ANAHEIM CAPITAL TO NEW MEXICO Anaheim capital is invading the new San Juan basin field of New Mexico. So is capital as well as experience of Huntington Beach. But that does not mean that Orangeco's oil development will be stinted. William E. Wright of the Bush Drilling Co., rancher near here, will drill three wells east of Galup near Grant's Blue Water and Thorneau, respectively, according to R. E. Leslie, promoter, who was here today conferring with Wright. John Hinkle of Huntington Beach, brother of the Governor of New Mexico, David Compton and the Sandburg Petroleum Co. of Long Beach, Julian and all the big oil companies directly or thru subsidiaries are drilling or preparing to drill there. The new field is located mainly in San Juan, McKinley and Valencia counties and extends over 12,000,000 acres. A pipe line which may reach Los Angeles now is being constructed. The formation is in long folds instead of abrupt folds as in Signal Hill and elsewhere, and wells aren't drilled less than five miles apart, as a rue. There wells farthest separated are 120 miles apart, says Leslie. There are now 23 wells producing. The first oil was found at a depth of 735 feet, 62 gravity with paraffine base, the well producing 2300 barrels. There are eight wells not deeper than 900 feet and none producing less than 1,000 barrels. Turning down to the local field, an official of the Gaddie well south of Cypress today radiated optimism regarding the prospects of the prospective field. He declared his associates were not going to let their leases lie idle once oil was brought in, but would drill several wells. CLARK TAKEN TO FOLSOM PRISON SAN DIEGO, May 23.—E.D. Clark, under sentence of life imprisonment for the murder of the Schick, wealthy realtor, will taken to Folsom prison today. An appeal is still pending. Shiff Byers said, but Clark requested that he be kept no longer in San Diego-co jail. The prison believes he will be less ill at last in Folsom, it was said. Should a re-trial be granted, will be returned from the penitentiary. Clark was convicted solely circumstantial evidence. Schick disappeared and no trace of body was ever found. When rested, Clark and Mrs. Schick were living together ten man and wife and Mrs. Schick subsequently birth to a baby girl, confess that Clark was its father. With four bishops chosen when the Methodist general conference resumed today, balloting was begun on the election of the last or five prelates to be named by the conference. The eighth ballot showed Rev. R. J. Wade of Evanston, leading with 434 votes but 542 were necessary for election. Rev. R. G. Ward of New York was second with 318 votes. The bishops already chosen are Rev. Dr. George A. Miller, head of the Panama mission; Rev. Dr. George Lowe of Omaha, Nebr., secretary of the board of foreign missions; Rev. Dr. George R. A race riot broke out here this morning, caused by a flight between a trio of negroes and Clements Escue, a white man. Escue was badly cut about the head and received several knife wounds on other parts of his body. Automobiles filled with armed white men pursued the three negroes. Emil Escue, brother of Clement, discovered the negroes hiding in a woods and opened fire on them. PREDICT FOSDYKE WILL BE OUSTED GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., May 23.—The ousting of Dr. Fosdyke from the Presbyterian pulpit, he occupies, was predicted today, following the announcement that Dr. Clarence E. Macartney, moderator-elect of the Presbyterian general assembly, had named ultra-fundamentalists to the chairmanships of the important church committees. It became known today that Dr. Macartney recently confided to friends that if elected to the office of moderator, he would make every effort to quash forever the fundamentalist-modernist controversy before the assembly closes next week. The full significance of the new moderator's intimation will be revealed later, it is expected, in reports of the committee on bills and overtures which was to go into session today. Dr. Mark A. Matthews of Seattle, Wash., was named chairman of the committee on church policy another important office. PROTEST MURDER PEKING, May 23.—The American legation today strongly protested to the Chinese government the murder of an American named Dinamore. THREE RICH MEN MAY BE INDICTED LOS ANGELES, May 23.—Charged with purposely starting a series of forest fires near Atascadero last week, which threatened to destroy millions of dollars worth of property, indictments by the federal grand jury are to be asked for three widely known San Luis Obispo residents, officials declared today. Chester Jordan, Supervisor of the Santa Barbara National Forest, secured the evidence upon which the indictments will be sought at the June session. He refuses to divulge the names of the men in the arson plot, until the indictments shall have been returned.
