DAILY GREETING TO OUR READERS
The best things are nearest; breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweet things of life.—Anonymous.
WOMEN'S CLUBS VASTLY INFLUENTIAL
The woman's club has evolved into a tremendous influence for good in this land. The General Federation of Women's Clubs, whose sessions are being held in Los Angeles at this time, represents a membership that is perhaps the greatest and most influential in which women ever have been banded together, except in the churches. Every state, every city and town of importance, in the United States, is represented. Activities of the most diverse nature are comprehended in the endeavors of the hundreds of women's clubs affiliated with the great organization.
These convocations of the General Federation of Women's Clubs are extremely useful. Questions of foremost importance are discussed and plans are laid for influential service in behalf of law, order, morals, better government, better economic and social conditions, betterment of the human race, in general.
California welcomes these earnest women. The work they have done, are doing, and are planning to do, is contemplated favorably and sympathetically here. California knows the value of women's clubs as demonstrated in its community life. They have been and are a tremendous factor in bettering political, social and economic conditions here.
Political partizanship should not be blind and bigoted, but intelligent and broad visioned.

VALUATIONS VAST FOR THIS COUNTRY
Los Angeles county is richer now than it was one year ago. Estimated increase in valuations is in excess of $257,000,000. The grand total valuation of property in this county will reach the enormous figure of $2,250,000,000 by the end of the year according to estimate. A total of 125,000 buildings were constructed within the borders of the county during the last year, and the sale of 84,800 parcels of land was recorded.
This is very substantial progress indeed. It represents a huge outlay for building. It denotes a very healthy advance in intrinsic value of property. It shows that Los Angeles county has a great deal more than climate, its sneering critics to the contrary notwithstanding. Just the increase in the assessed valuations in this county in one year is more than the total assessed valuation of any county in the state except San Francisco.
Los Angeles county is continuing its grand march of progress. It is going forward with steady pace. It is developing phenomenally, but symmetrically and permanently. There will be no recession in development.
"In all the world, no coffee like this!"
"In all the world,
no coffee like this!"
The first savory sip of Hills Bros. Red Can Coffee invariably calls forth some such spontaneous remark. It is wonderful coffee. That's why the coffee-critical West calls it The Recognized Standard.
That taste-teasing aroma is but the promise of a matchless flavor to follow—the flavor that has made "Red Can" the prideful coffee of the West. We lock the flavor in vacuum to preserve its freshness always.
With all its high quality, Hills Bros. Coffee is not high-priced. It is economical to buy—and economical to use. Hills Bros., San Francisco.
