Miscellaneous Classified Ads PACE OF STOCK MARKET SLOWER NEW YORK, Aug. 1.—The pace of the stock market was much lower today than in the previous pessions of the week, and while the market paused at times to consolidate its position and to absorb profit taking, the general trend of prices was still upward and many active stocks added substantially to their market values. The early trading was influenced chiefly by the favorable cable reports of the tentative conclusions of the allied conference, indicating a breaking of the French deadlock and a better chance of an amicable adjustment of the points under dispute. Steel and industrial stocks almost immediately started to rename their upward movement, rails joined in, and soon the FOREIGN SECURITIES All Issues — All Nations Bought - Sold - Quoted WE OFFER (Subject) 1100 Occianic Oil ... $ .26 20 Gilmore Oil ... As in previous sessions, the market turned full on reactions, indicating that not many who have followed the market in recent weeks are yet ready to relinquish their stocks at current prices. On the other hand, a small volume of buying orders for some of the specialty stocks revealed the limited floating supply of these stocks and prices in many cases gained a point or more between sales. Corn made a notable contribution to commodity price records today when it jumped 5½ cents a bushel in the Chicago market to $1.12 and established a new high for the year. The grain market elsewhere was featureless and cotton was reactionary under revised and more formidable estimates of current production. No new cuts were announced in crude oil and copper was steady at 13¾ cents a pound. The merger railroad shares were not as prominent in the trading today as heretofore, the market being inclined to await specific and more authentic details with regard to the consolidation plans. Meanwhile the weekly report on freight loadings was a bullish factor, making a favorable comparison with last year. Pere Marquette and Nickel Plate sold higher, but there were no spectacular developments such as have featured the market of late. United States Steel came within a small fraction of its previous high for the year as demand for the stock became pressing and sales mounted to large volume. Independent steel stocks also enjoyed a good turnover, with prices about to point higher on the average. Higher prices prevailed in the specialty group. Independent steel stocks also enjoyed a good turnover, with prices about 10 point higher on the average. Higher prices prevailed in the specialty group. General Electric sold up to a new high at 26%, American Waterworks made up the loss sustained at the opening of the market and Congolium on reports that the company would be merged with powerful British floor covering interests, climbed up to 60.
