From Medford we went up the Rogue river and caught a few six and seven-pound steelhead trout and salmon, but they were not biting very good. "Whenever anyone learned we were from So. Calif. they always commented that the boom had broken in the southland, everything had gone to pieces, etc. I always told them that I came from a town of 12,000, where more building was being done right now than in any half dozen towns of the same size in the northwest, that three times as much building was being done in Los Angeles as in Portland or Seattle and that we admitted it did seem a little slow after the dizzy pace we have been hitting but that if they called it dull in So. Calif. what in the world was it in Wash., Ore. and Idaho? As a matter of fact, a visit up there confirms you in the opinion that there is no comparison between So. Calif. and the northwest. There is little new building up there, very few attractive business blocks and public structures as we have them on all sides here."
