DISCUSS STATE REAPPORTMENT (Plan Proposed by A.C.Hall President, California Farm Bureau Federation)
The question of proper nutrition in the native halls of the state is important. Under the present critical system the state may vided into districts and nearer district is controlled by urban population of the state that those go to the California isolature, while voted for by try districts, are really elected and represent the populous ers.
A man may thus become representative in the halls or isolater or congress by the rate of them are elected by 26 per cent of the actual vote as the average total poll is a neighborhood of only 50 percent of the registered voters.
Because of these conditions Farm Bureau has been interested in reapportionment. As you under the present constitution the state of California, abolition of both houses of the formia legislature will, upon portionment, pass to the most populous counties, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Alameda As Los Angeles county has power greater than the other it has not been possible to portion the state for some due to that very fact.
While control at the present time practically with the rural estates, the jealousy between north and south has prevented reapportionment I do think one will be had until constitution is amended.
It been suggested that the condition be amended for the purpose of reducing the opportunity to one class controlling the state isolature.
In other words, simply an endeavor to create condition that will cause thion of the majority to be an envision of the will of a large minority as it is today.

FEAR SHORTAGE OF HAY HERE
"Some serious attention should be given to the hay situation," says A. M. Stanley, secretary of the Orange-co. Farm Bureau, "for it seems that there is a likelihood of this territory being under supplied this coming fall.
"The light crop in the middle and northern part of the state has been the cause of hay buyers entering this section and buying large quantities. As general thing sufficient hay for our needs was produced south of the Tehachapi but the operation of these outside buyers is about to cut us short, making it necessary for hay to be imported later this year, in which case, of course, our farmers would have to pay a double freight."
To corroborate his statement Mr. Stanley drew attention to the fact that one buyer from Ventura-co. had bought 2000 tons of hay in this county recently and other buyers are snapping up the hay as fast as it is offered for sale.
He states that the present price asked for hay in Orange-co., today in wholesale lots ranges from $23 to $27 a ton for the higher class alfalfa, and good barley hay is quoted around $22 and $25. "I am informed that this price is two or three dollars higher than the present market demand not improbable that we will receive these prices if the hay is held until date. However, in one must take into account the expenses of insuring housing, and the loss handling."
"I do not know what done in the matter that local buyers should possible at this time, hand farmers should not to sell unless the position to hold the hay demands themselves, ness of the local situation the fact that this location bought by outside there is a danger of ing oversold making for us to import hay higher price, due to tion charges, later in"

DISCUSS STATE REAPPORTIONMENT
An Proposed by A. C. Hardison

The question of proper recognition of agriculture in the legisture halls of the state is quite
important. Under the present poll system the state may be did into districts and nearly evidistrict is controlled by the
population of the state, so

one percent of the actual voters,
the average total poll is in the

Because of these conditions, the

Concerning Special Legislation
"As railroad men we realize that the railroads must be protected equally against a type of politician who seeks votes at the expense of the public treasury or the railroad investor; following, it is true, the example set by many of our great industries which have demanded and received special privileges at the expense of other classes, railroad labor in the past has frequently had to resort to legislation to protect itself; but it has always done so unwillingly."
Through long years of experience, often bitter enough, we come to know the power of money. Now we are going to make it work for us, not destructively, but in a broad, constructive way in the interest of the nation as well as ourselves."
EXPECT VERDICT IN GREER CASE TODAY
LOS ANGELES, June 19—The case of Horace Greer, chauffeur for Mabel Normand, charged with shooting Courtland S. Dines, Denver millionaire, was ready for the jury today.
A verdict is expected before night.
Greer, who refused to testify in his own defense because, he said, "he would rather go to prison than say anything that might hurt Mabel Normand," watched the ten women and two men of the jury closely while assistant district attorney Frieke closed the final arguments.
According to defense attorneys' arguments the affair was a Roman saturnalia, in which Dines dressed in a thin shirt, posed as a Roman gladiator, and Miss Normand, the little cigarette girl, went around picking up cigarette butts. It was pointed out that the actress had so testified.

present market demands, but it is not improbable that the farmers will receive these prices or better if the hay is held until a later date. However, in polling hay one must take into consideration the expenses of insurance, warehousing, and the loss due to much handling."
"I do not know what can be done in the matter but it seems that local buyers should anticipate their needs and buy as heavily as possible at this time. On the other hand farmers should not be reluctant to sell unless they are in a position to hold the hay for future demands themselves. The seriousness of the local situation lies in the fact that this local hay is being bought by outside buyers and there is a danger of the crop being oversold making it necessary for us to import hay at a much higher price, due to transportation charges, later in the year."
