Suppose the State of New York should send an expedition to Massachusetts to stall Plymouth Rock and bring it to New York City. Then suppose the city charged everyone who came from Massachusetts a dime to see the rocks. Having made these suppositions it will be easy to understand how Scotchmen feel about their "Stone of Destiny." In 1296 King Edward I of England led an army to Edinburgh and stole the "Stone of Destiny" from Holywood Palace. It was brought to London and ever since has been in Westminster Abbey. Of late years the custom has grown up of charging sixpence to see the stone. Now! 625 years after King Edward I of England invasion, David Kirkwood, a Scottish member of Parliament, has introduced a bill in the House of Commons to remove the "Holy Stone" of Scotland back to its ancient repository at Holyrood. Scotchmen everywhere are clamoring for the passage of the bill. It is probable that the English would have got away with it for a few more centuries if they had not started charging Scotchmen that "raxpence" to gaze upon their beloved stone. Scottish pride might stand for England having custody of the stone, but Scottish thrift never could stand for that affront to a national characteristic. Georgia watermelons, — the very best grown, can be had in this section for the asking. If you're too lazy, or if it's too hot to go after them, just give some boy a nickel, and he will bring all you want right to your door. Farmers will welcome you to their fields if you will carry a load of the melons away with you. This was the situation over this entire district as a result of low market prices for melons in the east. Farmers declared that by the time the freight is paid to the eastern markets they make absolutely no profit. The melon growers were unanimous in the opinion that Georgia will see a great decline in melon crops over the state next year. TROUT PLANTING IS BIG BUSINESS SACRAMENTO, Aug. 9. Twenty-five millions of trout eggs are needed annually to supply the numerous hatcheries of this state with eggs. About ten million eggs are obtained from brood fish kept at the Mt. Shaista Hatchery. Most of these eggs are from introduced trout such as the Loch Leven and the eastern brook. The supply of steelhead eggs is secured in the small coastal streams, the South Eel river furnishing the largest quota. Rainbow eggs are secured in largest quantity from egg-collecting stations located on tributary sterams of the Klamath river, Camp creek, Fall creek, Cottonwood creek and Bogus creek furnishing valuable quotas of fish for spawning. The resultant fry have always proved the very SOUTHWICKS TO ENTER ANAHEM A new store which represents an investment of thousands of dollars is now being made ready. 245 W. DAD UNMOVED AT BABE'S FIRST TOOTH LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13.- Thirteen years ago little Alfred Yeo Pennington had his first tooth. The boy's father, Charles D. Pennington, didn't enthuse. The boy's mother, Nellie Lee Pennington, nursed resentment in her heart for thirteen years. "The man in the street in America," she told a recent conference of the League of Nations Union, "is fed up with Europe. He still likes France, because he is told to do so, but he is getting a little anxious about her. He does not love England, but she is the only country he will respect, because she pays her debts. "Italians and Spaniards he classes as 'Dagoes'; Hungarians as 'wops,' and the Scandinavians as 'square-heads.' These terms sum up the average American's view of Europe."
