man. Other rocks and rills and rolling hills—That beats fallacious liver pills. HEALTH BOOK IN PUBLIC LIBRARY Anahiem women are interested in "The Fast Way to Health," a book published by Dr. Frank McCoy, the "Orange Juice" doctor of Los Angeles, which was placed in the public library and also in local bookstores and is expected to be in great demand. For those who would mix their proteids and starches and finish their meal with strawberry shortcake, there is writing on the wall, according to Dr. McCoy. He claims that all lilies are the result of improper diet; insufficient physical culture exercise, etc. The book is exceptional in presenting a much discussed subject from an entirely scientific point of view in the language of the layman. It includes a consideration of the different foods, their place in the diet, their relations to each other, their reactions to each other, and the reactions on the body. It includes lists of desirable foods, with the best method of preparation and other lists of less desirable foods. Specific treatment for diseases, in which fasting, followed by a selected diet is the method, are given in detail. Probably the one most valuable excerpt follows in the summary of rules for the combination of foods: "PROTEID RULE"—Any one proteid may be used with one or more cooked and raw non-starchy vegetables, with the addition of one kind of fruit, either raw or cooked, as recommended. "STARCH RULE"—Any one starch may be used with one or more cooked or raw non-starchy vegetables. No fruit should be used with this meal. "NON-STARCHY RULE"—One or more non-starchy vegetables, either raw or cooked, may be used with either one starch or one protold or with any one other article of food, such as milk, toast or fruits.
