QUEEN CONVERTED TO FEMININISM LONDON, Aug. 8—Queen Mary seems to have joined the forward march of modern women. For years the Queen of England has been regarded as an anti-suffragist and an anti-feminist, but now it seems that she has exercised her womanly privilege and changed her mind. "Although women's first responsibility centres in the home, in these days of enlarged opportunity, it does not end there." These words from Mrs. O. H. T. Belmont, Alice Paul, Mrs. Corbett Ashby or Queen Marie of Rumania would cause no sensation, but when they come from the pen of Queen Mary of England they brouse wide interest. The only conclusion is that the Queen has been converted. It is probable that the Duchess of York may be behind it all. The very modern, wide-awake and alert young wife of the Duke of York is said to have brought modernity into Buckingham Palace. She, it is said, has brought a breath of modern woman to the Queen, who is forced to live a life almost uninduced as far as mingling with contemporary woman goes. The Duchess of York, however, entered the royal household fresh from contact with the outside world. Certainly it is a step in advance for the Queen to admit publicly that woman has public duties as well as domestic ones. The suffragists may well run up the banches of victory. BUTTER HORNS 5¢ each DOSTON 'BILLETED' NEXT ON DRAMATICS LIST Anaheim Dramatic club will present Aug. 15, a three-act rollickome comedy entitled "Billleted," a clever English comedy. The play is directed by Griff Barnett, an artist on the speaking stage. The plot weaves around the exploits of two English officers who are "billeted" at the home of Mrs Betty Taradine, a woman who claims to be a widow. Her near relations are shocked over the fact that Betty should board two strange men. Thru a series of perplexing situations, one of the officers is found out to be Peter Taradine, deserted husband of Betty. The story gives Barnett an excellent opportunity in the role of Taradine. Ruth Camp Bandini is excellent; in her role as Betty Taradine. A strong supporting cast includes Helen Harden as Penelope Moon; Ruth White as Miss Laprott; Hannah Horowitz, Rose, the maid; Prudence Cole, Mrs Bruce, the cook; Ed V. Brown... Colonel Preedy; Jack Cole Rev. Piptrott; E. J. Dunham, as Mr. McParland, the band manager. The play is exceptionally fine and will be most entertaining to young and old Anaheim alike. Special vaudeville numbers will be presented between acts and before the show. The gowns will be furnished exclusively by McDonald's. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, Aug. 9, at Heying's and Orange-co. Drug store. Even if the jockey does not lose his leg, racing men told today the breaking of training during the period of recovery will make him too heavy to ride. An X-ray of the injured leg was to be made by Dr. James Russell of Roosevelt hospital, New York. Plain Dealer Classified Ads produce results. Try this medium. Edison is so venerable an inventor that little occurs the electrical world in which cannot discover a contrast with one experiment undertaken by himself at one stage or another his career. Thus, when he visited the General Electric works at Bonnetady a couple of years ago, he saw what had transpired on his development of the electric incandescent lamp; and hoof the Rockies," built by General Electric, Edison's mind hardened back to all own pioneer electric locomotive, crude, toy-like by comparison, but successful in operation, and a source of wondering pleasure to great numbers of Edison admirers. After looking over the modern electric locomotive, Edison's terse comment was: "Immense. They've all got to come to it. The eastern, as well as the western roads will sooner or later all operate by electricity." Try a Classified Ad for results.
