THURSDAY, JULY 17, 1924 BREA NEWS BREA, July 17. (Spl.)—Mr. D. E. Yost came home Thursday noon, from work, with a small scratch on his wrist, but paid very little attention to it, when he arose Friday morning it was badly swollen and he decided to see a doctor, and it was necessary to go to Johnson clinic as blood poison had set in. He is much better now. A young couple, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sutherland, touring California on their honeymoon trip, graduates from Eureka College. Ill., are stopping at the W. E. Spicer home this week, Mrs. Spicer knew them in Illinois. Carl Friesen from Bakersfield visited his brother C. D. Friesen Sunday in Brea. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Yost and Mrs. D. E. Price enjoyed the Greater American at Anaheim the latter part of the week at the Anaheim high school, put on by Elks. Mrs. W. W. Davis, with Mrs. A. M. McVeigh, and daughter, Debby, enjoyed a good home cooked chicken dinner Sunday with Mrs. F. M. Zeppenfeld 'on Cypress-st, Anaheim. Mr. and Mrs. O. Woods of San Bernardino visited the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Ball on South Madrona-ave Sunday. Orb Taylor left for San Diego Sunday to go to work in the oil fields. H. E. DeFrance left Monday morning to do the stucco work on some houses in Long Beach. Mrs. S. A. Manning is enjoying her grandmother this week in her home on Popular-st., Mrs. Sarah DeFrance. Sunday was a big day at the W. H. Swoap home on S. Walnut-st, Mesdames E. Clark and S. Peck with Ralph Swoap and family from Long Beach and Mrs. Frances Woodroof of Whittier and little son Billy were dinner guests. Mrs. A. J. Everhart, and daughter Anna and Mrs. Harve Turner, were Los Angeles visitors Thursday morning to do the stucco work on some houses in Long Beach. Mrs. S. A. Mrs. Charles Mosley and daughter Ella May were recent Los Angeles visitors. Several ladies from Brea enjoyed a weiner bake at Fullerton park after the Royal Neibhbors' meeting Tuesday, Mesdames Perrine Kinsler, Swoap, Kuenzli and others from Brea were in attendance. Mrs. Ella Quinque and little Jackie Onslow Dempsey of Hollywood spent several days this week in Brea with Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zingleman moved Monday into the J. E. house from Laurel Heights to 333 South Pomona-ave. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moseley and daughters, Florence, Ruth and Ella May, and Mrs. Stella Carroll motored to Seal Beach Monday evening. James Zerbe and Johnnie Reynolds formed a fishing party at Norba Linda lake Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Moore motored to Olive Monday afternoon to visit Mrs. Middy Wagner. Mrs. J. B. Elliott and children of San Diego are visiting the sister, Mrs. Barney Leuzinger on So.Welast-st, Mr. Barney Leuzinger left Sunday for Torrance, where he fit up a booth and will give a display of his electrical goods at the carnival being in progress at that place this week. Mrs. Agness Campbell, daughter, Miss Effle and little Bettie May Hayes are enjoying the week at Catalina Island. Mr. and Mrs. John Guagy were Sunday guests of Mrs. Eva Metcalf in Whittier. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. MacClatchle left Tuesday morning for San Jaun Hot Springs by motor for a couple of weeks in search of health. Miss C. Trenholme recently from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Miss Carolyn Sommons was home over the week end from Downey. Be sure to be present next Friday night at the Echo Banquet held in the Christian church and hear the reports from the C. C.C.conference held in Los Angeles last week. Herbert Smith was an Anaheim business visitor Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. M. Hessle of Anaheim was an afternoon visitor of Mrs. Emma Rust on S. Madrona-ave Monday. Mesdames Ida Guard and her sister-in-law, Addie Crispen and little daughter of Anaheim made a business trip to Los Angeles, Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Meredith, and daughters, Pauline and Eloise motored to Ontario, Tuesday forenoon on business. Mrs. J. N. Thille of Santa Paula is spending the week with Mrs. W. D. Shaffer and family on West Cedar-st. Several Brea falk enjoyed a steak bake up Brea canyon Teusday evening. The party was made up of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Crispen, Mr. and Mrs. Walz and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Horr. R. L. Gheen received a card from his brother G. H. Gheen saying they were in Nebraska over the week end and would be at their home the first of the week, at Nebo, Ill., just three quarters of a mile from Elbo. His friends will be glad to hear they madethe trip so soon. Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Burford, and children motored to Long Beach Sunday to meet some old acquaintances from Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Blanchard. Mr. and Mrs. S. Morrison and brother, I. Jay Morel, and the Misses Sophie Gaffe and Bessie Cohen, both of Los Angeles, enjoyed a bathing party at Balga Beach Sunday afternoon.
