RECORD WEEK IN WELL COMPLETION
By E. J. Munger
A record for well completions made last week at Torrance by the Shell Company of California. On the Kettler property the Shell completed wells 12, 13 and 14 at 3850 feet and got hundred barrel producers. On the March Lease No. 8 at 3860 proved a 375 barrel well. Bluemile 4 came in at 75 barrels and No. 8 a 230 barrel producer at 3860 feet. Bluemile 3 at 3872 proved one of the smallest wells of the felid, 40 barrels.
The banner well of the week at Torrance was put on production by the Superior Oil Company at Torrance No. 41. Drilled to 3811 feet Torrance 41 started at 256 barrels, and with a casing pressure of 780 the well is the livest producer in the field.
With the assistance of the Standard Oil's 200 barrel well at Dominguez 8, a 350 barrel well at Sentinel-Joughin 3, and the Chanslor-Canfield's 840 barrel well at Torrance 62 and a 200-barrel producer at Del Amp 18 the aggregate production of the Torrance-Redondo field totalled 62,400 barrels this past week and get a new record for both upkeep and output.
The best thing that has happened to the unproven area of the Dominguez field especially to the southeast section in the way of encouragement was the recent blow out of the Associated De-Francis No. 1. DeFrancis No. 1 at 3553 struck a gas pocket that caused mud, sand, and water to be blown high out over the crown block. The action of the well gives the southeast section of the field a lot more promise ad hope, in that with all the gas it would appear that the well is not far from big production. For days for the contention of a northwest extension. The well that will soon settle the question of a northwest extension is the Sentinel Oil Co.'s Brown well drilling at 120th and Chestnut-sts. This well is by far the most important wildcat well now drilling in the Los Angeles Baalm today. Some 3500 feet of hole has been made on the Brown well and as fax as can be learned the well has not had todate any very important showing of oil land gas found by the Union Oil Co. In its Gray No. 1 just below the 4000 mark. Before the end of the week some very definite information may be gained that will decide the question.
Many new wells were started in the Rosecrans-Athena district past week. The Shell Co. has gone out on the extreme north-west section of the field and located near the Anderson well drilled by the Union Oil Co. and abandoned some four years ago. The General Petroleum is starting its third well. Welcome No. 1. Geo. F. Getty has made a location for a well on the Gardena Heights Tract. Block 16. E. J. Miley got his Athena No. 1 underway last week and the log shows some 1500 feet of hole.
Out on the southeast extreme front the Sandberg Petroleum's Steel well at 4400 feet has failed to give any evidence as yet of a southeast extension of the Rosecrans field. At 4100 the St. Helens had a slight showing of oil and gas, and strengthened the hope that the sand struck by the Superior Maxwell at 4260 might soon be picked up.
Santa Fe Springs was given a taste of the old gusher days a few days ago when the Tom Donnelly well was plugged back to the Bell sand and given a production try out. At 4103 feet the Donnelly well never did make much of a producer, but at 3925 just 200

BUENA PARK, Aug. 6—(Spl)
Sunday the following people formed a merry picnic party at Orange-co park; Mr. and Mrs.G.L.Menes and son and Mr.and I Mrs.Moe of Buena Park,Mr.and Mrs.G.M.carlson and children of Orange, John Mennes and on Norman, Mr.and Mrs.Gordon Pinkham,Mr.and Mrs.Joe L.Menes and children of Bullerton. The affair was in honor of J.L.Menes' birthday.

The best thing that has happened to the unproven area of the Dominguez field especially to the southeast section in the way of encouragement was the recent blow out of the Associated's De-Francis No. 1. DeFrancis No. 1 at 3553 struck a gas pocket that caused mud, sand, and water to be blown high out over the crown block.
The action of the well gives the southeast section of the field a lot more promise ad hope, in that with all the gas it would appear that the well is not far from big production. For days the well has defied efforts to subdue or cap it.
The Dominguez field got another nice producer with the completion of the Shell Co.'s Reyes No. 7. Drilled to 4207 feet the new producer started off at 2000 barrels and is making 32.4 gravity clean oil.
The Union Oil's next big Dominguez producer will no doubt be Callender No. 6. At 4350 feet this Callender got a most excellent showing of oil and gas. Preparations are underway for the abandonment of the 7319 foot Gardena well the deepest hole ever drilled with rotary tools.
Does the Rosecrans oil field extend northwest of the Potter well or southeast? This is the one question of absorbing interest to 50 or more oil operators, and owners of property aggregating thousands of acres. The recent showing made by the Union's Padelford a well at 3780 feet has made a creditable showing, and the Superior Oil's Maxwell a test hole from which 42 gravity oil has been taken would seem to point to a southeast extension. However the inability of the Union's Rosecrans to shut off water, and the difficulty with which the Union well is saving to get on production forms the foundation
