MOST MOTORS IN ORE. FROM CALIF.
To a person traveling in Oregon and Washington it seems there are more autos than Calif. License tags than of the home-grown variety, says Walter Ross, who returned recently from a 5890-mile motor trip lasting four weeks. His brother, Lloyd, accompanied him. They visited Lake Tahoe, Twin Falls, motored down the Columbia highway to Portland and Tapeca. They took the boat to Sacramento and returned via the coast highway.
"When we left Engene, Ore., I decided to count the license tags," says Ross. "In 20 minutes we purchased 23 California cars, 16 Oregon and six from all other states."
"The quarantine regulations were tedious. When we went from Calif. into Nevada everything was fumigated, even the tool kit, and the car was sprayed while we had to undress and sit in a blanket for an hour while our clothing was fumigated. No one objected and all were good-natured. However, after driving thru Nevada and Idaho, those with Calif. tags had to submit to another fumigation at the Columbia bridge. We held four hours in a hot and dusty hole while baggage was unloaded, altho the process was very perfunctory. Forty Calif. cars were tied up and every California was sore. Proteints that they had already been thru the process since leaving the Golden State were of no avail.
"We were saved the aggravation at the Oregon line, the process having been abandoned only a few days before we came along.
"It was very hot in the northwest—110 in eastern Oregon, 104 at The Dalles, 98 at Portland, 106 at Medford.
"Fishing was only fair. From Medford we went up the Rogue river and caught a few six and seven-pound steelhead trout and salmon, but they were not biting very good.
"Whenever anyone learned we were from So. Calif. they always commented that the boom had broken in the southland, everything had gone to pieces, etc. I always told them that I came from a town of 12,000, where more building was being done right now than in any half dozen towns of the same size in the northwest, that three times as much building was being done in Los Angeles as in Portland or Seattle and that we admitted it did seem a little slow after the dizzy pace we have been hitting but that if they called it dull in So. Calif. what in the world was it in Wash., Ore. and Idaho? As a matter of fact, a visit up there confirms you in the opinion that there is no comparison between So. Calif. and the northwest. There is little new building up there, very few attractive business blocks and public structures as we have them on all sides here."
They were accompanied back to Anaheim by their cousin, Miss Medora Steele, who will visit here for two months.

ADMIT LA HABRA AND BUENA PARK
Fullerton trustees' last vote to admit La Habra Buena Park to the outfall system, provided other cities the system are willing. The tion was taken following a call from Wayne McCullom in of La Habra and Buena Park siring to buy 6½ per cent of outfall and treating plant. Habra now has a sanitary day of about 3000 people and B Park of about 800. The trivoted to admit them on the basis as Placentia and G Grove were admitted last week.
A petition of five signers the south side was presented testing against proposed work in that section. They in such minority that they voted to overrule the protec passed a resolution ordering work to proceed.
Permission was given G Page to install a service station So. Spadra-rd and Ash-st.
The much-mooted Starbucks question was brot up again petitioners living along the demanded action. They salve seven years was long enough wait. The matter was referen t the city attorney to dete what legal steps could be en and a report is expected this week.
