UNITED Theater, 306 E. Center TONIGHT BETTY COMPSON in "WHITE SHADOWS" THURSDAY Norman Kerry and Mable Forrest IN "THE SATIN GIRL" A compelling mystery story of a modern female Robin Hood. A picture that you cannot glimpse the climax until the very end. COMEDY AND FUN FROM THE PRESS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY JACK HOXIE BABY PEGGY in "THE BACK TRAIL" in "Hausel and Gretchiel" REAL ESTATE MEN RESERVE HOTEL The entire Hotel Huntington has been reserved for the annual convention of the State Real Estate Ass'n at Rasadena Oct. 8-11, President Harry Sidnam of the Anaheim Reality Board said today. The board will be strongly represented at the gathering. Nothing of special moment occurred at today's board dinner in the city hall, served by the Legion Auxiliary. On Friday, when the Colorado river conference takes place at the Hotel Virginia, Long Beach, the county will have many of its members in attendance. Saturday, at the same place, the directors of the state organization will meet. This meeting, like the one of Friday, will be open to all member realtors. Tomorrow night Associated Realty Board committees, consisting of the officers of each board in the county will meet at Ketterer's cafe, Santa Ana, and discuss the state convention and other matters. It is planned to ALL-STAR CAST IN SPLENDID MYSTERY Sliding panels! Tray doors! Mysterious shadows! That's what will be found in "The Satin Girl," Mabel Forrest's latest production, which will be seen at the United theatre Thursday night. Also, there is romance and thrills galore. Norman Kerry is featured as the handsome hero and no one will blame the fair star for failing in love with him, for he is a Beau Brummel in sartorial matters and is a good deal of an Apollo in looks. These able stars are well supported by an excellent cast with such artists as Marc MacDermott, Clarence Burton, Florence Lawrence and others. The story concerns the daring exploits of a mysterious personage known as "The Satin Girl," who robs the rich but gives to the poor. The whole affair is wrapped in mystery; there are thrills aplenty and narrow escapes galore. It is a splendid entertainment from start to finish. FAIRWAY COURSE Duffy Lewis has dropped from the select 400 class the last week. He now just spins a measly 39 average. Bert Ellison of the Seal has climbed up within a few points of the leader. Duffy will have to dux out his batting eye or the Seal boss will be passing him. Pete Schneider is not very far down the line in third position. There are 48 of the regulars in the coast loop hitting 500 or better. That means that there is a lot of lose hits being made each day. It means, also, that the coast pitchers are having a difficult task each day in taming these mighty batters. The teams used to carry some weak batters for their brilliant fielding but these days a man has to field and hit George Messgar took care of the third basing for the Angels for three or four seasons and the team celebrated every time George got a hit but, man, how he could field. Then there were men carried for their slugging that were poor fielders. These days a man must be able to hit or him name will not long grace the roster of players. Harry Williams, who took the reigns of the Coast League under protest of a part of the flock, has met with great success in his first season as president. The teams are all doing well with the exception of Salt Lake. Beetown always been a weak sister and a while back she looked as if she would pass out. Some of the sportsmen dug down in their jeans and guaranteed expenses for the remainder of the season. If Salt Lake would kick thru with the necessary supporter, President Williams would be sitting pretty, indeed. The stride between Vernon and the Angel managements is unoldering, but is under control for the time being. On Friday, when the Colorado river conference takes place at the Hotel Virginia, Long Beach, the county will have many of its members in attendance. Saturday, at the same place, the directors of the state organization will meet. This meeting, like the one of Friday, will be open to all member realtors. Tomorrow night, Associated Really Board committees, consisting of the officers of each board in the county will meet at Ketter's cafe, Santa Ana, and discuss the state convention and other matters. It is planned to open a county headquarters at Pasadena. The Anaheim board wishes particularly, according to President Sidham, to bring the project of the industrial conference, to be held at the local Elks club Dec. 6, prominently before the state body. VIOLATION OF COMPACT RAISES OBJECTIONS (Continued from Page One) breaking the honorable agreement observed for 25 years. I confidently look to see the good people of Orange-co resent any attempt to impose such an injustice on Riverside co. "Allen for the Assembly and Woodward for supervisor are sure to make a showing that will surprise those who have been assuming the right to make all the selections for office by consultation with themselves only. It will be a good thing to have such a man of outstanding integrity as Perry Woodward to represent the law enforcement sentiment of the district. I am more than pleased to endorse these friends of every moral principle, and who have been known for so long as unflinching supporters of every moral movement. It would be fine to have Kline in the senate to work with Allen in the assembly for a better state, better laws and better enforcement of the laws we have. "After considering carefully all the candidates for congress from this district I have concluded to 'Swing in behind Swing." INGRAHAM MOVES INTO SEMI-FINALS SOUTH SIDE CLUB, CHICAGO. Aug. 13.—A Ingraham of Providence, R. I., advanced to the semifinals in the national junior tennis tourney today by defeating H. P. Bancroft of San Diego in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Neal Sullivan of Philadelphia also advanced to the junior semifinals by tripling Alan Herrington of Los Angeles, 6-8, 6-6 612. GOLFERS INJURED LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.—Dr. J. C. Jones and Dr. F. D. Astello and three caddies were injured here today when the physicians' car skidded and crashed into a supported by an excellent cast with such artists as Marc MacDermott, Clarence Burton, Florence Lawrence and others. The story concerns the daring exploits of a mysterious personage known as "The Satin Girl," who robs the rich but gives to the poor. The whole affair is wrapped in mystery; there are thrills aplenty and narrow escapes galore. It is a splendid entertainment from start to finish. FAIRWAY COURSE OPENS CLUBHOUSE While the clubhouse of the Fairway Country club on Bixby Heights was thrown open to members and guests on Saturday, much work still is to be done both on the building and grounds. The reconstructed Bixby mansion, which is being used, is still minus shower baths, lockers, etc., downstairs, which will be put in as soon as possible, and a new green now is being built, 50 feet in diameter, to replace one which was unsatisfactory, while several bunkers and sand traps are being put in over the nine-hole course. Much shrubbery remains to be planted, also. There is a good gravel drive up to the clubhouse, and the building is already in condition for card parties, dances, etc. The project of doubling the size of the course to 18 holes will not be seriously considered until after Jan. 1, owing to the fact that this is not a good time to sow the 'only obvious joins out' assuages would be an obstacle. ORDINANCE BARS CATTLE DISEASES Designed to prohibit the admission into Orange-co of animals, especially cattle, with contagious diseases, Dist. Atty. A. P. Nelson was today drafting an ordinance which will be presented next or as spon as possible to the county supervisors for passage. Nelson met with a committee from the county farm bureau and discussed the proposed county ordinance. An ordinance similar to those recently adopted in Riverside and Los Angeles-cos will be recommended, Nelson indicated. Baseball Toaay AMERICAN LEAGUE (First game.) Carpentier could stampede a whole ring full of Sikis today and Georgeous is through as a fighter. Vic Alexander, the big colored boy who started fast cuffing out Compton, almost had something new sprung on him down in Mexicali. Vic climbed in the ring to go 20 rounds with Kid Savage. Some one discovered that Savage had prepared for the big yellow boy by loading his gloves with plaster of paris and tin foll. Savage was lined for his breach (if the boxing rules). (Didn't know they had any rules down in Mexicali.) Vic won the decision at the end of the 20 rounds and Savage used the regulation gloves. Tonight Toots Mondt has his chance at the world's wrestling championship crown. Lewis feels sure of his ability to throw the crowboy but there are some slip-"bestween the cup and the lip." In measurements Mondt is a worthy foe for the Strangler. Lewis has most of his power stored up in his crushing arms. Mondt has a very powerful and educated pair of legs as well as arms. If the cowboy can keep away from that crushing headlock, he has a great chance. No one can hope to stand that headlock for long. Toote claims that he has a pet scissors hold that will weaken Eds mighty arms till they are no more crushing than the ordinary arms. Maybe so, maybe no. It will be a real match anyway. Bert Colima got away with a lucky draw decision over Dave Shade at Vernon last night. The Whittier Mexican was not at his best owing to an injured hand. He favored his injury most of the way. Shade should have had the decision as the critics gave him two of the four rounds and an even break in another Colima took one. Dave is having a hard time with the Mexican. He can not seem to speed up enough in this short fight to get to the oliveskinned led. In a long fight Shade would THE PLAIN DEALER, 'ANAHEIM, CALIF. YANKS IN LAST STAND AT HOME NEW YORK, Aug. 13—With their backs to the wall, the Yankees today opened their last home stand of the season, playing a series of games that will keep them busy on their own ballwick until Sept. 7. During this period they will be called on to face contender after contender in the American League race. The Browns, 4 games back of first place, will be the first tribe the Yanks will have to meet, a doubleheader being on the program for today. Manager George Sieler of the Browns has his team playing in top notch form and is expected to try to "southpaw" the Yankee to death in today's struggles. The Yankees have not fared well against port slingers this season. They are practically tied with the leading Tigers, being only a point behind Detroit, wit the Senators a game and a half in the rear. While the Yankees are meeting the Browns, the Tigers will have easier prey in the Athletics, in seventh place, and the Cobblies are expected to make hay while the sun shines. If the Tigers can go thru the east on this trip like they did on the last one, they will go back home with a lead that will be hard to overcome. The Senators also expected to gain ground at the expense of the Indians while the Yankees and Browns are in their death grapple. While the fight is waxing hot in the American League, the Giants also are meeting stern position today. They begin a four game series with the Pirates who are now playing the best ball in the National League. The Giants have a lead of seven games. If the Pirates can win the majority of games from the Giants, New York will have a hard fight to win. The "wild bull's" daily program is two rounds of sparring with Bill Tate, the giant negro, and with Miguel Ferrara, another Argentinan. SHADE WINS FROM COLIMA READILY LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.—Dave Shade, San Francisco welterweight, easily defeated Bert Colima, Whittier middleweight, last night in a slashing bout here. Shade took the second, third and fourth rounds, staggering Colima with hard rights to the jaw. Colima won the first round thru aggressiveness. The judges called the bout a draw. LEWIS VS. MONDT LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.—Ed "Strangler" Lewis, heavyweight wrestling champion, will defend his title here tonight in a match with Joe "Toots" Mondt of Colorado. Tagging All Bases Walter Johnson turned in his Indiana while the Yankees and Brown are in their death grapple. While the fight is waxing hot in the American League, the Giants also are meeting stern opposition today. They begin a four game series with the Pirates who are now playing the best ball in the National League. The Giants have a lead of seven games. If the Pirates can win the majority of games from the Giants, New York will have a hard fight to win. Two years ago the Pirates came to New York with a lead of seven games the same number the Giants now have—and had the pennant practically sewed up. The Giants tore into them, beat them five straight and soon galloped into the lead and another pennant. Fandom is asking—will history repeat? DECLARES RIGHT SHOULD PREVAIL "Blood may be thicker than water, but right should prevail at all times," says Mrs. C. J. Lambilin of Cypress, when she clipped the following notice of the antics of her cousin, the man named. Orville Blanton of Los Angeles has been voted the champion-wife deserter. "The divorce court records show that 20 times within a year he left his wife, Elizabeth. Twent times in the same year she forgave him and took him back." The twenty-first time failed. The wife shook her head and said: "Nothing doing." "About all he did that first year of our married life was to desert me," she testified. "He would stay a few days, maybe a week, then he would come back He would be so sorry and beg so hard for forgiveness that I would take him back." "Nor was that all. The wife testified that during that year her husband supplied but $2 towards the family larder." She was represented by Attorney R. E. Abbott. The divorce was granted. Mrs Lambilin has befriended the wife, a native daughter, and a thoroughly reliable little woman, she says, and when the divorce action was before the court did all she could to assist Mrs. Blanton. The husband is now on probation and overlook the court's order, has left the state. Mrs. Lamblin received word that her cousin is now visiting uncles and cousins in St. Louis and Sullivan, Mo., his old home. His whereabout during the last three month have been causing the courts no little concern. DECLARES WOMAN ATTEMPTED FRAUD When Efbaristo Rosales learned that the money he had been given, the stock market made very little progress toward higher price levels today, tho a number of live stocks were brot to mark in greater volume than they could be readily absorbed, the prices as a consequence were declined downward. Short selling was again dugged in by professional traders with a view to opening up loss orders with which the mkt has been quite liberally applied. Industrial reports coming market today were as favorable as they had been heretofore as foreign cables indicated the likelihood of an agreement on reparations and the putting into effect of the Dawes prize tomorrow. The Iron Age reported on course of the steel trade as in citing a measurable increase from week to week in the output rolled products, and the United States Steel Corporation was ported as operating at three cent greater rate than last week. Balwin and Pullman, after long period of inactivity, joined the rally. Low priced rails like Missouri Pacific and Louis-San Francisco Pd., start the advance in the rails today, the response of the rest of the group was very tardy and it was not until the fourth hour that any like concentrated buying peared in the list. New York Central and Nick Plate repeated their almost daily performance of establishing new high prices for 1924, the form at 110 and the latter at 1165. There were no spectacular results. LEWIS VS. MONDT LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.—Ed "Strangler" Lewis, heavyweight wrestling champion, will defend his title here tonight in a match with Joe "Toots" Mondt of Colorado. Tagging All Bases Walter Johnson turned in his 106th shutout victory when the Senators whitewashed the Indians, 4 to 0. Walter also fanned eight men, bringing his total strike-outs to 3180. The victory sent the Senators to within a game and a half of the leading Tigers. The weather man interfered with the playing of other scheduled games. DECLARES WOMAN ATTEMPTED FRAUD When Ebaristo Rosales learned that the money he had been giving to Louise Pena on the supposition that she was paying it for him on property but was in reality being credited to herself as purchaser, he took the matter to court. It was indicated today through the filing of a complaint in the superior court by Rosales against Julia Schaffer and Louise Pena. The suit asked the court to permit correction of a legal description of property as contained in a contract of sale and to force Julia Schaffer to perform an alleged contract of sale of the land to him and to quit title in his favor. Ebaristo Rosales lives in Fullerton. The plaintiff alleges that he came into a contract of sale made between Julia Schaffer, as seller, to Mrs. Joe Lockner, as buyer, through an assignment calling for the payment of $5000 at a rate of $10 monthly. The property is now worth $1800, according to Rosales. The $10 monthly was given to Louise Pena to be given to Julia Schaffer, he alleged, but July 17 he decided to pay off the entire balance and offered Julia Schaffer the $250 remaining to be paid. At that time his complaint recites that the contract had been repudiated and that his name had been left out for that of Julia Schaffer as seller and The Pena woman as purchaser. Then he hurried to court with the matter, his complaint says. LOS ANGELES PRODUCE LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.—Better 42. Eggs: Extras 27; count 35; pulllets 33. BRITISH TANKER SENDS OUT S.O.S. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 13.—A message from the master of the British tanker Oralwaito, aground off Port San Luis, Calif., to Radio Corporation of America this afternoon declared the danger to the vessel was not increasing. The message said the ship was fast from forward to amidship and had a hole forward. It is resting almost upright at low water. The weather is good. LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.—The British tank steamer Oralwaito, which went on the rocks off Point San Luis, is sending out distress signals today, reporting herself in dire need of help, according to radio officials at San Pedro. According to radio messages picked up at San Pedro, the boat is leasing to pieces on the rocks. The Oralwaito has been repeatedly sending out calls for help and is believed to be in great danger. STEAMER ON ROCKS SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 13.—Altho she has a hole in her forward tank, the British tank steamer Oralwaito, which struck on the rocks 10 miles from Point Buchon, off Point San Luis on the California coast last night; was reported today in no immediate danger. The tug Sea Lion dispatched by her agents, Hind, Rolph & Co., was steaming from St. Pedro to her assistance today. The vessel was en route to Port San Luis from Wellington, New Zealand, when she crashed. She carries a GREAT PROGRAM AT CALIFORNIA Tomorrow's bill at the California promises more than just a vaudeville show. First there are five distinct headline acts, topped by Harry Gribbon, famous Mack Pennett comedy star, who will make personal appearance on the stage at each performance and at the same time will present a comedy skit with the assistance of Miss May Emory, also famous in the film world. This personal appearance marks the first of its kind to be staged in conjunction with "Greater Movie Season." Don't miss this act for it is a very cleverly staged affair. Next we have the pleasure to present Anaheim, one of its own daughters, Ethel Shattuck, of Ethel and Ward Shattuck "In a Flower Shop," a very niffy little sketch just off Keith time. Those of you who are acquainte with big time vaudeville will remember this clever couple and will feel that it is indeed a privilege to see the Shattucks home again. Miss Shattuck is a sister of Mrs. Herman Brandt of this city and the many friends of the Branda will no doubt take advantage of this opportunity of seeing their friends perform as theirs is a limited engagement on this coast. The Autumn Trio come next with a clever bit of follyology entitled "The Nuts That Drop in the Fall." To miss this big laugh would be to miss everything that spells comedy. A clever trio whom the gods forgot. Thema, petite, "Versatile Lady of Quality," offers a splendid bit of entertainment that should more than hit the right spot. Advance noticees of this little lady's work mark it as "A-1" so, that's that. Dalley & Mack in "Skating A La 1925" show more than passing ability on the rollers. Big time stuff, that's it all over.
