ORIENTALS PASS EVENING WITH BRIDE ELECT.
PLAYING the role of hostess and honoree was the unique pleasure of Miss Alvina Joost, just evening when she and Miss Irene Poet entertained the members of the Doolett club at the Joost home, No. Philadelphia-st.
The hostess issued invitations in the members to come dressed in Chinese or Japanese costumes and there proved to be a wide range of native dress. The rooms were very attractively decorated for the occasion. A serpentine throughout the different rooms followed by the Chinese prayer.
Early in the evening Miss Joost and Poet spread a table cloth on the floor and served rice, tea and rice cakes with fortunes. A photographer was called who made a picture of the group.
The girls begged Miss Joost to show the contents of her hope chest which she readily did, and many beautiful articles were in the led. Miss Joost will become the bride of Alvin Swanson, July 19th at two p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church. The club girls were invited to the wedding. While the hostess was taking the articles out of the sheet she picked up a querely fled package and after taking off the wrapper found a beautiful electric toaster. During the evening one of the girls "plained" the gift, which was from the club.
The new club pins were worn by the girls last evening. They are inscribed with the initials "D.J." When a member drops out of the club she will be asked to turn in the pin. If anyone is absent three successive meetings they will not be classed as men.

Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Dierker, prominent Anahelmers, and son and daughter-in-law of the father, Henry Dierker, were present, as were 45 others.
A sumptuous dinner was served at noon. Before serving a program of patriotic speeches and addresses was offered by Rev. J. Kogler, H. F. Dierker, and George Johnson, the latter being district attorney of San Bernardino co. William Kogler acted as teacmaster and lead in singing, "The Star Spangled Banner."
After dinner the company repaired to the large shady lawn where the afternoon was passed in visiting and music, with ice cream and cake served betimes. At 6 o'clock another big repast was spread during which saxophone and banjo music was contributed.
The evening was devoted to a fireworks program and the day closed as a happy one indeed to the venerable father, and his daughter, Miss Tillel, who gave unsparingly of their efforts in hospitality and to the sons and daughters and their families, who were so graciously entertained.
The house and spacious porches were decorated with flags, bunting and patriotic emblems.

Grandpa Stubbs had decided that it would be all right to let the chums sleep out all night.
"He really is an accommodating old fellow, isn't he," said Billy, "to leave us out all night? It will save him a broken shed door, though he will never know it."
"What time do you suppose it is?" asked Stubby.
"From the height of the moon I should say it must be about half past ten," answered Button.
"That will give us an hour and a half to think up what we are going to talk about at the club tonight. What are you going to tell them, Billy?" said Stubby.
"I really don't know. Guess I will wait for the inspiration of the moment."
"You better think up something extra exciting. Why not tell them about the time you were blown out of the trenches and lost a piece of your tail? Or, better yet, when you broke into the German headquarters and butted the great Hindenburg himself," advised Button.
